quiets young children's fears
This is an exceptional book for young children whose family is going through a divorce. It has a nice "Note to Grownups" in the front which explains the age appropriate fears of preschooler, kindergartener ages. It helps quiet the child's main fears about loss of the people most important to the child. Routine and how the grownups handle things around this age group is so important for their needs to be met during such a stressful time. This book could be helpful at such times. I plan to use this book for some relatives, and do use it in my therapy practice. Youngsters I've worked with have asked to read this one again.

Good book for toddlers
I've recently purchased this book to help my three year old son understand why mommy and daddy are not living together anymore. He was only two and a half years old when our divorce happened, but as parents, we've never really explained to him about the divorce since we thought he's too young to comprehend it. However, this book, when I read it to him the first time, has helped him make sense the feelings that he's currently experiencing. He can relate his feelings to this book, and every time I read it to him, he would ask me to read it over and over again. To me this is a very good book for my toddler because, it's not very direct about the divorce issue, and it makes him feel comfortable about the book when I read it to him at bedtime. I would recommend this book to divorced parents who have little ones. This book would surely help the little ones ease the emotions that they're experiencing.

Take It From A Divorce Lawyer
As an attorney and divorce mediator in New York and New Jersey I try to keep up on all of the children's books put out on the topic of divorce - in order to give my clients recommendations. This book is WITHOUT A DOUBT the best book for young children on the topic. It doesn't try to get too into the topic (like Dinosaur's divorce - which is better for kids a bit older) and stresses the two (2) most important themes for children experiencing divorce to learn: (1) some things are changing - but many things are staying the same; (2) you didn't do anything to cause it - and you can't do anything to stop it. This is a GREAT book and a great resource for professionals working in divorce to recommend.

When I Feel Angry
I loved this book. The way the rabbit character looks when sheis angry is just the way I feel sometimes. I think this is a veryhelpful book for when you are feeling upset. It gives good ideas to make you feel better.

A gentle lesson for young readers about anger.
Cornelia Maude Spelman's When I Feel Angry provides an angry little bunny as a character in a simple picture book which tells of circumstances in which a bunny feels anger. The bunny must come to his own conclusions about how to deal with anger in this gentle lesson.

Excellent book that can be read to a preschool class
After an incident of inappropriate touching in my class, I looked depserately for books about our bodies/our rights that would be appropriate to read to a group of 3-5 year olds. While there are many good books out there, too many are only appropriate from parent to child, or instigate TOO many questions. I didn't want to introduce too much information to those children who are still young and innocent, but I wanted a forum to open discussion in our classroom. This book simply describes that your body is your own, and there are touches you like and touches you might not like (like tickling)

Lovely book
A book for very young children on how to avoid sexual abuse. Nicely written, very sweet, well-done illustrations. As a therapist who works with children who have been abused, I strongly recommend this book for children 7 and under.

After Charlotte's Mom Died
After Charlotte's Mom Died is an excellent resource for a child that has lost a parent. The authors note at the start of the book is a short, concise note to adults that are supporting a child who has suffered the loss of a parent. The child in this story lost her mom in an auto accident. The story deals with many of the common feelings that a child will experience after such a loss... saddness, anger, fear. It also addresses the lonliness that a child will experience because other adults in their lives experiencing the same loss are preoccupied with their own grief. Many times are unable to see or deal with the feelings of the child. This book also addresses how a simple statement can be misconstrued by a child. In this instance an aunt tells the child that death is something like sleeping. The child is then afraid to go to sleep. The father seeks counselling for himself and the child to help them deal with their grief. In our society many times there is a fear of counselling. This book protrays counselling in a positive way, a way to work through the feelings. This book is an excellent resource for families, schools etc. We are adding this to our Hospice library as a resource for our community.
