"Good Doctor's" diagnosis: HILARIOUS
They put this play on at my school, and I was laughing the whole way through, especially in the "War" section with the Army and the Navy. Oh who am I kidding, THE WHOLE THING was that funny. You will never regret buying this, it is a buried treasure to literature just waiting to be performed, or read, with enthusiastic gusto!

Wonderful!
A few friends and myself did "The Defenseless Creature" for a drama/large group speech contest. I was Pochatikin, so had very little to do other than keep myself from breaking out laughing during the performance! Needless to say, we did VERY WELL at contest recieving a perfect score!

A literary star is born!
What a hilarious, insightful book! We have bought it for everyone we know! Can't wait for the next book and LOVE his cartoons in The New Yorker (it's the only reason we subscribe). Run, don't walk to you're nearest bookstore!

Oh, if only I could say it all as well as Bruce Eric Kaplan.
I can't get enough of this book. It has truly put me in stitches. I chortle to myself as I walk down the street thinking about it; I talk about it non-stop. Kaplan has a unique, endlessly gratifying talent. His humor is brilliant and insurpassable, and his firm, knowing handle on the motives and foibles of today's humans is flabbergasting. I couldn't stop turning the page to see what he would deliver next! This book is like a little glowing gem.

Piercing and Funny
You know BEK's work from the New Yorker even if you don't know his name. The cartoons are wonderfully funny and have a timelessness to them. He puts the most devastating words into the mouths of children and dogs. I highly recommend it to anyone, and especially those people who read the cartoons first in the New Yorker.

Brighton Beach Memoirs
Brighton Beach Memoirs is a play about a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in 1937. The boy's name is Eugene Jerome. The play is divided into two acts. The first act is one night in Eugene's house. The second act is a week later in his house. Eugene is growing up in a hectic and eventful household of seven family members. He writes memoirs in his journal about his family and different events occurring in his life. During the play, Eugene share's his own personal thoughts with the audience. This really gives the audience an inside look on Eugene's life. I reall liked having this inside view. It really kept me into the book. Brighton Beach Memoirs was a real page turner. I highly recommend it!

A play that should be read by families.
"Brighton Beach Memoirs" by Neil Simon is just superb! I saw the movie before reading this play, and I love it, so I knew I would at least like the play. I *love* the play; it's become one of my favorites. I fell in love with all of the characters and just adore the feeling of family that comes through while reading it. With witty dialogue (that can truly be appreciated my by people of the Jewish faith), I couldn't stop laughing, smiling, and just enjoying myself. I recommend.

It's In the Family.
There is a reason that Neil Simon is revered by the public, yet basted by critics. His plays contain characters and situations that just about anyone can relate with. BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS is based upon Simon's youth. It is a family play; not only is it about a family, it is a play that the whole family will enjoy. Lots of laughs and tons of fun.

Great book for small time readers!!!
This book is about a young Jewish man Eugene Morris Jerome and his thoughts and trials through the United States Army in the early 1940's during World War 2. In the beginning Eugene sets out to accomplish three goals while he is on his journey through the army. The three goals were to become a writer to have sex for the first time and most impotant of all not get killed.
In my opinion this is a very good book for the person who isn't really into the long drawn out novel type of books. This book isn't a book for virgin ears or in other words in some cases the reading gets kind of vulgar. Yet at the same time Neil Simon also does something I have never had happen to me before. He really stunned me when he not only made the book feel so real and personal, in some cases but he also challenged me and in the end really made you think about what just happened.
This book is for any gender male or female who are mature in there own sense. Neil Simon goes all out from the males point of view in the 1940's and in the army. It not only is very funny and amusing to read but also gives you the reader a good look on what goes through a guys head. It is very interesting, yet so true and personally (in its hundred and some pages which is very cool in its own right) I found myself wanting to read more and I couldn't put the book down. So for all the readers out there who love straight to the point literature that is not only hilarious to read but has a truth to it this book is for you.

Neil Simon uses comedy to it's fulist
I feel that neil simon is one of the best playwrights ever. His play Biloxi Blues shows his talent to express what he knows most about comedy. I'm not much of a reader but I give this play a thumbs up definetly!!!

Like M*A*S*H but for real
Biloxi Blues was the second of the 'Memoir' trilogy that I read. I laughed out loud most of the time which is odd. Usually when an author is trying to be funny...it's not. Simon can express his sense of humor in a way that is actually humorous. I didn't know it could be done! I'm not an avid reader, and maybe it's because of this lack of humanity and stupidity that I am repelled. I plan to finnish this trilogy as soon as I can get my hands on 'Broadway Bound.' "HO!"

Film Comedy Poetry - 1968
Brilliantly paced writing that was brought to full fruition by the Lemmon/Matthau team in 1968, though I would have loved to have seen Art Carney's "Felix".

The third reel is weak mostly in comparison to the gargantuan strength of the first two. If I am not mistaken, Neil Simon himself has said as much. The film is superior to the play ( an amazing feat of adaptation).

Personally, I have no use for the sequel. Nor would I have welcomed "Mona Lisa II - If you thought La Giaconda was enigmatic - Just Wait!" When art is perfect, leave it alone.

As an aside, Comic Chemistry's review displays perhaps the most pretentious writing I have ever seen. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the screenplay, and above all, the original film.

The best comedy stories ever!
Neil Simon's The Odd Couple I and II are the two funniest plays of all time. This wonderful book which has both screenplay's is a great read. It is also fun to read along with the book watching the films and then reciting the dialogue with a friend. Cheers to Simon!

Comic chemistry
When you read something by Neil Simon, especially these two great installments, don't expect for the material to solve any problems or make you see the state of world differently. To me, that's simply not what Simon's work is all about. When you watch two movies like The Odd Couple and it's sequel, I think the main thing you need to do is laugh - and with these two you'll do plenty of that. The comedy translates very well from the page to the stage and/or screen - but one of the main things that makes something like The Odd Couple work is the chemistry between the actors - namely Jack Lemmon or Walter Matthau. While the first Odd Couple grew claustrophobic inside Oscar's apartment, the second covers road trip territory and sends the two characters out into the world. Although the first was a product of the mid-60s, it didn't display the counter-culture revolutionary feel, and even though the sequel was written in the mid-90s it doens't retain the crass indulgences brought on by many writers of the times. These two works are very innocent in what they convey, and the comedy is light and broad, yet sometimes retaining a darker, more succint feel to it. These are scripts about friends and friendships and male-bonding - and they succeed in making us laugh and loving the characters we're presented with.

Adorably Entertaining Play
I first heard of this play from my good friend, who happened to see it performed in Central Park. I later saw this old copy of the play laying around my high school stage office, and picked it up, remembering my friends mention of it... upon finishing the play (within two days, I could NOT put it down) I realized I have NEVER laughed so hard outloud while reading any sort of literature.. it is witty, comical, and softly but lovingly expressing the hardships of the first days of marriage and living together with your beloved. I highly highly highly recommend picking this up for a mood-lifter, or just a good laugh. It is light and entertaining and very cute!

The adventures and foibles in beginning married life
Barefoot In The Park is the complete and unabridged ninety minute audiobook presentation of a classic Neil Simon romantic comedy. Wonderfully performed by Laura Linney and Eric Stoltz, Barefoot In The Park is the flawlessly recorded production that tells the story of a new lawyer and his young bride, the adventures and foibles in beginning married life, complicated by an uptight mother-in-law and an eccentric gourmet chef who lives in a loft on the roof of their apartment (their window ledge is the only access to his padlocked premises). A superb choice for any personal, school, or community audiobook collection, Barefoot In The Park is also available in a CD format...

My God!
Since combinatorics is my major, this book fulfills my dream. It contains over 5000 sequences, from famous Fibonacci to notorious 1,3,6,11,17,25,... (Perfect ruler, general term still unknown ), to nonsense 1,11,21,1211,111221,..(every term describe the former term). Nearly every important integer sequence in mathematics get a line here, with references. This is a dream book for combinatorics specialists, a must for high-school teachers while doing some short essays with gifted students, a fun book for mathematics fans, especially those like mathematical games.

The book is a compilation of all important sequences in math
This is a compilation of 5488 sequences in more than 8000 references. Each sequence comes with a description, formula, generating function (if known). It is an essential reference book for all researchers in mathematics in general. There are 2 parts, the first part consist of 3 chapters that explain how to 'crack' a sequence and what are the main methods for doing so. The second part is the huge list of all the sequences. The book comes with a diskette and an comprehensive index + complete bibliography. An enthusiastic reader once said that : 'There is the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.'

It was FUN
Proposals is great humor that pulls at your heart strings. I performed in this show as Clemma Diggins. She is an insightful character with a sharp tongue. Her moments as narrator come at the right time to add suspense and in some places a bit of comic relief. Her entrances allow the other characaters plights to be built up but not to go over the edge. For example, the bird funeral could get ridiculous, but fortunately Clemma shows up and like a chorus leads us through the action with out having to see it. This is definately a fun show, worth reading, performing and seeing.

Amazing!
I was in this play production at my local college! Proposals is an amazing tribute to "disfunctional" families of the 1950's. It's hilarious! I, myself, am a member of generation-X, but found Proposals no less histerical! I can only imagine how one of the 50's generation would find it! It is definatly my faveorite Simon piece!
