Clean, witty humor
I love this book! I received it as a gift many years ago and just thinking about the comics inside makes me chortle.

classic humor
it doesn't try to be overly sophisticated, and it tickled my funnybone.

The Secret Life of Dogs
Published in Paperback by Plume (1990)
Author: David Sipress
Amazon base price: $5.95
Average review score:

Awful piece of subjective anthropomorphic trash
I'm glad to see this book is out of print. It's awful! I expected something enlightening and remotely scientific. Instead I get a People's-Republic-of-Cambridge-centric opinion of how dogs behave. The author decries anthropomorphizing yet goes on to refer to the female dog in a pair as a 'wife'. (?) Seriously disappointing. Very skewed.

You Guys are Reviewing the Wrong Book!
I think you guys are all referring to a different book. The editorial review refers to this book as a collection of cartoons, and the author as David someone. Most of you seem to be writing about a book that I am unable to find, called I think, the INNER life of Dogs, not the SECRET Life of Dogs,a non-cartoon book, and the writer of that book is female, as referred to by the other reviews. Possibly this other book is out of print, but if you can find it, I highly reccomend it for the insight it gives into dog behavior. The rather angry reviewer, the only one who rated it badly, is totally off the mark. This is really the only book of its kind, and it is an invaluable resource for dog owners. Of course, if you want to buy that book, you are on the wrong page!

Enlightening and Interesting
I first ran across this book as a book on tape. I enjoyed how the author intertwined her own astute observations of dogs with other research. I came to appreciate how complex canine behavior could be, especially regarding social rules and heirarchies.

Sex, Love, and Other Problems
Published in Paperback by Plume (1992)
Authors: David Sipress and David Sopress
Amazon base price: $5.95
Average review score:

absolutely funny
I have a well-worn copy of this book and have also given at least seven copies of it as a Christmas or birthday present to as many people. It boggles me that a hilariously truthful book such as this David Sipress spot-cartoon compendium is not only out of stock here but also in the US. Adults need to regain their sanity and drive their romantic blues away by reading and re-reading this nifty collection, so a reissue should be done. Once that happens, especially of it becomes available again here where I live, I'll buy another seven copies right away, I kid you not.
