AIDS: Deadly Threat
This book is very straightforward, no sugar coating. Describes in detail what AIDS is, those who are at risk of contracting AIDS, symptoms of AIDS, and the social, political and medical aspects of the disease. Gives case histories involving people who have been denied their given rights because they are infected with the AIDS virus. Gives accounts of the major research and medical break throughs that are being conducted continuously in hopes of stopping the widespread and looking to a cure for this deadly virus. This book is a definite must for teenagers or anyone who is thinking of becoming sexually active or who is already sexually active. Makes you stop and think really hard about the possible consequences of your actions--be them well thought out or carelessly made.

Mad Mad Monday is a lot of laughs and very fun to read.
Mad Mad Monday is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. If I had to rate books like Booklist I would say " a story that gives a lot of laughs that will make teens want to read it over and over".

cute and informative!
This is a wonderful book and would be a great help to anyone who wants to know more about mice. The book is full of fantastic black and white photos. My favorite are the pics that show how fast baby mice grow- they are shown at 1 day, 7 days, 13 days, and 26 days old. The text of the book is simple enough for a kid to understand (and would be a great help with a mice-related science project or paper!) and it's pretty comprehensive- it really does tell all about them.

The Sea Otter
I am 13 and in the 8th grade. We had to read a nonfiction book for a science book report and I chose this one! It was very interesting and easy to read. It took me about an hour to read it. I found all the information very useful! SOmething I found useful was the facts about sea otters at the end.....it summarized the basic info from the book which made the report very easy to wrrite! Usually I come to amazon.com to find the book cover so I cna print it out for my posterboard, and was very disappointed that there was not one for this book....other than that i really love amazon.com. I think kids would enjoy this book becasue although it has facts it is not boring! So but the book and read it! I also thought it was very good that they had enviromental issues included in the book!

Factual; complete; good introduction to an endangered specie
I serve as the Chief of Resource Education at Badlands National Park, one of the few sites in North America that has had black-footed ferrets reintroduced. This book has good information and provides children between the ages of 8 and 12 with a good introduction to this extremely rare mammal species. It is a bit dated as the black-footed ferret recovery program continues; however, it is still a good reference.

This book is a good source for younger readers
This book is a good source for young readers to learn about the wondrous creatures that are manatees. The book is extrememly informative, and the illustrations far surpass any other I have ever seen. As an enviromentalist, I strongly reccommend encouraging any and all children you know to read this and other books about manatees, their endangerment, and protection efforts.

Sickle Cell Anemia (Diseases and People)
I thought this book was quite interesting. It explained Sickle Cell Anemia in an easy to understand manner. Some parts of the book were boring and seemed a little long, but I liked it when the book used stories of real people who live with the disease. All in all, I thought this book was very helpful and informative and I would recomend it to middleschool or highschool students who are doing a report on the topic.

Fails to Break Free of ADA Dogma
I bought this book recently hoping to share it with my children. I will not do so because the book suggests some practices that are not healthy.

For example the book recommends brushing with a flouride toothepaste. The "fluoride" used in toothepastes is virtually always calcium fluoride obtained as a by-product of the fertilizer and aluminum industries. This fluoride has not been demonstrated to help prevent cavities in any way. The ADA has suggested that "fluoride" prevents cavities. There is no science to back up this statement. I personally have done my best to avoid fluoride for the past two years, and I feel that my teeth are healthier than ever.

The book also fails to warn readers of the dangers of amalgam fillings. It claims that amalgam fillings are made from "silver and other metals." Ha. Dental amalgam actually has little to no silver in it. The amalgams are usually about 50% mercury, and other metals such as nickel and copper.

The book is beneficial only in that it recommends caring for your teeth by brushing and visiting a dentist.

Much better information will be found in such sources as Breiner's "Whole Body Dentistry", Morton's "Elements of Danger", Huggins' "Uninformed Consent", and Jerome's "Tooth Truth".

Great
This is an excellent choice for young readers. It is very comprehensive, interesting, and has excellent photographs. It is the most well-written book on this subject, and I have read them all! This is my number one choice for a children's book about dental health.
