A Must Read
This workbook is a MUST. It is a workbook related to abuse and can help anyone who has been through trauma and going through the healing process. I have done some of the exercises by myself and some in a small group. I strongly recommend this workbook. I have a hard time putting the book down between exercises, because I truely feel that this book is helping me cope.

"It Happened" helped me
I am a teenager and read this book because a friend recommended it to me. She had read about it in Seventeen magazine and knew that it related to some things I've been through. The exercises made me think about the past in a good way - a way that helped me see that I can be a good person no matter what I've been through. The psychologist who wrote this book knows teenagers. I felt like he knew me and knew just what I needed to work through my issues. Also, I loved the quotes from teenagers that were scattered through the book. If you need help working through sexual abuse, It Happened To Me can help you too.

All teen and young adult survivors need this workbook
This workbook is just excellent! I have trouble putting it down! It manages to be relevant to a wide variety of teens, without being too technical, too cutesy, or too preachy. Each exercise is short (2-3 pages) but challenging. There are also quotes from teen survivors and sidebars that point out problem behaviors common in abuse survivors without being judgmental. As a college student, I'm a little too old to be the intended audience of this book (all the teens mentioned in here are between the ages of 13-18), but as someone who still has to deal with her parents on a regular basis, I appreciated that lots of the exercises here dealt with family matters under the assumption that you're still living and dealing with your family, something that's not in many of the adult books. Guys might not like that pretty much all the pronouns are "she" and "her", but otherwise it's still a very relevant book for every teen survivor. It can be completed by yourself, in a group, or as part of therapy. Topics covered include emotions and emotional manipulation, keeping secrets, impulsive behaviors, how to get along with other people, sex, suicide, and commitment to recovery. The emphasis is not on "name your disorder" but on returning to emotional health. Even if you have to make a secret trip to the bookstore and hide this book in the back of your closet, it's worth it.

A true gift to living life joyfully
I was led to buying this book several years ago. I kept reading it and due to the "abstract" nature of the concepts on polarities and oneness, it serves as easy reading and fits into whatever I am experiencing in life. There are so much truth, insights and enlightenment in the content and that every time I read it, I got something new that I can truly apply to my life.

It is a pity that this is her only book - the first and the last but I was lucky to have come across this one when I was in Hawaii.

Learn How to truly live Heaven and Earth here and now.
Heaven and Earth is a beautiful, inspirational book to give to a special friend or as a special gift for yourself. It is a philosophical approach to living a creative, joyful life.

If you have been feeling stressed or out of balance in your life, this book will give you a calming, supportive perspective. It will change the way you look at life and your personal relationships. You will realize that you do not "live you life, but life lives you".

Lee Williams writes about the joy of life -- which always comes from within -- not from the outside. She tells you how you choose your experiences. If you focus your energy, attention and passion on that which you wish to create, you will manifest it.

Unconditional love allows you complete freedom to the degree to which you express it. You have complete free will to experience and to accept the responsibility of your choices in life. Freedom is a natural state. Anything less is a self-created limitation you have placed upon yourself by your limiting belief.

If you have been looking for growth of consciousness, this book is so clearly, yet lovingly written to give you the tools. It helps you to develop compassion and love for yourself.

Heaven and Earth is a tool for balancing. It grounds us in our daily lives, while connecting with our Higher Self--that we might truly live Heaven on Earth here and now. You will learn to live more lightly, allowing light and life to move through you easily, you will experience much joy, love and peace in your lives.

The best book I've ever seen on Staff fighting and training.
Grandmaster Cheung has written yet another good book in his long list of authorship. Not just a weapons manual, this book shows training and the form for the weapon, as well as the history of it and various techniques for its use. I enjoyed this book immensely, and I can do nothing else for it except give you the guarantee that if you buy it, you won't walk away angry.

A great Reiki book!
William Lee Rand has managed to write a Reiki book that is both spiritual and practical. His reference to the sourse of Reiki and the higher power, the need for compassion and it's relationship to healing helps us remember the real purpose of healing.

The fact that he has studied with so many different teachers from different lineages has given him a very broad understanding. You can sense the respect he has for all Reiki people and the fact that he promotes harmony in the Reiki community is very important to the health and well being of all of us involved with Reiki.

At the sametime, it is a very practical and down to earth Reiki book. He has done research in Japan and also taken classes from Japanese Reiki masters so that his Reiki information is based on facts and on original information from Japan, rather than second hand information that has wandered from the original intent of Reiki. He also includes all the hand positions for both self and others and important information on the Japanese Reiki Techniques that were taught by Dr. Usui and the Hayashi Healing Guide which are really necessary if one is to understand how Dr. Usui practiced Reiki. He has also provide very helpful information on developing your Reiki practice and becoming a Reiki master which I have found useful in getting my practice started. It also includes some of the best information on the Reiki symbols I have found.

This book is one of the clearest and easist to understand of all the Reiki books I have read. I truely feel that he comes from the heart and has done his best to create a very helpful and informative Reiki manual.

Excellent course manual
I highly recommend this book to all Reiki Masters, and to those students who feel like their Reiki I and/or II training lacked depth and clarity. I have to disagree with the previous few reviewers who slammed the book for being too oriented towards the author's healing center. The book has pages and pages of diagrams of hand positions, both for self-treatment and the treatment of others, useful articles on how to develop your own Reiki practice, updated history on where Reiki comes from, a chapter on how to use the symbols (and very few books show the actual symbols, so if you want the symbols then buy the other books), as well as good general information on what Reiki is. It does have one chapter on the author's school of teaching, so you can just skip that chapter if it doesn't interest you. And it does have a "catalog" of items you can buy from his Center...but it is in the appendix where it belongs. And throughout the manual he stresses that Reiki is open to all and it isn't required that you go to his Center for training. He simply offers his Center as a resource if you want it. He also shares a list of related books that have nothing to do with him or his Center. This book is a valuable resource. Not a be-all/end-all for Reiki, but the best manual for Reiki I and II that you will find anywhere! I use it for my classes and I am not affiliated with the author or his Center. It is also not the only book on Reiki that I own. This is just a great place to get a strong foundation of information in a few pages.

An excellent resource for students, teachers and the curious
I find Reiki the Healing Touch by William Rand to be an indispensable tool in my teaching practice. I have been practicing Reiki for ten years and teaching Reiki classes all around the world for six years. The manual is written clearly, which makes it easy for beginning practitioners to understand this healing art, or to help those who are simply curious about Reiki to develop an awareness of how Reiki can be applied to their life. As a teacher, this manual is a lifesaver for me. It contains all the elements I need to provide instruction in Reiki levels I & II. This minimizes the necessity for students to do extensive note-taking, and allows them more time in class for experiential learning. Mr. Rand is well known for his investigative nature, and it is through his diligent research and networking with other dedicated Reiki Masters that new light was shed on the history of Reiki. This book includes a comprehensive and documented history section, that brings new light to Usui Sensei's true intent for the use of Reiki. It replaces some of the myth with factual historical information. The story of the author's personal journey to Usui Sensei's tomb and his experiences on the holy mountain of Kurama bring life to the history. The many uses for Reiki and the symbols are clearly explained, as well as what Reiki is and how it heals. The hand positions for treating self and others are well illustrated. The treatment documentation form included in the book is a useful tool for practitioners, and helpful for clients in understanding their healing process. There is also useful information on developing a Reiki practice and informative material on how Reiki is being used in hospitals. Reiki the Healing Touch, in this revised and expanded version, is a must for any serious Reiki practitioner or teacher.

Some might find it useful
The "truth" about William Cheung is probably somewhere in the middle, between Boztepe's rabid rant and others' overstated praise. I read this book after just a few months of studying Wing Chun, and personally found his photos and descriptions impossible to follow. For one thing, your Sifu will probably teach at least a slight variation from Cheung's chum kil; Cheung's claim that his version is exactly as taught by Yip Man is probably false. Any Sifu worth his salt will provide his own unique interpretation of each form. Second, unless you already know Wing Chun maneuvers inside and out, it is impossible to learn a three-dimensional form from a two-dimensional sequence of pictures. As the title suggests, this book is probably best for advanced students who wish to compare their own techniques with another's.

One thing Boztepe has right is that Cheung's claims of being the sole successor to Yip Man are a crock. Many masters claim that, and none of them are correct. Can't they all just get along?

Excellent book in TWC
If you are a student of TWC (Cheung's Wing Chun) This book is highly recommended. It reinforced what you have learned in Class and provides a handy reference.

Excellent Reference and Learning Resource!!!
As an instructor of William Cheung's art of Traditional Wing Chun, I find this book to be a useful resource tool for all my students. In fact, it is required reading material. Although it is difficult to learn any martial art solely from books and tapes, such tools are indispensable in both documenting the unique qualities of a particular style and providing specific techniques and sequences for training purposes. Advanced Wing Chun presents for the first time in print the Cham Kil, or Chum Kiu, intermediate form as passed down from 5th Generation Grandmaster Leung Jun to William Cheung via Leung Bik and Yip Man. Other useful sections include various single-handed and double-handed Chi Sau techniques and drills as well as sections on this lineage's unique footwork and combat techniques. This book is a MUST for all Wing Chun enthusiasts of any family line!

If you like examples without explanation...
This book makes a decent reference guide, or a hypothetical fight comparison, but there isn't much that can be personally gained from it. It is divided into five chapters: stances, hands, kicks, tactics, and self defense. There is a woefully inadequate into paragraph for each chapter, then the rest is filled with "what-if?" situation counters. This book does a poor job of explaining the REASONS Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do are different and simply shows you what ted wong and william cheung would do in an assortment of fighting situations. Also, it is important to note that Ted Wong practices JUN FAN, not JKD. Some of his counters are hopelessly outdated. For example, an attacker stabs with knife [angle 7] and he does an INSIDE CRESCENT KICK to deflect it. Is he the Flash? The material in this book might be okay to play around with a friend, but I'd rather apply the money towards paying an instructor: you cannot learn JKD (even Jun Fan) or Wing Chun from a book.

Book to basic
This book was very disapointing, and misleading. Like for example wing chun has no high kicks but you will see one in this book. enough said

A good reference book on Ted Wong's JKD
The purpose of this book is to compare the basics of JKD as taught by Ted Wong with the basics of Wing Chun, and it obviously fulfils that purpose wholly. But I bought it for the very clearly-written descriptions and less clear black & white photos of JKD. The section on stances & footwork is particularly good, I think. Of course it is true that one cannot learn martial arts from a book, but that is not this book's purpose -- it is a reference work. One important point to note, though, is that there is a lot about JKD trapping (larp sao, pak sao, etc.) in the book, but Ted Wong has, as far as I am aware, since stopped teaching trapping very willingly as he (and many others) says that trapping will not work in a real fight, or even in proper sparring.

A misnomer
William Cheung's reputation has the reputation of an excellent martial artist but I was disappointed by this book. My main problem was I bought this book for Chi training - the contents aren't really useful for this though.

The book is around 200 pages; most of this is basic Wing Chun forms, blocks and strikes. The most complex issue it deals with is a photographic account of the first WC form and you can't help but feel this is included to try and pad out a book which has no real content on Chi training.

A useful reference for WC basics but useless if you're after "How to develop Chi power".

Ok, as far as it goes
William Cheung's books are not as much instruction manuals, as they are student notebooks, to be used to help remember detailed instruction. "How To Build Chi Power" is indeed a misleading title, as there are only a few chi exercises, and the bulk of the book is taken up with the form Sil Lum Tao.
What you get: The direction in which Chi is supposed to flow when performing Sil Lum Tao.
What you don't get: How to start feeling chi. How to build chi up to substantial levels, where you can actually feel it flow or use it to power your movements. Why or how during some of Sil Lum Tao movements, chi/energy flows contrary to the physical movement itself.
In short, useful if you're an intermediate to advanced Wing Chun student, useless for finding out about Chi if you're not. Personally, I like the simplicity of the Sil Lum Tao form for building up chi, but I've tapped very different sources to come this far - mainly teachings about Tai Chi.

Chi power as it relates to Wing Chun Kuen
This book is not for someone wanting general information and basic chi kung exercises. This book details the flow of chi in doing the first form of Wing Chun, the Sil Lum Tao form. Briefly describes chi meridians, five element theory, and some other chinese medical ideas. Good section on breathing and self massage of some important acupoints on the arms that stimulate the organs through their respective channels. Shows proper Wing Chun blocks and strikes, showing transitional movements and direction of energy. Demonstates complete Sil Lum Tao form, showing chi direction. Ends with a chapter on chi sao techniques and applications. A great book for those interested in Wing Chun, has the best description of the Sil Lum Tao I've seen, compared to about 5 other books. If you want a chi kung book, don't buy this, get Way of Energy by Lam, or his other book, Chi Kung.

how can i write a book
what does it take to put a book together and get an exhibition done at a regional museum, with funding from a major foundation? apparently nothing. this book does nothing to further the cause of art and artists of the south. why doesn't somebody do a good survey book on self-taught art? and why does the university of mississippi press publish every book on self-taught art? black folk art 1930-1980 was a decent book on a then emerging field, but that was done in 1981. that was almost twenty years ago. and here we are in the year 2000, and no one has done a book that is any better than that. there is great art out there by these talented artists, there must be someone out there with half a brain to do a good book. when they do, email me and i'll buy it. i wonder if because the artists are self-taught, someone out there thinks it is cute to let elementary school students write about them. much of the art is very sophisticated and cerebral, and it is time the scholarship in this field rises to the level of quality that the art deserves.
