Wonderfully Mind Opening
After the flood of her citie's river, Robin Silverman took the time and effort to re-build her life from scratch. Learning thoughout the way what we take for granted and how not to. The most prominent of things we take for granted are Faith, Love, Trust, Thanks, Joy, Dreams, Intention, Courage, Unity and Character. These ten things, are also known as The Ten Gifts. Some of them take time to aquire, but most you have the ability to use from childhood.

We so often take the things we're comfortable with for granted. We're programmed to be propelled by the avoidance of pain, and the pursuit of pleasure. But there is much pleasure in what you have already. Look around. Look at the people who lovingly support your every move and look and the gifts they've graciously given to you. Reading this book re-opens your mind with the ability to look at everything anew. And also, not take it for granted, because it can just as easily be taken away.

At the end of each chapter, Robin lets you exercise your gifts with questions, suggestions and advice. Her down-to-earth writing style makes it seem like you're sitting with her, listening to her story one-on-one. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to everyone. Even you!

A splendid book
Wonderful! You are offered step by step tools that helps to bring peace of mind, joy and fulfillment.

Ten Gifts is an excellent title
Was laying in bed in the early fall of 2000, and was flipping the stations on my radio when I came upon a cool radio show out of New York City, called the Joey Reynolds Show, where he had this wonderful lady on who had authored this gem of a book The Ten Gifts. She was joyful but not pious, funny but not stuffy.

This is a book that whether you are Jewish or Christian or simply as most people do, believe in a G~d or the big bang guy, can get alot from. It grew out of a tragic situation that sadly few Americans even remember. The Red River flooding of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and its sister city, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.60,000 plus people were effected and many areas are still recovering.

The Ten Gifts she writes indepth about are: The gift of Faith, The gift of Love, The gift of Dreams, The gift of Courage, The gift of Unity, The gift of Joy, The gift of Trust, The gift of Character, The gift of Thanks, The gift of Intention.

This is not a get quick happiness book, where you wake up one morning and discover all your challenges have gone "poof". What she does do is teach you lessons with ideas that you can use, one day at a time, who over weeks and months can help your life become happier or at least more at peace.

Men or women will find value in this book
Had reviewed her Ten Gifts book a few years ago and wanted this book partly because I like her writing style and partly because what she writes about is a major interest of mine. And she certainly didn't disappoint me.

The nice things about this book is its nice to have a book when you're hungry to read something of value that has something of value to share. The dozens of stories about the unexpected gifts that come into our lives, that are written about, make this book a treat when you want something to read that will energize you. Sorta like a cool fresh clean glass of water on a hot day, or the hot cup of chocolate as the snow falls outside.

Since I am an avid gardener I see each of the dozens of stories she has, as blooms in my garden that I can enjoy every day and for years to come. Like each new flower season and new blooms each story seems to offer a new lesson each time I re-read the book.

Men and women should like this book. And its a great book to give to someone whose in a rut, for a birthday or any occasion. And yes I have some favorites in the book. Namely You Never Know-the wonder of nonjudgement, Beautiful Hands-The wonder of self acceptance, The ... Miracle, Someone Who Cares, A Hug From God, Lost and Found and Strong Stuff-The wonder of achieving personal balance.

Pitch the Prozac
We are surrounded by beauty and wonder--Robin will make it come alive in your world. You will see possibilities in every crisis--you will find hope and goodness where once you saw only despair. I say, "pitch the Prozac" and read Robin's books.

"A Breath of Fresh Air" :)
A WONDERFUL "Breath of Fresh Air" is what Robin L. Silverman's newest book is...

Ahhhhhh... in this time of so many "scarey" stories on television or in our newspapers, it is a refreshing, (and MUCH appreciated) change to read Robin's newest book. "Something Wonderful is About to Happen".It is a collection of true, (and oh-so-wonderful) stories of real people and the wonderful things that happened to them when their hearts and spirits were open to them. While you are reading this joyful book, look up and glance in the mirror... you will find that you are smiling!(inside and out!).

After reading this book your heart will be open to receiving "somthing wonderful" in YOUR life as well. Get ready! :)

A Bosnian Family ----- the main character's opinion
I find this book to be very interesting and educational although, I am not very sure that the kids will find it too interesting where it talks about politics and religion. Its very interesting to read about Velma and her family and their struggle, but some of the things are boring to read even for me and I am Velma (the main character in the book). This is one of those books that might make people stop and think for a second about their life and what they have. The sad thing is that its only for a second that they stop and appreciate life. Robin tried to explain the best way she could what happens when people come to the US and also the reason for their coming. The book is not very hard to understand especailly since everyone has heard of Bosnia and what happened there. I had fun reading it for the first time (I kind of laughed at some of the things I said). I guess now that I am 17 years old, I don't think the same way. Overall the book gives you a warm feeling at the end to know that Velma and her family made it and that they are safe.
