Bobby Bridger, American Historian, author, entertainer
Bridger, decendent of the reknown Mountain man, Jim Bridger, has written an outstanding book on two of history's most colorful and enduring icons of the American west and the dynamic process that each dealt with during the late 19th century America. Bridger is one the best entertainers in American today and this book only shows a small example of his profound abilities. Years of research and documentation of historical events pays tribute to truth, justice, and injustices, of the American West. This book should be a standard fare for all collegiate history classes and for the general public at large. History is always multi-sided and Bridger illustrates that to perfection. This is a must read. It will impress both scholars and the general public. BRAVO MR. BRIDGER! We look forward to the next! Sing on Great Spirit!

The history behind the music
For years, Bobby Bridger has been entertaining audiences musically with his Ballad of the West. One of the hour sets, Pahaska, tells the story of Buffalo Bill in what Bridger describes as Homeric ballads. Now, Bridger puts aside the guitar and period garb to show his serious academic side. "Buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull: Inventing the Wild West" is the history behind his music. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the old west and is an intriguing look into how the popular vision of it was created.

The history behind the art
For years, Bobby Bridger has been presenting the story of Buffalo Bill in a one-hour musical act that tells the story of Bill Cody in a series of enthralling songs. Now, with this historical tome, Bridger has completed the circle. This is the history behind Bobby Bridger's art. Bridger puts down the guitar and period garb used in his musical drama to show readers the serious academic side of his personality. If you want some intriguing inquiry and suggestion about how the modern vision of the romantic west was created, this book is a must read.

Final tale in this great, but gut-wretching saga.
Rising Eagle and Buffalo Dreamer knew their visions of the future regarding their tribe were destined to come true no matter how disturbing they were. There would be no stopping the migration of the white settlers into their lands, and they both knew something had to be done and soon. As a Lakota holy man, Rising Eagle had been told to take Buffalo Dreamer as his wife because she was the Chosen One that he had dreamt about. Together, they had seen over thirty years of their visions come true one by one. They had raised their children to be strong and true. Even now, their oldest, Brave Horse, rode with his best friend Crazy Horse to keep the Lakota lands peaceful and free of the white settlers who were constantly coming onto their lands looking for gold.Mystic Warriors is the final chapter of the saga of Rising Eagle and Buffalo Dreamer. Ms. Bittner weaves a tale around historical fact that explains the battle the Lakota Nation went though to preserve their sacred tribal lands better than any history book ever did. She brings out, in story form, the treachery and hatefulness that was practiced against the Lakota while, at the same time, preserving the beauty and dignity of the tribal rituals and beliefs. An excellent saga from start to finish!

This author makes history come alive through her fiction!
***** This is the best Historical Romance trilogy I have read in my life! Stop everything and read this book. It makes perfect sense if you have not read the first two (Mystic Dreamers and Mystic Vision); however, if read in order you will understand even more!

The author's main characters in this book are the same as the previous. They are Buffalo Dreamer, a Lakota holy woman, and Rising Eagle, her husband. Their children are now grown. Rising Eagle still did not know he had a son in the white world, from a previous captive, that was raised by Florence, whose Lakota name was Fall Leaf Woman. That son was William, a "blue coat" for the Whites.

Buffalo Dreamer had been told long ago that as long as the Lakota had the skin of the sacred white buffalo, all would be well. But white trappers stole it from her. Until it made its way back to her, all who owned it would have bad luck!

The author followed history as she wrote too! And as in real life, many battles are shown. I saw several characters from the previous books slain in battle or massacred during Army raids.

This book makes the reader see and feel all the love, hope, and pain that the brave people did in the past. Rosanne Bittner makes history come alive through her fiction! I cannot recommend this highly enough! *****

A triumphant finale to this exciting historocal series
In 1855 in a remote part of the Lakota Nation, four white buffalo hunters see the skin of a white buffalo for the first time near a single Indian teepee. Though fearful, the quartet decides to steal the pelt. Causing a diversion, they filch the hide.

Responsible for protecting the hide, Buffalo Dreamer and Rising Eagle are stunned at the loss of one of the People's most sacred talismans. They know that as long as the Lakota possessed the white buffalo, fortune would be their companion. Now the tribe faces hard times as the whites led by their cavalry seem greater than the sands and no treaty is sacred. As the people starve, MYSTIC WARRIORS try to regain what was lost in land and more significantly the white buffalo even though they face impossible odds.

MYSTIC WARRIORS, the third tale in Rosanne Bittner's "Mystic Dreams" series, is a tremendous ending to an incredible historical fiction trilogy. The story line is exciting, poignant, and dramatic as the audience sees the intrusion of whites on the Lakota mostly through the eyes of the Indians. The cast including real persona like Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. The fictionalized characters seem genuine as well which adds to the feel of observing a great people's struggle to survive. Ms. Bittner shows she is one of the genre's best as her audience will seek the previous two novels (MYSTIC DREAMERS and MYSTIC VISIONS).

Changed my outlook on life
This is a wonderful little book. All quotations are printed in meditation format, and some are no longer than a few brief paragraphs. Others are as long as a page. They all rejuvenate my mind, like sitting next to a crystal stream in the forest. The font, spacing, and layout of the book are exquisite.

This book has meant so much to me for almost a decade. I still remember the time I found this book, and my initial reaction to the quotes within; imagine, a time when there were no high-rises on the American landscape, indeed, a time before it was called "America." A world before pollution and overpopulation were concerns. This afforded a connection with the world and a spiritual experience that none of us will ever truly know. This world is now gone, and if not for books like this its memory would not be preserved. This book helped make me more aware of Indian/Native American thought.

When the commotion of the world around you is overwhelming you, this book makes for a great escape. Especially insightful is the quote that reads, "We do not want churches because they will teach us to argue about God."

This book is a gem.

Rock on!
This book is fantastic! If you are considering purchasing it then do not hesitate. It is full of things that made me think. It is very educational and practical. I love it! It is helpful because it has such intellegent information in it. There are different passages in it from different Native Americans. There are several chapters, and background information about the Native Americans that were quoted in the book. I think it is an awesome book, and it had a great impact on me after reading it.

Early Native Americans had such pure thoughts about life...
This compilation of Native American sayings is appropriately called wisdom. Full of the logic and simple things that they lived and strived for. And how they were trying to understand the newcomers to their land...they could not believe that there were others in the world that were so violent, immoral, dishonest and treacherous...after reading what they have to say, it is not hard to see where their bitterness comes from. Some very well chosen statements from wise Native Americans.

Passage To Little Bighorn will knock your socks off!
I love this book! It was very interesting and I couldn't put it down.It is about a boy named Dakota and he is half Lakota and half Irish. He is walking home from visiting the Little Bighorn battle site and gets thrown back into time. He meets the great ledgend, Sitting Bull and all of his family! Dakota is confued about his being half Lakota and half Irish and feels angry that he is mixed. He is captured by two Lakota boys and is shot with their arrow! They capture him and take him back to their camp! He trys to get aways many times but is always captured! The Lakota are very interested in him because he is not all Lakota! He proves he is good at riding a horse by the great pony race! He also participates in the great Sundance ritural and steals Crow enemy horses! He is getting to know his people and their languageand forgets to try to leave!I liked the childs eye view of life! And how he accomplishes tasks that make him grow to br a very stong and mature young man! The end is the best part but you will have to read it to find out!!!!!

The book illuminates family and belonging as well as history
In short, I loved this book. The central character is a teenager who is easy to relate to. He is caught between two cultures and his own internal conflicts as a young boy becoming a man. This might not seem like a unique theme but the atmosphere of the book combined with the historical value as we relive Little Bighorn is invaluable. I think we are always learning about how we see family and how we fit into that picture and the wisdom in this book is beautiful.

What A Man!
This is a sturdy hardcover book 32 pages in length. Not only is this book well illustrated, accurate, and most informative but it teaches lessons that any of us could afford to learn (or re-learn!). Author Peter Murray gently tells the life story and adventures of "Slow" in a manner that DOES NOT turn young readers off to History. His choice of words entices his audience, young or old, to turn "just one more" page. As a homeschooling Mother of six I especially appreciate the review questions & answers, the helpful study guide, and the time line. I have already incorporated this book, and the rest of the series, into our schooling regimae.

The perfect gift for Father's Day and any day!
This is a gift from the heart for both the giver and the receiver. Every father or father-to-be should take the time to enter "his" story in this journal written just for fathers by Linda Kranz. As in her four previous journals, Linda provides "thought-starters" that lead the writer through the journaling process. This journal is divided into two sections, the first and larger, encourages fathers to share memories about their lives such as their first job, learning to drive, family/holiday traditions, and other facets of their growing up. The second focuses on the father's experiences with his children and their time together. A copy of "A Father's Journal" should be put in the hands of every new father and all fathers of growing and grown children. This is a true record of a father's family history and should be shared and passed down through the family over and over again.

Almost fabulous
A complete, well-researched, well-rounded but dry portrayal of this historic figure and time period. Marrin succeeds in conveying that a Lakota's way of viewing the world and his place in it differed from the white man's, and thus our own. Sitting Bull is portrayed as a great leader and warrior from the viewpoint of his people, but we are led to see how his actions were understood and portrayed differently by contemporary journalists and historians. Not as moving as Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, but evokes the same sense of remorseful wonder at the needless pain, suffering and loss of life imposed on Native Americans by the United States' "Manifest Destiny" policy and those who carried it out.

A Heartwarming Biography
I thought that this book was a very good book. You could read this book and never put it down. This was a great book for an assignment or just for fun. They tell a lot about his biggest battle " The Little-Bighorn". If you like really good books you should read this.

Thorough
This is a fine history book for Young Adults, in the tradition of Russell Freedman's prizewinning photobiographies. Carefully researched and footnoted, the book also includes a list of further readings and an index. The body of the book is clearly written and substantial - indeed, adults interested in the subject would also do well with this one. It contains many direct quotes from primary sources, along with many fascinating photographs of the people involved, and hand-drawn illustrations by Sioux people who witnessed these events. The facts are presented in a straightforward manner, and while there is natural sympathy towards the unjustly dispossessed tribes herein, overall the book is remarkably balanced. Depth is given to people such as Custer and Major James Walsh. I like the way readers may draw their own conclusions rather than having them forced. There are few clear heroes or villains here, rather there is historical truth and tragedy.
