Schwartz covers a huge area--from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean to all of South America--with his perusal of over 300 films, including U.S. and Chicano co-productions. He seeks to promote the films themselves of that "uncertain screen," Latin American cinema, "seen film by film." Using the original press books, the author presents in a terse, well-written introduction, a brief history of L.A. film and then examines the credits, plot, gives his own critical view as well as fascinating notes about the film, its production, actors and other multi-faceted aspects of Third World cinema. Besides a useful Chronology, the films are organized alphabetically, with 70 interesting stills interspersed, a note on video sources and availability (mostly VHS), a short bibliography and a bi-lingual index. The book is most useful because of its "panoramic" view and its lack of intellectual pretention. He surveys his subject for a wide audience and provides much new information for the uniniated stude

NOIR: NOW AND THEN is an exceptional book of film ommentary. Even if you are only mildly interested in fil noir, you will find it fascinating, enlightenig and entertaining, as the author brilliantly compares the differences between original film noir and its modern counterpart. Schwartz not only knows the dark heart of noir, but also ts calculating brain as well as its occasional funny bone. NOIR: NOW AND THEN would be a most valuable addition to any collection of film studies.

This book is an excellent introduction to the differences between classic film noir (1940-1960) and neo noir (post 1960). Schwartz does this by comparing classic film noirs which were later remade as neo-noirs. If you enjoy this film genre, you will find this tome a real treat. Recommended by all means.

This book is not only a classic, but it is being updated by the author in a new edition that will cover the years 1990-2000!

A nice collection of artists, with some great examples of what they can do. But....
Paper stock is poor and some prints are a bit blurry.

This is a great artbook, featuring many famous furry artists. I love the art, and look at it regularly. If you're a fan of Michele Light, I recommend it.

This book started my physical collection of furry publishings, and still remains the best singal pice I have. Not only is it perfectaly published, but contains excellent examples of anthropomorphic artwork. Its my personal bible.
