Not just for Halloween!
This is a great book. The illustrations are fantastic. My fifth grade class loves it!

Profound ramifications for Piaget et al.
Singer and Grimley have offered a disturbing look into what makes children tick. While presenting themes of exploration into what makes us frightened they have revealed the horrible duplicity of children's literature - good clean kiddie fun and the conflict with societal pressures as defined by what lurks in the closet/future.

Singer's poetic skills are not enough to release the monster within. Grimly, however, skillfully makes the whole message possible. His art focuses the reader's attention to the horrors at hand. The graphic depictions implying the grotesqueness of rote learning are on display for all to judge.

This book will be a delight for both young children and adults with Phd's in litural critique.

Poems worthy of Ogden Nash
One of the best books of poetry for young children to come out in years. Cleverly done and with pleasing (not scary) illustrations. Some of the poems are too long for my 3-year old (so we skip the ends) but the older kids think they're a riot. The monsters give this book something of a Halloween theme, but it's general enough to remain on the bookshelf all year long.

True Love - A Must Read
"THE COURSE OF TRUE LOVE NEVER DID RUN SMOOTH"
is an intriguing book involving Becky and Nemi, two best friends. They each fall in love with a brother and sister, Blake and Leila Harris. Becky loves being with Blake but wonders why she is not as happy as she wishes she could be. She starts getting feelings of jealousy whenever she sees Nemi with Leila. As the teens practice for their school play Becky realizes her true feelings. I like this book because it relates to life and shows you your true love can be right in front of you.

Amazing book! A must read!
This book is about two best friends (Nemi and Becky) who are in High school. When they both "fall in love" , the term used lightly, with a pair of siblings, they scheme of how to get them together. When they acheive their plan however, they find out that it's not really what they want. It is very well written and I suggest all of you out there ages 12 - 19 read it.

Perfect for youngsters 10 and older, Footprints On The Roof is a thoughtful, well crafted collection that shouldn't be missed. "Out in the country I walk across towns/I'll never see:/mazy metropolises/under the earth/where rabbits hide from foxes/foxes hide from dogs/full-bellied snakes sleep snugly/worms work uncomplaining // Where what you see is nothing-/what counts is what you smell/or hear or feel/I try to tread softly:/a quiet giant/leaving only footprints/on the roof"

Great read with my 7 year old son
I loved this book. I have read it every night with my son for the past week. It has beautiful poems and has great artwork. I recently bought it for a friend's child as well. This is accesible to children, but does not pander to them. Fabulous

A very unique animal book for inquisitive young readers.
Bottoms Up! isn't another book about bodily functions per say, but a survey of animal bottoms and their varied uses. From setting traps to zapping enemies, spiders, skunks, and other animals are the focus with Patrick O'Brien adding realistic drawings throughout.

Kids just love this book of "Doggy Rhymes"
It catches the imagination of the dog lover in all of us. My 3 year old niece loved the pictures showing a dozen different types of "puppy ears". I read it for her so many times that I just decided to buy her a copy. It has great illustrations of different breeds of dogs to match each poem. You are definitely going to enjoy this one.

Caution:
With an eye for negative influence on children, I submit the following criticism: An ending attitude of pride ("Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18); I want my children to learn humble self-assurance, hence the "just misses the mark" rating. Please consider this and preview for yourself and your children. The positives: Pictures positively delightful and detailed. Chester initially reflects the characteristics of a loving shepherd. May help teach the days of the week. An inconsequential negative: I found myself leaving out "extra" words as I read.

Chester The out of work dog
This book is fantastic! The book is about a dog who has much love for his job and his family. One awful day he gets fired from his job at the farm. In search of work, he moves to the city and he finds that it is a very different lifestyle.

I laughed out loud....
Chester, who is a herding dog (and obviously a Border Collie) moves from the country to the city and gets into a number of misadventures before he finds a job to keep him occupied.

Chester's attempts to find something to herd in the city are the funniest part of the book--the ending is a little cute.

And for anyone who is misled by the review citing Christian scripture, the book has nothing to do with religion, Christian or otherwise, unless you believe Border Collies are a religion in themselves. Sheeesh!!!!!
