The expressionist works of a famed sitcom writer
Johnny Speight's works for the theatre have long been neglected. This collection is worthwhile if only one more person discovers the reasoning, disciplined, inventive talent behind the creator of Till Death Us Do Part. If There Weren't Any Blacks You'd Have to Invent Them is a superb play that would be much revived if by one of the known absurdist writers. Heartily recommended, if any one is under the illusion that Speight was the kind of right wing bigot his character Alf was, this work will force them to look again.
