A great selection of children's literature in one book
As a child I read this book and re-read it and re-read it so many times that my hardbound copy fell apart! What more can be said for the attraction of a book?

This treasury consists of complete stories as well as excerpts from classic books such as Winnie the Pooh, the Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. It has variety of genres -- Aesops fables, Grimm's fairy tales, stories from the Arabian nights, as well as more contemporary work. One of my favorites, Turn on the Night, is a great story to help soothe children who are scared of the dark.

Additionally, the book is filled with wonderful illustrations. Each story has its own style, so there is something new and interesting on each page (almost).

I highly recommend this book for good readers in the early elementary grades and for all middle grade elementary readers. I enjoyed it much longer as a child, but it is sure to be appreciated by those grades.

A Wonderful Introduction to Other Children's Classics!
I can't remember a time when this book wasn't on our bookshelf in my parents' home. My father and mother took turns reading us the stories, and when I was old enough, I insisted on taking my turn to read aloud. I can't say enough good things about this collection, filled with beautiful and whimsical illustrations, exerpts from children's classics and unique stories that you may never have seen elsewhere. Many of the classic Grimm and Anderson fairy tales are presented in what is probably close to their original form (NOT P.C., but parents, don't worry - young children have an amazing capacity to absorb the grotesque without the fears that come with adolescence and adulthood). It also contains exerpts from such children's classics as "The Hobbit", "Peter Pan", "Alice in Wonderland", and "The Wind in the Willows". Another plus: the stories in this collection are not edited, re-worded, or otherwise scaled down for the young reader - a boon to those of us who understand that small children can and do learn "up" to the level of reading/conversation with which they are presented. Warning: Some of the fairy tales (like "Blue Beard") can be considered graphic and frightening - although small children may not be frightened at all due to a limited ability to absorb such imagery. Whatever you do, do NOT let the fear of a couple of gory fairy tales keep you from introducing your child to the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien, Oscar Wilde, Kenneth Grahame, A.A. Milne, and Lewis Carroll.

Awesome!
This is my favorite book, I received it when I was 10 and now my son discovered it in the school library and has almost finished it all. It has fabulous stories for all ages.

Lovely book, lovely story
We've owned this book since my oldest daughter (who is now 12) was a toddler. It continues to be a family favorite, especially for reading aloud. It's one of the few stories that my 2 year old will listen to all the way through, he especially loves the echo element. This is a lovely story with lovely illustrations and I highly recommend it!

Review for Little Beaver and the Echo
I really enjoyed the story "Little Beaver and the Echo." The story had a very cool and creative story line that made it interesting and fun. The pictures were also really neat. They were very detailed and colorful. The story is about a young beaver who is search for someone accross the lake ,that ends up being his echo. On the way he pickes up a variety of friends. For example, he finds a duck, an otter, and a turtle. This book , in my opinion, was excellent. I highly suggest this to you.

Classic book on friendship -- with cute pictures!
This heart-touching picture book about a beaver's search for a friend isn't just for kids (although my nieces and nephews love it, too!). The story-line is clear and the full-color illustrations are EXCELLENT. Readers will have fun catching little details in the pictures.

A lovely sweet book!
I found this in a bookshop, and thought it ideal to teach a friend of mine of 5 yrs of age, many basic things about Jewish life. It's informative, easy to read and lovely on the eyes. It's something that your child will treasure for a long time, and then pass it on to their children.......My "little friend" loved it!

A Lovely Book
It was a pleasure to find a book of such beautiful poetry for religious Jewish children. After reading it a few times to my children, I bought a few more copies for gifts!

Supportive, clear, resourceful info for high school grad.
I wish I'd had a book like this when I graduated high school and wasn't quite ready for college. Fortunately, this book is available to my kids--it gives confidence, courage, clarity, and loads of information. And, it promotes flexible thinking, allowing them to see graduation and beyond as the next step to adulthood. This author really cares about kids.

A Good Way to Learn about History
This is a good solid book with plenty of well-drawn black and white pictures to help the reader follow the story line. It tells an interesting true story of a young woman who dresses as a man in order to join the army during the American Revolution. The book also introduces the reader to various historical characters of the time, such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. This is an easy book for young children to read, and could be a good starting point in getting a child interested in history. Let's hope that it is reprinted again soon as it is an excellent book and is worth having on any bookshelf, private or public.

An involving, absorbing anthology
Lost And Found And Other Stories by Rachel Yaffe is an entertaining and enlightening anthology of short stories written specifically for preteen readers and drawing from Jewish history and experience. Each tale is centered upon character of a young woman struggling to hold on to Jewish identity in a turbulent and often terrible world. From a young woman caught in the terror of the Nazi oppression and extermination during World War II, to young women learning the Talmud, to dilemmas concerning raising enough money to ransom a king, to the wistful ties of childhood friendship, to contemporary highschool girls torn between the siren call of peer group popularity and the demands of their personal conscience, Lost And Found And Other Stories is an involving, absorbing anthology and very highly recommended reading.

I was one of the women at The Women's Encampment for A Future of Peace And Justice. My photo is in the book hanging our pillow cases on the military fence.

So good to see that what we experienced has not been forgotten.

this book brings smiles and sometimes belly laughs as one navigates the trials of grandmotherhood. it makes a terrific gift for any age grandmother.

HAPPY READING
WHAT A DELIGHT ! COULDN'T HELP BUT TO RELATE TO HER FAMILY SITUATIONS. FOUND MYSELF LAUGHING OUT LOUD. SORRY THE BOOK WAS SO SHORT. HOPE THAT THERE IS A SEQUEL.

Entertaining and educational
Incredible! This book is the perfect gift for the first time grandmother (or for the any time grandmother), and it wouldn't hurt to give it to grandpa, as well. You know that all of the incidents that are described have to be true. They couldn't be anything else. Read it and learn. You cannot find another book that conveys the same message ...
