A passionate book about life, love, and losers.
This is a book about a man and his mission in life: to blunder around and sing a little bit in between shows. Filled with lyrics about things that describe how, I think, we all feel when sitting in a bathtub. This book is humourful, and yet it is a tragically accurate depiction of modern culture and one man caught in the frenzy of it all. This is a book that speaks to the heart, and it screams out "I'm lonely". Read this while your drunk, it's better that way. You'll cry, you'll, um, chuckle, but you'll love "Me at a Glance"

I didn't know my eyes could bleed
This book opened my eyes to a different approach of psychotherapy, but they quickly shut soon afterwords and I fell asleep. Any book that can put you to sleep while riding a roller coaster, impresses me. All kidding aside, I feel that Dr. Katz has struck an above the belt blow for humor. Witty, intelligent, and intensely funny are some of the words I would use to describe my review. "Enough already" as Jonathan would say. The book was great and I plan on reading it again. I will recomend it to my friends, family, coworkers, and even my evil enemies

I loved this book. it is the best book I have ever read Dr. Katz A.K.A Mr. every thing is hilarous. I reccomend this book to anyone whoes anyone

Super guide to American casinos
I first purchased Mr. Bourie's annual book many years ago, andlook forward to each new and expanded edition of his work. He tellsyou practically everything you need to know about casino gaming, then describes the basic offerings of every casino in the country, and then provides coupons that will save you hundreds of dollars when you visit many of the casinos listed. What else could you ask for? Any casino player who doesn't purchase this book every year is missing the boat!

Gambling--Yummy
Like to gamble? Me too! This guide tells you where all the casinos are in the good old USA. There are maps, plus detailed city maps of Las Vegas, Tunica, Biloxi, and others. It has strategy tables for blackjack and coupons for various discounts and freebies. You'll find me at a video poker machine--see you there! Good Luck!

howl at the moon
hop up and down in your Teva sandals. Wade the great streams as they roar over round stones down from ancient peaks... dance the silver dance of the wild rainbow... but find a place in your ultralight backpack for this book. It deserves a place next to that bag of peanuts, your titanium cup; worth its weight in gold dust from the river, split pea soup from the pouch. Ancient shaman tales and woodcut journeys... yambushi of the mind, and lots of white space for taking your own cryptic outerspace trailnotes...

Lots of bum steers and confusion
We tried using this book on a recent trip on Route 66. Not only does he use outdated maps, with old street names, but has he even tried following this book himself? Most of the time, when we tried to follow his directions, we got completely off-course. One memorable time, he got us on an old, run-down alignment that literally had only one lane! Luckily, we had only one on-coming car to pass (which was accomplished by both cars driving on their respective shoulders!) I think he just phones in the "updates!" The only reason he gets even one star is because there is some interesting history in this book. However, I wonder if any of his historical facts are correct, since he gives so much misinformation otherwise!

Enlarged, improved 3rd edition of a standard Route 66 guide
10 years ago, Tom Snyder compiled the first modern guide to driving Route 66. For this third edition, Snyder has thoughtfully separated the driving directions ("Traveler's Guide") from his trove of 66-related anecdotes ("Roadside Companion"), making the book more useful. The guide's most distinctive features are reproductions of period maps from the Automobile Club of Southern California, over which the route of the modern Interstate has been superimposed.

Snyder's book is a fun read and quite helpful for planning a Route 66 drive. But once you're on the road, BY FAR the most useful navigational aid is Bob Moore and Patrick Grauwels' *The Illustrated Guidebook to the Mother Road*, which unlike Snyder's book provides turn-by-turn directions and mileage.

Don't leave home with out it! Really!
I keep mine in my van. I found a lot of sites using the booklet! Vary useful finding alinements and landmarks of the Mother Road. Great reading for roadies. It's one of the better road guide books I've found for cruising Route 66.

Not impressed
I purchased this book and immediately returned it because I felt it was so inadequate. It leaves out all the basic information you actually need from a guidebook, like phone numbers, hours, and prices of just about everything - astonishing but true. E.g., you can't find out from the book where to call to reserve a tour for the Hearst castle, or how much it would cost. The writing's nice, but so what? It's completely useless as a travel guide.

Road Magic!
Once again, Master Storyteller Tom Snyder, author of Route 66 Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion, has written a book that reads like a family history, yet contains enough specifics on California Coastal lodging, food, people and landscapes to get you there and back with terrific memories and coins to spare! In his usual folksy style, Snyder takes us up Pacific Coast Highway, where the golden coast of California is kissed by the sea. This book reads like a warm cup of chocolate yet features insightful vignettes about where to go, what to see, and how to see it all in style. PCH Traveler's Guide is much more than just a travel book. Snyder, who is sensitive to California's natural beauty and fragile ecology, tells readers where to shoot the best photographs, find the best tasting food, meet the most interesting people, and bed down in the sweetest places. Having lived in California for over 30 years, I was astonished to read of places I'd never seen, and the stories behind them. Inspired by PCH Traveler's Guide, my family is planning a road trip this summer to re-experience the coast's beauty and history . READ THIS BOOK if you are coming to California, or simply want to re-discover magic in your own backyard.

A must for those who who love to drive
Tom Snyder's Pacific Coast Highway Traveler's Guide is a must read for any one who loves the Historic Hwy 101.

Charles Kuralt said "Thanks to the new Interstate Transportation system it is now possible to drive from one end of the country to the other without seeing a thing"

Snyder's book takes you on a journey from the Mexican border to the Canadian border on the road that opened the west, before driving became the endless endouring of multiple ribbons of concrete. Snyder's trip and his insights on US 101 is a must have for anyone traveling US 101. His book touches on 100's of small quaint cities and sights along the 101 with recommendations for lodging and restaurants. Many of the places he called out are not necessarily the most prominent or "tourist trap" type places but rather unique places that capture the essence of the road.

There is a great little section in the beginning of the book which talks about how Hwy 101 came into being as well as the confusion and differences in the multiple names the road has. It sure cleared up things for me! Snyder also details and recommends many little trips from 2 to 3 days as well as the whole route. There are great tips on the weather and where to begin your trip depending on the weather and your interest.

Also present in the book is a little testament to the surf and woddie culture as well as an acknowledgment of their lifestyle and stewardrdship of our oceans.

Over all, this book is a tremendous asset for those who love to really drive. Well done and highly recommended

not exactly enlightening
The best biographies (and autobiographies) are those that do more than catalog their subjects' achievements -- they chronicle some inner struggle that makes the story interesting on a human level. Reading this book, you wonder why it was written. There seems to be no personal revelation, nothing below the surface. The author sees everything in black and white, and there doesn't seem to be anything more going on than a chronicling of local legal issues that have little relevance to anyone but a few insiders. Snyder's "interior" struggle seems to be her understanding that other people are bad. I guess she has always been perfect. This may be true, and if so I congratulate her, but it just doesn't make for interesting reading.

A Bell-Ringer
This is such an incredible story, I could not put the book down... how could any one person take on the mob, the druggies, and some of the most vicious murderers ever seen in New York City? And while, much of the time, under death threat to her self and family by these creeps who had been getting away with their murders for years... To label her just a Conservative is ridiculous -- she is also liberal, feminist, family, but above all, AMERICAN. New York City and State, and America, owe her a tremendous debt. However, as I neared the end of her incredible odyssey, I wondered why she did not give a solution for the overall "War on Drugs," obviously a losing proposition. But she does! There are hidden powers in high places that should be doing everything possible to save America from this Drug Hell that has engulfed the nation. Time to wake up, folks...

This is a "must read"
It's too bad that the title "In the Belly of the Beast" was already taken because that would have been an appropriate tag for this page turner. Having spent 25 years as a narcotics agent in New York City, I am humbled by the personal danger encountered by Judge Snyder.Courage and intellect such as hers are very rare commodities in this city. The insight that this book provides into the NYC criminal justice system has been previously kept as a dark secret. She is one of the reasons that one can feel safe walking the streets of Manhattan at midnight and we all owe her a tremendous debt of gratitude. Unfortunately, many New Yorkers forget the grafitti ridden days of the 70's and 80's when the judiciary was rife with "Cut em loose Bruces". Watch a re-run of New Jack City to refresh your recollection!

At least it's got a catchy title. . .
This book is written as a refutation of the teachings of Joseph Campbell, a "New Age philosopher." I was at a disadvantage when reading the book, for until this point I had never heard of Joseph Campbell, so frequently I found myself wondering what the author was talking about.

The book talks a lot about popular culture and the New Age influence upon it. It is definitely not "light reading." There's a lot of deep philosophy there. If you're into that type of thing, I'd recommend it.

Probably the thing about the book I found the MOST fascinating, was it's logical proof for the existence of the Trinity. (You'll have to read the book for yourself!) It's something I'd never thought of, but makes perfect sense, and it's Biblical too!
