If you spend time with kids, read this book!
Reading Helping Young Children Flourish was so eye-opening for me! Aletha Solter's understanding of children and childhood made such sense to me, gave words to things I have experienced when spending time with children. I especially love how respectful she is of children and how she helps adults trust in kids and their natural development. I'm a teacher, and recommended this book to the parents of the children in my classroom.

Extremely clarifying
I've been mother for the first time, and I had twins. I found this book very clarifying, because Ms Solter allowed me to see simple things that were just in front of my eyes. Babies are much more natural and insctintive creatures than we think, and I found her statements about their needs and ways of commmunication to be very rationale, simple and logical.
Crying, it's OK!
This book has been a godsend for me. It came to me at a very difficult time in my daughter's first years, and it allowed me to see that, really, sometimes she just needs to cry. It gave me the courage to allow her to cry without trying to stifle the emotions she was expressing. Now, I buy it for anyone I know who is embarking on parenthood
The ONLY parenting book needed
Dr. Solter gives THE answer to most, if not all of behavioral issues parents come across. It makes such perfect sense now why children act the way they do and how to solve any issues that come up. Raising a child who doesn't suppress feelings is an amazing concept. In this day and age with all the programs geared at getting adults to express feelings in a healthy way and stop suppressing with alcohol, drugs, food, spending.....Dr. Solter's books are the answer to PREVENT ever needing such intervention. This book was the start for me and my daughter and I recommend it highly, along with her other books.
