True tales from a fantasy ? world
This story lures you along a path of sheer escapism, and just as you are starting to relax in an imaginary world, drops you into some events that humans in very recent time have had to endure. Events that have been readily ignored by most of us in our "imaginary worlds", such as Bhopal and Kurdistan. So relax into the tale, and be prepared for a jolt.
Wise man's gentle warning to us all
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, for two reasons. Firstly, I should declare a personal interest: I was a colleague of Mr Sinha's during the period in which the events (all true, I believe) described in the book took place. Secondly, as a person of similar mindset, The Cybergypsies helps me to keep uppermost in mind the importance of balance, perspective and 'all things in moderation'. It was a privilege to work with Mr Sinha, and a great pleasure to read his powerful, elegant, intelligent prose - without being seduced into buying something! I have no doubt that this book will become a legendary volume, describing the beginnings of the internet. Indra Sinha successfully illuminates the significant events of his lifetime, capturing the essence of net culture. He blends story, characters and background detail to spellbinding effect. The Cybergypsies is a page-turner that left me exhilerated, sated and wiser. Balu, you are indeed a love god. Bomshanka.
Frantic world of time travelers on the cyber frontier!
I jumped into Cybergypsies with one quick bound..it grabbed me as its prisoner until the very end..Zany characters prance in and out to the click of the keyboard and the roar of the modem..I found myself being caught up in the frantic pace..neither here nor there..from one world to the next and back again in a split second.Jarley remains the true Hero!Bear his Alter ego! A wild burst of wind speeds the characters on into the nether world of the cyber addict. A delightful bit of intrigue worthy of Ian Fleming with all the wild hilarity of Kurt Vonnegut. A good read to the very end!

Great entry-point for the curious
This wonderfully illustrated-yet-informative translation of the classic text breaks down the classic Kama Sutra text in a way tat's mindful of the roots of the culture from which the tome was spawned, while being accessible for the merely curious. A great launching pad for the curious and a nice, quick reference for those who use the kama Sutra for more than reading. Coupled with "The Complete Kama Sutra", you should have no more questions.

Publishers should listen to authors.
This book is really two books.
The first, an eclectic (and hopefully reasonably academic) collection of thoughts and writings from around the world, more than that I cannot yet say, having recieved the book this morning.
The second, a collection of asian pornography, -some of which is 'tantric', little or none of which from classical Indian texts' gathered by the publisher to 'spice' up the text. The footnotes under most of the pictures look pretty much made up, seem to be unresearched or ill-researched, and bear little or no relevance to the copy.
Had I seen that the publisher decided to promote the subject heading as'Sexuality/Art', I would have not bought the book.
I will not buy books published by Destiny again.
For those of you who think that Tantra to do with sex, I recommend you look at the world around you, and ask yourself "What is? What is not?" Why? Because you are grasping at something that isn't there.
I sincerely hope that the copy is considered and provocative. If so, I shall revise my rating.

Great introduction to & history of tantra, beautiful artwork
The author of this book has written a fascinating study of tantric ideas and practices, focusing on their relation to gnosis, ie., mystical knowledge of god acquired via the winding left-hand path.
Apparently the author was upset when her book was published - it has been marred (gasp!) by the inclusion of dozens and dozens of beautiful, full color illustrations of hindu religious and erotic artwork.
I hope I'm not out of line in suggesting that, from the standpoint of the reader, the artwork is a GOOD THING. Actually, this is the best single source of information conmnection tantra with gnosticism I have have ever seen AND the best single collection of indian erotica I have ever seen.
TWO BOOKS IN ONE! YEAH!
simply excellent
This is NOT a book of sexual Eastern imports. It deals with the spiritual discipline known as tantra, illustrating its explanations with images and excerpts from the sacred texts. Invaluable.
