Fire in the Pot!
This is an absolutely fabulous cookbook, even for those with a little milder palate! I would recommend the Cajun gumbo and the Black Bean and Kidney Bean soup for any meal!

EXCELLENT COOKBOOK
This book rocks! I've made over half the recipes in this book with only 1 or 2 disappointments. Everything else has been "very good" to "excellent". Recipes are relatively quick and easy to make (most take < 1 hour), flavorful, healthy, and function well as a one dish meal. Most recipes can also be toned down for those timid of fire without compromising the integrity of the dish. You really can't go wrong with this one, especially if you like a little spice.

It Hurts So Good!
I own several so called spicy cookbooks and this one lives up to it's name and is by far my favorite one. It's chok'ful of delicious one page recipes from around the globe. Great muligitawny and the "Evil Jungle Peanut Chicken" is awesome. For the most part the recipes are easy to prepare and have readily availble ingredients as well as a pretty accurate hotness scale. My wife & I have probably made 15-20 of the recipes already and thats not counting the ones we repeated. You will need a large pan because the recipes make copious amounts of food. I recommend a big wok and a big, big glass of beer to chase the fire down. Oh yeah, you'll also need a towel to wipe the spice induced sweat off your brow. ENJOY!

What an amazing cookbook!
A friend lent this book to my partner and me. We looked through the recipes and couldn't find one we wouldn't make. As cooking afficianados who buy a number of cookbooks a year, this is by far the best resource we've found!

This book is filled with wild & delicious recipes.
What a great book! I've tried about a dozen recipies so far and they are all superb. The Jerk Chicken Recipe on page 67 is so wonderful we have made it several times. My lips felt like they were blown up to 50 PSI but I couldn't stop eating it. The Island Roasted Chicken with Thyme Mustard Sauce is another unforgettable meal. Ground Nut Stew, Black Bean Soup, and Papaya,Mint,Coconut Soup are also memorable. This is a "Must Have" book.

Too good to pass up!
Another fantastic book by author, Jay Solomon. I picked this one up, because I have celiac (gluten intolerance). Rice is one of the grains that I can eat so this book gets used quite frequently. Rice seems like a simple grain, but the diversity of recipes in this book make me want to eat rice every night! Some favorites are Sante Fe Posole Stew, Emily's Pepperoncini Rice Salad, Greek Spinach Pilaf, Champagne, Mushroom, and Spinach Risotto, Nasi Goreng, and Red Hot Lava Stir-Fry. A must have for any who wants or needs an alternative to breads and pastas!

very good!
The book is well written, easy to follow, will be liked by the experts and novices alike. The author uses low-fat alternatives to cream and whole milk,in addition a large variety of veggies and spices. I have picky eaters at home, and now I get them to eat lots of healthy food and love it as well. The parts I found difficult were some ethnic recipes. Not all grocery stores carry those ingredients, and the one we have locally is regarded as well-stocked. Nevertheless, I think this is an excellent addition to my recipe collection.

An excellent cookbook and a must for any vegetarian shelf!
I was compelled to write this review (my first on Amazon) because I wanted to let others know how fundamental this cookbook has become for my kitchen. I bought this book off the shelf at a Borders (sorry Amazon!) when a friend of mine spotted it there-- just what I was looking for and the instructions seemed to be written in a straightforward manner. My first attempt was the GardenFest Gazpacho, which I made one 4th of July weekend. It got great reviews 'round the table. I later tried the Roasted Sweet Corn and Sweet Potator Chowder, to which I can just say "wow." And those were just the summer soups. As I type this, the Moroccan Lentil and Kale Stew is simmering on the stove... Although the author recommends fresh ingredients, I have substituted canned and frozen plenty of times with fine results. Although I haven't tried them, the author does also include breads and other treats to accompany the dishes. I heartily recommend this cookbook to those who can already picture a hot bowl of stew, a mug of cider and a blissful evening to enjoy both.

Articulate witty and well written
Jay Solomon offer up some of the most interseting stories for many excellent recipies. He should consider a sequal.

Better vegan cookbooks available
I recommend this cookbook in my book "Creationist Diet." I do as my book includes a chapter on "The Benefits of a Vegan Diet." But since following a vegan diet can be rather "strange" to many people, those desiring to follow such a diet need ideas on just what to eat and how to prepare it.

However, as I tried using this cookbook more after my book was published, I didn't find it as helpful as I thought it would be. The recipes simply are not that appealing. I've made a few of the beans recipes, but that's about it. I've found other vegan cookbooks to be more helpful, such as "Simply Vegan" and "20 Minutes to Dinner."

So if I ever publish a new edition of my "Creationist Diet" book, I'll probably omit the recommendation for this cookbook and substitute both of these other ones.

Solomon makes eating vegan easy, accessible, enjoyable!
Solomon's recipes do not require expensive, hard to find ingredients usually only found at high-priced whole-foods stores. I was terrified to start cooking vegan because of the inaccessibility of some of the ingredients called for in many veggie/vegan cookbooks. Fear not--98% of the recipes in Solomon's book require only a trip to your local grocery. Ex: One medium onion, one carrot, 2 c. brown rice... I thought, "I can do this!" No miso, no "dew concentrate from the char-char plant, found only in the East Indian highlands". This is Veganism for Dummies--no offense, Jay!

Oh yeah--the recipes are yummy, too. We're carnivores at heart, and we love them.

I found veganism after a religious conversion to Coptic Orthodoxy which requires its faithful to not eat animal products for about 2/3 of the year. I thought I'd starve to death! Whether you're Vegan for health or spiritual reasons, Jay Solomon's book is a MUST HAVE, especially for beginners! I am happy to report that 150 Vegan Favorites is for EVERYONE. Hat's off to Jay Solomon!

SIMPLE RECIPES
Jay Solomon's 150 Vegan favourites is an easy to follow recipe book with recipes that taste amazing!
I would advise to lower the amount of either curry paste ( whew hot!) or the amount of chiles required.... a little too spicy for us. The recipes are flavourful and you do not require "never to be found" ingredients. I am so happy I have this recipe book in my collection as I know I can rely on it for great tasting vegan recipes.

Delicious and easy dishes to make. Solomon did a fine job in preparing this diverse cookbook. I sometimes take my copy to the market and sees what veggies are in season/look best. A must for every vegetarian and smart eater.

Not Lean for these Beans
Very few of these recipes are lean. Many recipes have up to 30 grams of fat. When I fix bean dishes, I want to improve my health not give myself a heart attack. This recipe book has adequate recipes for beans, but the title is very misleading, most every recipe is very fattening and not too good for your heart.

This should be called "Lean Bland Cuisine"
Despite his generous use of herbs and spices, the four recipes I tried all tasted generic and dull.

Spicy and exciting
These recipes are spicy and exciting -- just the thing to prove that vegetarian food is ANYTHING but boring! I love spicy food but I truly hate dishes that are pure heat with no flavor. Not true of these dishes -- Jay's recipes literally sing with flavor. Wonderful fare!
