A Love Story for All Time
I have read this book several times and have encouraged others to read it. It is a love story for all time. Beautifully portraying Priscilla and Aquila and their time spent together in support of Paul. Today's modern woman might at first bristle at the thought of a woman eating separate from the man and some of the other customs decribed from the time. However, when the reader takes the deeper look and puts the story in perspective of the New Testament time and culture in which it is written, the incredible love story woven between these two will permeate your own relationships and enlarge your heart.

Beautifully Written Biblical Novel
"Priscilla and Aquila" is an amazing book full of romance, history, adventure, and a correct portrayal of two Biblical characters that you only see a quick glimpse of in Scripture. Lois T. Henderson did wonders with this book, making the young couple become real people who went through many trials and tribulations beyond their control. Set in the days of the Apostle Paul's 2nd missionary journey, the author gracefully weaves history and Biblical truth into an intriguing novel. The book begins in the city of Rome, then Corinth, and finally Ephesus, where Priscilla and Aquila glean from Paul's teaching. The three missionaries travel together, work together, and share the common bond of being Jehovites and Followers of the "Way". While reading the book you see a completely different perspective on Paul, his life and ministry for Jesus Christ. It portrays not only Paul's fervor in his ministry but also Priscilla's love for learning and teaching. This book gives so much insight into God's Word and provides several special examples of those who lived to honor God and devoted their very beings to serve Him by stepping out on the limb of strong faith. I definitely recommend this book to those of you who really want to dig deeper into Scripture, who want to experience a book that not only provides incomparable entertainment, but also enlightens an amazing passage of God's Word with two very special, unknown characters.

Death and Grief, Healing through Group Support
As a chaplain, I find that this book is the best aid I've found in which to facilitate small grief support groups that foster closeness, and the sharing of experiences and insights without judgment. It is Christ-centered, biblically-based, and brings the use of scripture into application for one's life now.

I suggest that anyone facilitating with this book make sure every participant has her/his own copy. The price makes that very easy to do. This is not "just another support group" guide. The outcomes in healing and friendship make this a very worthwhile experience.

Excellent Gift for Holiday Grief
The format of this book is "just right" for grievers. Short sections allow the reader to read as little or as much as they can handle at one sitting. This is an excellent gift for the seasons of Fall and Winter when society inundates us with holiday celebrations and togetherness. Since September 11, 2001, this book ought to become a best-seller. I've given out at least a dozen copies to family and friends.

Expert, "user friendly" advice and counsel
Finding Your Way To Say Goodbye: Comfort For The Dying And Those Who Care For Them by Harold Ivan Smith (bereavement adviser, hospice expert, pastoral counselor, and Adjunct Professor in the doctoral program at Northern Baptist Seminary) offers experienced guidance, emotional support, and "real world" encouragement for friends, family members, grief counselors, medical/hospice practitioners, chaplains and ministers in helping ordinary people cope with the terminal illness and/or death of a loved one -- or their own pending death. Each brief section includes a spiritual reflection as invaluable and sensitive guidance is offered covering such issues as: releasing control; dealing with privacy; crying; partnering with physicians; embracing God; expressing anger; forgiving; reviewing your life; making a valid will; making visitors comfortable; telling stories; and composing goodbyes. Highly recommended reading for anyone facing life's end, or who is losing a loved one, or who has lost a companion, Finding Your Way To Say Goodbye is a powerful compendium of expert, "user friendly" advice and counsel that should be a part of every hospice, hospital, seminary, ministerial church, grief counselor, or community library collection reference collection.

This Author Has Gone Through "Friendgrief" Himself
It is quite obvious to me that author Harold Ivan Smith has grieved over the loss of friends himself. "Grieving the Death of a Friend" is not just a result of Smith's role as grief counselor, researcher, or author. He willing shares with the reader his personal grief, not just over one, but over several friends who have died.

Three great strengths of Smith's book are his conversational writing style, his use of quotations from other sources, and the use of his own prose to illustrate a point. Perhaps the greatest strength of the book, however, is the structure or basic outline Smith uses in his writing: Key chapters include: The Passing, The Burying, The Mourning, The Remembering, and The Reconciling.

"Grieving the Death of a Friend" was primarily written with christian readers in mind, although elements of the jewish tradition are mentioned.

A central theme seems to jump out at the reader in Smith's book: his belief in his own eventual reunion with friends he has lost. Smith does this without any apology whatsoever.

I very much recommend this book to those who have lost friends to death. You have every right to grieve, and "Grieving the Death of a Friend" will help you through the grieving process, even if you are revisiting a loss that occurred many years ago.

A Powerful Little Book on Friendgrief
If someone every told you that funerals were mainly for family members and not friends, this is the book for you. The clergy often fail to recognize the importance of a grief among friends of the deceased. In this small but powerfully written book, Harold Ivan Smith addresses head on the issues surrounding friendgrief in our society.

Although the book appears to have been primarily written with christians in mind, readers from other faiths will find "When Your Friend Dies" helpful when coping with their own grief. Examples from Smith's own life, from the bible, and from American history all make the reality of friendgrief more understandable.

This book is very readable. It would be the perfect gift for someone who has just lost a friend or who is only now revisiting a loss that occurred years ago. "When Your Friend Dies" would also be a valuable addition to every church library.

You and Your Parents : Strategies for Building an Adult Rela
This book was so helpfull in validating what I saw as relational issues between my feiance' and his parrents. The book gives people real examples of things that parrents do to maintain a controling/parental relationship using guilt, manipulation and your fear of thier death to get what they want. The chapters are organized and easy to read. There is an additional bonus of scripure used to substantiate that this problem has been going on forever. The book is also well researched.

Good book, but not really what I was looking for...
I am 27 years old and my father passed away in March at the age of 52. He died very unexpectedly. I really enjoyed the style of this book, but the personal stories seemed a little out of date for a younger person and also for a daughter. I would suggest this for a male in his middle life, whose father died as an older man. That seems to be the main focus of this book, as that was the author's experience.

A must read for anyone who lost their father.
This book helped me in the most difficult time of my life. When my father passed away I was looking for a lot of answers to many questions and this book helped me in that regard. I have bought this book five times because I keep giving it out when someone close to me loses their father. Everyone seems to get a lot out of it. For those who have just lost their father my heart goes out to you because you now know the feelings that come with such a loss and I hope reading this book helps. God Bless

Finding Peace
I lost my father very suddenly two months ago. For a seemingly healthy man to go like that, I was devastated. As a nurse it was even harder to accept than it was as a daughter. My husband brought this book to me about a week after his death, along with another equally helpful book. For some reason I found myself coming back to this one to read over and over. I sent copies to both of my siblings. To say that this book brought me peace would be the best way to describe my feeling whenever I started to read it. Thank you for putting my feelings into words to help me cope as well as validate the emotional rollercoaster that I am still riding.

Superficial!
Shallow. Seems to be a rehash and compilation of other grief books and materials. Many, many other books much better.

Short But Deep!
At the time of loss and intense grieving, one usually doesn't have the time or concentration for a long, detailed book on how to live with the experience. The ABC's of Healthy Grieving provides a quick dose of reassurance and instant strategies for dealing with the pain. While easy to read cover to cover, it's the kind of book that you can open up to any page and receive the comfort and information you need. It shows a sensitivity to our differences yet is written in a way that let's us know we are not the only one feeling this way. I highly recommend this book for anyone dealing with loss, not just the loss of a loved one through death but the loss of a job, a relationship, or even a comfort zone.
