The John F. Kennedys: A Family Album

FAMILY FRIENDLY
Mark Shaw's book is a real treat. His loving, poignant photographs show the real love, the real bonds, the real ties within the most famous family. The pictures of little Caroline and John are among my favorites. Caroline and John from all accounts have remained so natural, so wonderfully, refreshingly normal. I loved seeing these two children at play. Pennsylvania Avenue could have been Main Street. To their parents' credit, they grew up unaffected. This book shows it.

TOUCHING PHOTOGRAPHS
This book has beautiful photographs of the former first family. Congradulations to Mark Shaw for a wonderful job!!!!!! FOR QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS ON JACKIE ONASSIS, PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT MellissaLD@aol.com. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

The John F. Kennedys : A Family Album.
Mark Shaw's photographs capture the idyllic moments of John, Jackie, Caroline and John Jr., whether at play in the White House or laughing together on a Cape Cod beach. The simple yet stunning photos of this famous foursome will be as familiar to you as your own family photo album.

To those who were there when John Kennedy was in the White House, this book will serve as a touching remembrance and to people who know about the Kennedys from just a historical standpoint, the photos and words will provide a more personal glimpse into the years that are commonly referred to as the Camelot era. Richard Reeves words are not overly sentimental but an accurate assessment of the life and times of this legendary family.

Overall, The John F. Kennedys: A Family Album, is a pleasant, yet sometimes sad journey looking back at what was considered the perfect family of two successful, stunning parents and their adorable children. Behind the photos, all was not perfect but Mark Shaw's camera didn't lie -- in the end, they were like any other family with problems but in-between they knew how to have fun and simply enjoy each others company, as is evident in many of Shaw's photos, especially those showing them at play at their home on Cape Cod.

Followers of the Kennedy's will no doubt enjoy this book, as will those who are interested in what life was like for a very public family who shared their private times with a talented photographer and with the world. If you like taking a look back in time, you will no doubt enjoy the journey Mark Shaw and Richard Reeves takes you on.

Great for Students
This textbook is awesome for serious students who would really like to graspe latin better. It contains the answer key to all the exercises as well as tips for teachers on presenting the material. If you own the student edition, consider the teacher's guide to help you along your way!

A teacher's teacher!
As a Latin tutor with over three years experience with teaching this language, and several years of learning it, this text was a surprise. Not only did it offer me better ways to use the Cambridge readers with my pupils, it also provided me with new information that I found interesting for myself. This manual combines grammar with the easy learning tool of an ongoing storyline, as well as providing application skills and ideas, with some baitable history as well. It helps me not only teach my students better but keep them wanting to learn. Anyone looking forward to teaching, or even learning, this language, should most certainly have this book close at hand.

Painting the Black
In the book "Painting the Black", Ryan Ward is a senior in high school. he had a love to play baseball until he broke his ankle. That all changed when Josh Daniels moved in the street. Ryan found that love for basball again. They started playing around down at the Community Center on the baseball diamonds. Then football season came around and Josh was going to try out for the team. Josh made the team and didn't want to throw the baseball around. He wanted to throw the football around cince he was the back up Quarterback. That was bad for Ryan because Ryan had just decided to tryout for the baseball team as a cather. Ryan needed all the practice he could get if he wanted to make the team. Josh was the star, when the starting Quater back was injured in the first game. Then, josh got in trouble at school for lifting a girls shirt up. His ponisment was he wasn't allowed to play in the next football game. That was the game that would allow them to go to state.I think this is one of the best books i have ever read. I recomend this book to any body that likes any kind of sport. Anybody would like this book.

Great visual component for early childhood, beginning reader
Definitions in this book were read, one or two lettters at a time, as bedtime stories, when our child was just learning to read. We read it many times over, and it was fun and informative. The simple colorful illustrations were a delight. This year our child at age 11 won a full four year scholarship to Purdue, because he received one of the top scores in state Mathcounts competition. His foundation in math began with this dictionary.

Lay This Laurel

Immortal Memorial
Generally hailed as America's finest Civil War memorial--maybe the most powerful memorial to any American war--the St. Gaudens masterpiece on Boston Common has inspired poetry, music, and probably a movie, "Glory." Lincoln Kirstein has written a stirring essay on the subjects: Colonel Shaw and his Massachusetts 54th Regiment (black), what they meant to their contemporaries, and their message for today. Although the photographs were taken in a bleak period for the Memorial (it badly needed restoration, which it received shortly after this book came out), Richard Benson's photographs are still powerful, able to transmit with finesse the messages of Shaw, his black comrades, St. Gaudens, and Lincoln Kirstein. It's a beautiful book, a labor of love.

Best beginner text offered at the local book store
I took a look through the 20 or so Latin books and dictionaries at my locals B&N book store. This one seems by far the strongest candidate for self-study (my intended use) - combining
a fairly attractive visual presentation with some interesting and easy-to-digest history/background information. Actually this is the only book I saw that I would consider buying. [I am thinking of learning a little Latin with my son, for fun and general education.]

An easy Latin lesson...
I used these books in high school a few years back. Now I've picked them up to learn Latin on my own. Unfortunately I need a second language for my Masters, and my college didn't offer Latin.

The first book jumps you right into the lessons. Most books I've found, force grammer and pronounciation through the first few chapters.

People put down Latin and are afraid to learn it, saying it is hard. Considering the romantic languages and much of English come from Latin, it's a lot easier than people think. Just use common sense and you can learn to pick out words. I gave a few passages to my Latin-free husband and he got the idea of some of the sentences. It took a bit of figuring, but anyone should be able to do it.

The only negative, is using this book alone. It helps to have someone to ask questions of. At least when you get into the conjegating of verbs and their declensions. If you can find someone to ask a few questions of, then you're all set.

The Superior Latin Course
If you are just starting ut in Latin, and you want to learn the language with and exciting storyline, useful grammar tips, and cultural information at the end of each 'Stage' or chapter, then you would like to buy this superior textbook. In a set of four, the first book contains twelve stages.

Feng Shui
Published in Paperback by Harpercollins Pub Ltd (2000)
Authors: Richard Craze and Carol Shaw
Amazon base price: $7.95
Average review score:

To the point!
This is the best book I've found for those of us who have only a vague concept of what feng shui is, and how it is practiced. It covers the historical background and application to modern living perfectly - clear and concise. The analogies the writer uses are very helpful for us narrow-minded Westerners.

A question for autors
I read this book and I want to ask the autors a question about the Pah Kwa. I didn't find their email address, so I'll post it here. They said that the fame enrichment is always positioned over the font door. I got other information from other authors, and different Pah Kwa plans. I don't know which is right. I study architecture and I'm very intrested in Feng shui. I'll make a diploma degree out of Feng shui and I must make it right. Maybe I can get an email address of them here. Please contact me.

Precise and Informative
This is the first book I've read front to back on feng shui. I knew a bit about the subject before I read this book, but was uncertain how to apply it to my life. This book held my interest and is clear and informative without being dry. It takes you step by step through the process (with many easy to follow diagrams) on how to analyze your living and working space--and even your garden. I was fascinated by feng shui before I read this book; now I'm hooked. Even if you don't completely believe it, by applying even some of the principles, i.e., wind chimes, plants, less clutter(!), more (or less) color in your home or office, you can create a more harmonius and peaceful environment away from the frantic pace of life. And, do it without a spending a lot of money. Great book!

The Perfect Wagnerite: A Commentary on the Niblung's Ring
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (1967)
Authors: George Bernard Shaw and Bernard Shaw
Amazon base price: $7.95
Average review score:

The Perfect Wagner Critic
If we're going to have a voice worthy of critiquing the great master, it might as well be Shaw. For those who have not read any Shaw, he's a wickedly entertaining writer, though a bit high brow at times. This is a book for the Wagnerite and the layman alike, but expect to get a little insulted if you belong to the latter category. As to the philosophies in this little book, just about everyone who likes the Ring has their own unique opinion about its deep political/spiritual meanings, including Shaw. And although everything he writes seems obvious enough to him, I can't say I'm completely convinced by all his ideas. The book is certainly worth reading, however, just to hear the Shaw's elegant take on the musical masterpiece. (also, at least some of his ideas must be right) Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the book is its attack on Gotterdammerung, the beloved finale of the Ring. Shaw argues it is nearly devoid of underlying meaning and is a superficial conclusion to an otherwise philosophically sound work. As a final note, I appreciate the Mark Twain-like ascerbic criticism of society which seems incorrigibly imprinted in Shaw's style. This book is entertaining, and in certain places, profound. I give it four stars. (maybe 5 if he hadn't criticized Brahms!)

A shining example of Shaw's art of musical criticism
About twenty years ago, the BBC World Service introduced me to readings from G. B. Shaw's musical criticisms. The readings showed me that critique is as much an art as the subject of the critique. This pamphlet is a shining example of Shaw's art of criticism. Shaw presents the story, he gives some musical analysis, but most of all he presents the "Ring" in a philosophical and politcal slant that only Shaw could do. I suspect that the philosophy and politics are more Shaw's than Wagner's. Great for thosw who like Wagner and G.B.Shaw. Good for someone new to Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Fascinating Criticism, Howls of Laughter
I have read almost all of Shaw's published works which have come within my reach. I see the deterioration in the quality of his work as the aging process set in, and of his defense of such people as Djerjinski and Stalin. When he is profound, he is very profound and when he is off the mark he is way out in zoonieland. This book, fortunately, shows more of his great skill at criticism and assimilation of background data than his equally great skill at polemics. Remember, the compositionof the _Ring_ was an event of the past for him, and he was able to use historical source material. But what caught my attention was that the London newspapers of his own day ran letters trying to reconcile the "Brunhilde problem" in _Gotterdamerung_. All of this was a burning issue to the London intelligentsia. But, to the point: BUY this book because it is HILARIOUS, in the best sense of that word. This is Shaw, maybe not at his level best, but close to it. Learn while you laugh! The ideas propounded in this book have been burned into my memory because I have read them over and over. Read this book if you can appreciate subtle jokes.
