a view of countryside in Maple Hill where miracles happen
Imagine living in the countryside where miracles happen! Would you like that, even if you had to leave the city where all your old friends and school are? In the novel, Miracles on Maple Hill, the author, Virginia Sorsen, takes the reader on an adventure to see where miracles happen on Maple Hill. She also introduces you to Marly, Joe and the rest of their friends and family. In addition to the well written plot, the main character and author make the, Miracle on Maple Hill, a four star book because the characters are very believable. Marly and Joe don't really like it at first because he has no friends yet. As for Marly, she meets a girl named Margie who becomes her best friend. At the end, they both see that miracles happen when one of their friends named Mr.Chris, was getting better from being sick, and you as a reader will also feel the emotion. Finishing up the book you'll see how the miracles happen and understand Joe and Marly's feelings. If you have time, make sure you read, Miracle on Maple Hill. It is fun to relax and enjoy the book. When you have free time buy and read Miracle on Maple Hill, you'll see that this is a miracle!

A Wonderful Book
Miracles on Maple Hill is great for kids because it's about kids. Marly is a girl who is experiencing the Miracles on Maple Hill. Every season there's a different miracle, weather it's gathering sap from the maple trees,or watching the flowers bloom. Meeting many different friends, Marly and her brother Joe go on many adventures on Maple Hill. I think that it is a great book for kids to read because it is somthing to look forward to.

Wonderful Book!
I can't say anymore than that! The experiences of a family helping old friends with their maple syrup crop are told from the little girls point of view. The descriptions of the countryside, it's flowers, trees, animals are so vivid and beautiful! Get your flora and fauna guides out for this one! It's a charming story with happy ending. Is there a sequal?

Virginia Sorenson is brilliant

I hated this book in the beginning and now i love it
I am a student from Long Island. My teacher assinged the girls to read Plain Girl and the boys Jip.When i first started I hated this book and could not wait until it was over. Then all of a sudden the book got better.Maybe it was because Esther started school and was turning out to be just like her brother.I don't know. But I do know that this is a great book. I can't wait until they make a sequil or a movie out of this book.

Few Are Chosen
This is a wonderful story of a young man's journey into manhood. The need for his father's love and approval propels Erik on a lifelong mission to fulfill this need. If you are looking for a feel-good read, look no further. I am looking forward to the next installment of young Erik's life, "The Absurdities of War".

A Lot Closer to the Ground
"A Little Lower than the Angels" by Virginia Sorensen, is the story of a group of Mormons at a specific time, 1829 - 1846 and place, Nauvoo, Illinois. It is told through the eyes of a newly converted Mormon woman, Mercy. It chronicles the difficulties of moving to a new place; bearing and raising children; acclimating to a new religion (chosen by her husband) and coping with the radical change the new religion advocates of plural wives. Mercy's story is a fascinating one. Sorensen tells the story of her family with passion even though the reader might wish that her editor had red penciled more freely. The one theme that Sorensen does not address, to this reader's satisfaction, is whether or not the Mormon religion was truly a new idea for a better life or just more of the same wrapped in a different package. For example, Brother Joseph builds a large hotel, supposedly for the good of the Mormon group, but seems to profit personally from its existence. This smacks of corruption of power. The same Brother Joseph lusts after the community's poet, Eliza, and comes up with the idea of plural marriages. He quotes from the Bible and gives the sociologic idea that since there are many sigle women this is the way to care for them. However, the old women do not seem to be the recipients of his largess but the young and attractive ones receive his attention. Then, after agreeing to become his wife, in secret, of course, Eliza is never treated as his wife economically or sexually. The point of plural wives in this case seems lost. In the case of Mercy, who gets very sick after the birth of her last child, the plural marriage provides a housekeeper and sex partner for her husband while she is confined to bed. One wonders if a paid maid might not have served as well for the care of the children and a little abstinence on the part of her husband might have shown him a stronger man and more faithful husband as well. From an historical point of view this is a worthwhile read.
