Co-operative Economic Theory
Dr J W Smith's magnum opus will one day be heralded as the seminal work debunking Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and "unequal freetrade". Dr Smith painstakingly traces the history of Plunder by Raids to Plunder by Trade and suggests simple and subtle changes in the free trade theory to make it equitable and just, while retaining all the advantages of the competitive instinct. He tells the Developing world to stop competing agaisnt each other for Developed world markets and instead to co-operate with each other to exchange resources equitably to build the infrastructure we so woefully need. Dr Smith's documentation is copious, exhaustive and unrefutable.

It would be the greatest shame of our new Millennium if we do not act on his advice as a matter of urgency. Part of Dr Smith's thesis is that unless the Developed Countries join in the restructuring of the economic system of the planet, the Developing nations unilateral restructuring will cause unnecessary economic distress. One way or the other, the developing nations are not going to be patsies forever and there need not be the violent reactions that we are seeing.

Human beings naturally co-operate in their common interest and when one gets right down to it, if the majority of humans were not co-operating now, by subscribing, albeit unknowingly, to indoctrinated Social control belief systems, the fraud that is perpertrated against us would not be possible.

When I learnt the secret of poverty creation and maintenance I just started to cry at how simply avoidable it could all have been. This is a book we ignore at our peril.

Free World Leaders Secretly Imposing World Violence
"I feel that this scholarly work will be viewed in the future as a milestone of the new Millennium. It is a work that turns the corner from the mode of thinking of one era to the mode of thinking in the next." -- WM. H. Kotke, author of The Final Empire

"This book constitutes an incisive review and analysis of the post-war political economy. J.W. Smith carefully integrates geopolitical, strategic, institutional and human rights issues into the understanding of post-war economic change and transformation." -- Michel Chossudovsky, University of Ottawa, Professor.

Review(s):"With an unusual flair for historical prototypes, Smith strips the Washington Consensus to its underclothes and beyond. A dazzling performance." -- William Krehm Editor, Economic Reform.

Smith's exposure of how conscientious professors and reporters are the unwitting carriers of disinformation, and thus unwittingly misinform their students and audience, provides researchers with an invaluable tool for unearthing truth." -- Ralph McGehee, originator of the database, CIABASE, and author of Deadly Deceits: My 25 Years in the CIA.

"The Introduction through Chapter Three turns the world's power brokers' fundamental philosophy to dust and the rest of the book turns it into powder."-The Author.

Girl saves family by outwitting dragons who love to cook.
This is a wonderful story of a brave girl conquering all obstacles by creating new solutions. She uses both her strength and wits. The illustrationsare lush and rich depicting a tropical pacific rim island. My 7 year old son loves this book and loves dragons. The illustrations are lush like in VERDI. I rate this book in the top 10 books we read last year.

Everything happend to me, it happened before my age of 6
Poems written by a toddler-minded philospher. Everybody should read these poems. As a matter of fact, everybody knows a number of them in Hungary. One can hardly find a person who cannot tell some of them by heart. You learn them in your early life and understand them one by one till you day. Required.

A must-read for anyone interested in urban change.
When I first read Greening the built environment I did not think much of it, I didn't even finish it. Then the other day I picked it up again and I couldn't put it down. It is a very insightful book, that makes a strong case for greening the urban environment, the authors have a long experience in planning and environment and give examples that help you understand the why's and the how's of urban development and the changes it needs to become sustainable. Thank you for a great book.

very good reference book on and by black pastors and laymen
This was one of the few books by blackmen that had good storys that reflect on black culture and done from a spiritual tone. It also reflected the ability of American Baptist to step out and pull something like this together. This is the kind of work that should be done on a yearly bases.

One of the Best books I ever read...
Relevent stories for African-American men. Definitely not fiction.

Stone Quarry: A Bill Smith/Lydia Chin Mystery (Bill Smith/Lydia Chin Mystery)

A fine book by one of the best writers in mystery today
My introduction to the work of S.J. Rozan took the form of a short story. After reading one or two of her novels, I was telling friends on the internet that this writer was a major talent, someone I believed would be a strong voice in mystery.

With the publication of STONE QUARRY, the sixth book in Rozan's Lydia Chin/Bill Smith series, St. Martins Press has proved me right - but then, I knew that about the time that CONCOURSE, won the Shamus Award back in 1995. Rozan has not only developed a continually fascinating series, with fully developed characters, well-described settings (mostly in and around New York City), but she has successfully created a series with two distinct voices. In books one, three and five, Lydia Chin takes the narrative. She is a young, optimistic Chinese-American private eye who tries to balance the needs of her family and her own need to declare her independence and intelligence. The older, far more cynical private eye Bill Smith takes the lead in the other books. STONE QUARRY is, technically a "Bill Smith" book, while Lydia still participates. While Smith seems to fit the mold of he standard white guy p.i., he is anything but typical and is as interesting as his more "exotic" partner.

In this dark mystery, Bill is in upstate New York where he's had a house for years - a place he retreats to. He's in town primarily to assist Eve Colgate, a somewhat reclusive resident who wants him to check out a theft, without reporting that theft to the police. He is as well known as anyone in the area, but still seen as an outsider; even when he helps someone, he's somewhat resented. There is corruption, there's the arrogance of wealth and small-town attitudes for Bill to deal with. He calls Lydia, who is clearly out of her element in this rural setting, but still insistent on helping her friend and some-time partner.

STONE QUARRY continues an excellent series. It tells you more about Smith and Chin, two of the most intelligently drawn private eyes in modern day. Rozan, who won the Anthony for best novel for A COLDER PLACE, writes as effectively about this dark place as she does the bright lights of Chinatown and the upper west side and Brooklyn. The conflicts between Lydia's fairly upbeat attitudes and Bill's world-weariness only serve to highlight the way the two characters care for each other and keep each other balanced, keep each other from going off the deep end in either direction. This is truly one of the best mystery series available today - never a disappointment, cleanly, sharply written with warmth and wit and compassion, but the author never forgets to tell the story.

One of the best in this exceptional series.
S.J. Rozan gets better with every book. I can't think of many writers with a more vivid sense of place: whether it's the kitchen of a dim sum palace in Chinatown, or a roadhouse in upstate New York, the settings of Rozan's novels, like her protagonists, are engaging and original. Bill Smith and Lydia Chin are rarities in the mystery genre: heroes with evolving inner lives, moral conflicts, and intelligent and humorous voices. Stone Quarry is Rozan at her best: it is wonderfully written and impossible to put down.

A gripping story with characters that really come to life.
Stone Quarry is one of S.J. Rozan's best books yet. The feel for the landscape, both natural and social, is particularly strong. The isolated rural county where the novel takes place really comes to life. The story grips you by the neck and propels you forward, and keeps you guessing until the unexpected but convincing end. In its twists and turns, the plot put me in mind of The Big Sleep. The narrator, Bill Smith, is a complicated, private person, and we learn a little more in this book about what makes him tick. Some interesting changes in the relationship between Bill and his partner, Lydia Chin-- Rozan handles this with a skillful, subtle touch. Another strong character is Jimmy Antonelli, a working-class kid in deep trouble who Bill has helped out before. Jimmy reminds me of some guys I've known-- a bundle of bravado and contradictions, caught between wanting to do the right thing, and internal and external pressures that push him in the wrong direction. Rozan herself goes in exactly the right direction with this novel, a story that slowly builds to a fast and furious conclusion.
