Highest Recommendation
Even if you're not an activist and don't want to be, as long as you have any sort of interest in social change, this book will be well worth reading. Packed with examples of how movements have succeeded and failed, this extremely readable handbook will inspire through its analysis of strategies and tactics that can be used to accomplish what many of us desperately want. Most of us understand already that simply arguing for social justice will fail to achieve it, but -- as Shaw demonstrates -- Herculean efforts, if miscalculated, will just as surely fail. In this book, Shaw describes successful strategies for community organizers, effective relationships with elected officials, the use of coalitions, ballot initiatives, the media, lawyers, and direct action strategies. The most persuasive theme tying each of these discussions together is that the best defense is an effective offense, that a failure to aggressively pursue positive change is a strategy for worsening the status quo.

GREAT ideas and examples for Activists
This book is highly readable and has GREAT examples and tips. The author shows examples where organizations succeeded and where they failed. As a novice activist, I found it to be very helpful. The examples are diverse so I think there is a great deal for more experienced activits to learn as well. The only drawback of this book is that it focuses only on domestic issues. For those whose causes are on the international level as well as the domestic level would find that to be the only draw back. Still, this is a useful book with great examples and ideas that any activist could use and relate to their own campaign.

Great for Students
This textbook is awesome for serious students who would really like to graspe latin better. It contains the answer key to all the exercises as well as tips for teachers on presenting the material. If you own the student edition, consider the teacher's guide to help you along your way!

A teacher's teacher!
As a Latin tutor with over three years experience with teaching this language, and several years of learning it, this text was a surprise. Not only did it offer me better ways to use the Cambridge readers with my pupils, it also provided me with new information that I found interesting for myself. This manual combines grammar with the easy learning tool of an ongoing storyline, as well as providing application skills and ideas, with some baitable history as well. It helps me not only teach my students better but keep them wanting to learn. Anyone looking forward to teaching, or even learning, this language, should most certainly have this book close at hand.

Real-world examples of how concerned citizens *can* prevail
The real-world examples of how concerned citizens *can* prevail in social change struggles make Randy Shaw's latest activism book an inspiring read. Not only that, each chapter is an exciting tale of activist suspense and pathos. There's even humor when we read how some corporate executives are so egomaniacal that they manage to make perfect jackasses out of themselves in an attempt to deflect attention from their corruption and hypocrisy. The emerging field of Internet activism is also covered. Another great activism book from Randy Shaw!

Tanith Lee's BEST
Tanith Lee weaves tales of demons and mortals in ways that are familiar, yet with such singular and unexpected twists that even the most well-read fan of this genre will find her work refreshing. The entire Flat Earth series is at once terrible and wonderful. What is it like to be the Prince of Demons? What would happen if a mortal suddenly was given immortality? What would the Prince of Darkness do if suddenly he had no humans to torment, much as he might despise them? All these are questions that Lee is not afraid to pose through her characters from commoners to kings; from demons to gods so strange we can scarce comprehend them. With powers of description that are as evocative as Joseph Conrad's, and with the ability to paint characters in the style of a Charles Dickens, she spins a tapestry of events that binds these series of self-standing tales into a marvelous whole. Is it any wonder I highly recommend her work? Get all five of the Flat Earth series. If you are like me, you will find yourself reading them time and again.

High fantasy at its most rich and beautiful.
"Night's Master" is the first of Tanith Lee's "Flat Earth" series, but it is a complete novel in itself. Told in the form of a series of short stories that intertwine, it tells the tale of the demon Azhrarn, who loves to torment mankind, but when they are threatened, submits to at least a temporary death to save them. The prose in this tale is so rich it may be fattening. It is a sensuous pleasure to read aloud.

One of the all time best books I've ever read!
Night's Master was my first introduction to Tanith Lee nearly ten years ago and ever since I have been addicted to her work. Her writing is beautiful and seductive filled with lush imagery and descriptions that will have you longing to enter the pages of her novels. This is not your typical "fantasy" novel. It is powerful and moving and unlike anything else I have ever read. Of all of Tanith Lee's books, I would recommend the Flat Earth series and The Silver Metal Lover as the best. They never fail to transport me to another world, and really isn't that the great joy of reading novels?

Good strategies, but where's the democracy?
Good advice especially re: dealing with the press, lawyers, and applying strategy. Would have liked to see a lot more about getting social change organizations to really involve their members in running the organization- its still "Tales of the Super Organizer" a model activists need to outgrow and are already outgrowing.

A must read for activists
This book is absolutely essential reading for any activist. The author, who is a successful activist himself, covers everthing you need to know to get your cause "out there" where people (and especially decision-makers) will see the importance of your issue and choose to do something about it.

If you are an activist that wants to be both efficennt and effective, I would highly suggest reading this book

Essential reading for serious social-change activists
This book provides concrete examples of how grassroots social change organizations are either successful or unsuccessful in reaching their goals. Case studies of actual campaigns are presented and particular strategies are analyzed in various fields of activism. Legislative strategy, ballot initiatives, direct action and dealing with the media are all presented. Compelling reading and very rewarding, this book is also the activism Bible of the adult adoptee-rights organization Bastard Nation.
