Motivational and fun to read!
A refreshing read of motivational truths along with easy to follow strategies for lifes tough decisions. I reccommend this book only to those people who whish to do the work it takes to have confidence in the many choices we encounter throughout life!

User friendly with an easy to follow six step formula.
BE DECISIVE is a great fast and friendly read! I completed it in about 3 hours (not counting the assignments). The six step formula is clearly outlined, and makes it very easy to implement. Page 143 has a great organization tool to get out from under all the piles of paper we deal with! I implemented the tool the day I finihed the book, and I already feel more decisive! I highly recommend this book. Be decisive and buy BE DECISIVE!

An inspirational speaker creates an inspirational book
Lou Ann Smith is a speaker who really knows how to get her points across. In "Decisive" she shares six critical points to ponder when making those hard choices. A writer who has impacted before, but really shines in this work.

Grandmother's Adobe Dollhouse

The hardback is preferable
Having lost an older copy of this wonderfully illustrated book, I ordered the paperback, only to be disapointed by the xerox quality of the drawings. This book deserves the hardbound format because the artwork is exceptionally authentic. The poorly copied paperback is not worthy.

Everything you need to know about adobe construction
This little book, intended for children, shows readers of all ages how an abobe home is built, and what all the components are, including a glossary as you go along. Great little book. All children interested in world cultures should read this book.

Beautiful book about SW architecture and culture for any age
An educational book for adults and children about the architectural aspects of Adobe construction and SW culture with correct names, pronunciations and explainations of terms such as latillas, santos, luminairas and nichos. It is a description of a real adobe dollhouse in New Mexico. It is a great educational experience.

Parallel Programming
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Osborne Media (1996)
Authors: Louis Baker, Bradley J. Smith, and Lou Baker
Amazon base price: $55.00
Average review score:

Good book for both programmer and researcher
Usually programmers get lost in parallel computing theory book, and researchers don't know how to teach their theory in reality.
So here is the perfect sample for one stone two birds on this subject. Basically it is book of PVM source code in C with commentary, very detail, very hands-on education.
The book is less than 400pp, souce code takes about 100pp, commentary takes about 100pp, another 200pp for background and theory.
If you have very strong coding experience and want to know some parallel programming, this book definitely is designed for you. Btw, source code is available on web.

A Teen's Game Plan for Life
Published in Paperback by Sorin Books (2003)
Authors: Lou Holtz and Matt Smith
Amazon base price: $9.95

Great Book
I'm a Lou Holtz fan, a lot of people I've talked with say the book is just a recycled version of speeches he's given. Well I've never heard him speak in person, so the stories are new to me. Some of the stories relate to his childhood, marriage, goals and obviously coaching at Notre Dame and South Carolina.

It seems that this book is being marketed towards teenagers (I guess that's where they got the title) but I found it inspirational. I'll hang on to it and give it to my son in another 10 years or so when he's a teen.

I Want it That Way
As a Los Angeles songwriter/producer I came upon Lou's book and purchased it right away. I had heard all about Lou's work putting together the Backstreet Boys & N'Sync, both great acts!

The book does a very good job of covering his humble beginnings and his clever business sense. However, it gives you only a sense of the enormous risk he took in the Pop music world. This is the area where the book disappointed me. OK, he spent 2 Million developing BB, but he could afford it? No problem? Really? I'm certain he had some doubts and discomfort, which he doesn't get in to in any detail. Plus, he must be a brilliant math guy, but you wouldn't know it by the book. Details, I wanted more details.

Also, regarding the TV show "Makin the Band". He doesn't mention the situation where his own TransCon managers offered the band, OTown, a deal that didn't include him. He only says he had some problems with one of the band members and they are now "friends." I think he fluffs over some important problems that we all could learn from. Who better to learn from than him, but he didn't discuss it much... Still, I'm glad he wrote it. It's better than nothing.

Misunderstood Entrepreneur?
While there is no denying Lou Pearlman's business acumen and the hard work that allowed him to succeed as related in this book, this 250 pages is also annoyingly self-serving. He spends a fair amount of time justifing the lawsuits and some of his business practices, and explaining the broken professional/personal relationships with the Backstreet Boys and 'NSync. It all seems to come down to which side of the courtroom you are sitting on. Was he taking advantage of young naive performers or just trying to recoup his investments? The fact that he refers to these singing groups as "brand names" and compares them to Coke and Pepsi does not help his case. Still, can he be blamed for wanting to be very rich?

If you follow these Ten Rules, will you become a billionaire like Lou Pearlman? Not very likely, but with that said, this book is full of interesting insights and stories, and is a fast and entertaining read.

Take the dare to dream!
As the mother of a young actor/singer I was interested in reading Mr. Pearlman's book after seeing him interviewed on The Jenny Jones Show ... where our 11-year-old son Tony was an invited performer on the holiday episode about talented kids. I knew about Lou Pearlman from the "Making The Band" series but mostly from the recent negative publicity. I was leery of him because of the bad publicity but intrigued by his on-air comments about the music business so I became eager to learn about the pros, cons, and history of his personal success. ...

Yes, the book serves as a good guide to potential entrepreneurs and Mr. Pearlman graciously shares his past mistakes and helpful tips to assist those climbing the lower rungs in any business. It was delightful to read about his earliest business dealings and the deep love, confidence and support of his parents who never doubted him or his abilities - at any age. They knew the true secrets of success: nurturing and sharing. He listened and learned. Like good news, he traveled fast on the wings they gave him.

An astute businessman who doesn't like to be misunderstood, he uses the book as spin control by providing his account of being on the defensive side of the legal battlefield. He describes legal land mines and how best to navigate around them that would serve any individual or business who is in a bind. He doesn't use this medium to criticize his accusers which should serve as a lesson to anyone involved in business. He knows that bridges are best left unburned.

At the risk of being considered self-serving, this book is informative and entertaining and it illustrates what a good businessman Mr. Pearlman is. He keeps his finger on the pulse of current trends and he creates innovative ways to make a buck, including from this book! His seemingly genuine "You help me - I'll help you"-type philosophy is very refreshing in today's business world. Those who fault him for those beliefs must not understand what life is really about.

Not content to rest on his laurels, (and if you don't know what they are he'll tell you! - he's either a braggadocio or an educator depending on your views) he keeps moving. In his world, there are no obstacles, only opportunities. The sky's the limit and he's having fun and flying high! Most enlightening was reading about his belief that his employees are an integral part of his success and he wouldn't be much without their help and loyalty. The fact that he intuitively identifies their potential and strengths for mutual gain and he considers them family will never fail him in the long run. Read it and reap!
