Great Fatih: Making God Big
Thinking about making God big through one's own faith is exciting. God has been certainly made big through Wendell Smith and his ministry. What makes reading this book thrilling is the well-balanced combitation of teaching on the power of faith and the living testimony of the author. The author has accomplished his goal not only by setting forth the biblical principles of utilizing faith but also by demostrating how God performed miracles when he followed those principles. None of the other Robinson books are as good as this
This is the only Robinson biography I've read that tells me about the ballplayer and athlete - the others either try to turn him into a saint or a political figure. This book, while not ignoring his role or his image, places that in perspective and sticks with the story of what he actually did, rather than indulging in hagiography. And the revelations about what he actually did are startling.

a fine and balanced review and analysis of Berry's essays
This book is an excellent review of the intellectual traditions that Wendell Berry draws upon in the development of his complex, controversial and elegant social, moral, and political theories. It was particularly useful to me, as a recent and avid reader (devourer) of Berry's essays and as a college student with little knowledge of agrarianism, populism or even the roots of green theory.
Prof. Smith points out the weaknesses in Berry's thought as well, which I think he would agree is the proper way to come to a more robust and implementable set of ideas. However, most of the book is dedicated to extolling and analyzing the beauty, truth, and love in the work of Wendell Berry.
I would greatly recommend this book as an intermediary text - read "What are PEOPLE For" or "The Unsettling of America" first, then read this, then go read the rest of Berry's books. It's well worth your time.
Peace.

Tree crops offer potential solutions for a sustainable ag.
I don't have too much to say about Tree Crops---A Permanent Agriculture wrote by J. Russell Smith and the introduction by Wendell Berry. Its is a summary of tree choices for US lands and there potential roles as a food source for humans and livestock. I was most intriuged by the information on utilizing mulberry trees as an early season feed supply for pigs and chickens. I would recommend the book for any sustainable ag fans who are very willing to think outside the box.
