Field Brings Anatomy to Life
I found this book in the library and kept renewing over, finally deciding to purchase it. I learned Gross Anatomy in medical school this year, but found it difficult to translate what I saw in dissections back to the live person. This book does a beautiful job explaining relationships in surface anatomy with color photos and hand drawings. It includes relationships with arteries, nerves and joints. Most beneficual are the explanations of how to actually palpate the structures in physical exam. This is an excellent resource for medical students.

Rose Without a Thorn
This is an awesome book, I'd reccomend it to anyone who is interested in Tudor times or Kathryn Howard. We're all so lucky it came back into print! This book weaves a rich tapestry of romance, polotics in Tudor times, and other such subjects. Read it quickly.

THE FIFTH WIFE OF HENRY VIII...
In this, the final novel in her "Queens of England" series of books, the author weaves a tapestry of political intrigue, romance, and historical detail into the story of young Katherine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII. A masterful storyteller, the author, who also writes under the name Victoria Holt and has a cavalcade of devoted readers, creates a work of historical fiction that will transport the reader to another time.

The book details the rise and fall of Katherine Howard, a young, impoverished noblewoman of an illustrous family. As a young girl, she was sent to live with her grandmother, the Duchess of Norfolk, where she, unfortunately, fell in with a licentious group of retainers and became ensnared in two unsuitable affairs of the heart. Little did she know that they would serve to haunt her a way she could never have imagined.

An opportunity, orchestrated by her Machiavellian and ambitious uncle, the Duke of Norfolk, arises for the beautiful, though foolish, Katherine to go to the Royal Court as Lady -In-Waiting to the fourth wife of Henry VIII, the kindly Anne of Cleves. Katherine obligingly goes. There, she falls in love with her cousin, Thomas Culpepper, a gentleman of the King's Bed Chamber. Her hopes of marriage to her handsome cousin are soon dashed, however, when she catches the wandering eye of the King, who loathes his current wife.

Having charmed the King and having little say in the matter, Katherine becomes his fifth wife, once he divorces Anne of Cleves. Katherine's initial happiness as Queen is cut short, however, when her lurid past comes to light and is brought to the King's attention. This, coupled with her indiscretions with Thomas Culpepper, are enough to abruptly terminate her brief reign over England as its Queen and cause a number of heads, including hers, to roll.

This is an intriguing blend of fact and fiction, which is laced with enough historical detail to satisfy those readers who enjoy historical fiction. It is with good reason that the author has a legion of devoted readers.

I Die A Queen...
This was a completely awesome book! I'd recomend it to anyone.

I read it when I was studying Kathyrn Howard for a report for school. I wasn't expecting much at all, but I got an awesome book.

I plan to buy it next moth when it comes back into print.

Against All Odds: The Lucy Scott Mitchum Story
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (1900)
Author: Barbara Riefe
Amazon base price: $13.85
Average review score:

A terrible book about the Gold Rush.
"Against All Odds: The Lucy Scott Mitchum Story" is about an extremely interesting topic - the Gold Rush and how families packed up what they could fit into a covered wagon and begin a new life in states which offered wealth and prosperity - but this story was very dull and mundane. At points, the story dragged on and on and then a split second later, it jumped ahead ten days with a brief paragraph about what happened. With barely any dialogue, diary entries, or letters, this novel only described feelings and events. The ending came too fast and was too short, compared to the rest of the book and seemed very unrealistic to me. I was very disappointed - I do not recommend.

A Woman Leaves Her Home
This easy-to-read novel chronicles the movement of Lucy Scott Mitchum across the prairies and through the wilds and over the mountains to her new home in the Sacramento Valley. Although this is not a scholarly work, it is a realistic rendering of the worries and problems facing a woman moving West in a troubling times. What I liked best about this book is that far from painting these immigrants with the usual "hero" paintbrush and making them bigger that life, Barbara Riefe was able to make them human beings with all the failings that that entails. Her Lucy Scott Mitchum made love, worried about friendships, worried about her child, and loved her husband, even though she did not think he was infalable. Just as in real life, there was not an entirely happy ending, but not an entirely unhappy one either. I look forward to Barbara Reife's further books

A woman's journey by covered wagon in 1849.
Lucy Mitchum was not happy when her husband Noah decided they would sell their house in Baltimore, take their four year old daughter, and travel in a covered wagon to California, where Noah hoped to find gold. But even Lucy knew it was hard to make a living in the east, so she agreed to the plan. But it will take all of Lucy and Noah's courage to survive the difficult journey intact. I am 13 and I enjoyed this book a lot, even though it was an adult book.

Paint yourself wild then get out the sandblaster....
The kids loved the book and the paint, But......
The face paint that comes with the book will not wash off.
We tried cold cream, soap & water, handiwipes, alcohol etc.
This book should be banned.

Great book, but the paint isn't so great
My 3-year-old animal obsessed daughter loves this book! Each animal has a spread with information about the animal and even a section on how to act like the animal. The only drawback is the actual face paint. It's very thick and difficult to get on the paintbrush that comes with it. It also takes a lot of scrubbing to wash it off. I'd buy the book again, but I'd definitely buy some different face paint to use with it.
