An excellent novelization.
If you are familiar with the movie that this book was based on, I will say that this is one of the most faithful novelizations of a movie that I've ever seen; almost every scene from the movie is included, and most of the dialogue is faithfully kept as well. Ms. McIntyre satisfies her creative urge by filling in gaps in the storyline, adding internal dialogue and insight into the characters' thoughts as well as transitional scenes that further explain and clarify the storyline.

If you are not familiar with the movie, there are a few quibbles you might have with the story, but for my money, the quibbles are all things that originated in the movie, and that Ms. McIntyre is not responsible for: the running gag of Kirk attempting to "fit in" to 20th century society by cursing, which he does clumsily, and Spock's even more clumsy attempts to follow Kirk's lead. I'm not certain whether this was supposed to be purely a humorous bit, or whether it was supposed to be a comment on how silly vulgarity makes one look, and how foolish it is to try to fit in in that way. If it was intended for humor value, its humor wore thin very quickly, and if it was intended for the latter purpose, I'm not sure that it was effective. But in any case, that, as I say, is not Ms. McIntyre's fault; it was part of the movie that she was working from. Similarly, any part of the plot that referred back to the previous movie, and Spock's tenuous grip on his memories as a result of being recently "reborn", do not sit well with me (see my review of "The Search For Spock" for my objections to that movie/book) but again, this is not the author's fault. I also do not believe that a bit of ambient radiation causes malfunctions in phasers, as happens in one scene, but the same disclaimer of responsibility applies.

On its own merits, and outside of the consideration of how well it remains faithful either to the movie it was based on, or the Star Trek universe in general, or the previously established characters, this book is still quite good, and better able to stand on its own as a Science Fiction Action-Adventure novel than most Star Trek books, and it also does a better job of faithfully portraying the known characters than many. And as I said, it does a marvellous job of faithfully depicting the story from the movie while building on it plausibly and believably. All in all, by almost any measure I care to use, it is a very good book.

FUnny
I liked it because it really helped to put the movie into prospective.

A real action filled, Sci-Fi Story
I believe that this story was the best that the Series of star trek books has. Great ending and begining. I especially enjoyed the time travel that goes into this. A very good book.

Say "Thanks to Gracie". Thanks to Gracie!
Rarely do I ever laugh out loud while reading - Geogrge made me.
Rarely do I ever get teary eyed while reading - George made me.

I've always enjoyed the work of Burns & Allen and always planned on reading this book - when I finally did I was gald that I did. I don't need to get into the historical account of thier carrer or what a wonderful, natural talent Gracie was - I'll leave that to George. But George's "comic valentine" to/about Gracie is a wonderful, heartwarming read. You can hear George reading the words to you (actually you really can if you have the audiocasette version - I'm puffing on my cigar) with his dry wit and great delivery.

If you admire Gracie or George you'll enjoy this read.
Next up.... ALL MY BEST FREINDS by George.

An Excellent Love Story
I just finished reading this for about the 3rd time or so, each time coming away with a different perspective. George's lifetime devotion to Gracie is very moving and you can't help but smile when you think of the 2 of them up there making everyone laugh. I recently picked the book up again at an infamous bargain book store, my original copy I'd lent out years ago & it was never returned. One of the best showbiz books in print, and one of the funniest books you'll ever read. There'll never be anyone like George & Gracie, not in this lifetime. Highly recommended.

George and Gracie
This is a wonderful book. Many autobiographies can lean toward the dull side, but I zipped through this one... and had a good hardy laugh on almost every page. George Burns tells the story of Gracie (his wife and side-kick) with humor and sincerity, with his devotion beaming from the pages. The book is also an intriguing history of vaudeville and Hollywood life as seen from his eyes. All sorts of characters make an appearance in this telling of his experiences -- such as Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, the Marx Brothers, Jack Benny, Cary Grant and many others. Also, if you are a lover of entertainment trivia, this is full of information that you can amaze your friends with. :)

A wonderful book that excites, delights, & opens imagination
The Adventures of Superman authorized by George F. Lowther is a highly recommended book for children and adults of all ages. It brings forth a realistic fictional plot. Superman "The Man of Steel", was the first of its kind to be written about in comics, and has amazed the many people who have read his daring rescues and his incredible feats against the most powerful supervillians. This book summerizes him as a child adult and as a reporter, as well as Superman. This book describes his first mystery, his first news article, and his first appearance as Superman.

EXCELLENT book!
This is easily one of the best Superman books written. Clark Kent, as well as Superman, are heroic, classic, and timeless. I recommend this book (if you can find it) to anyone who enjoys a story from a time when heroes were HEROES, not super-powered people instead of heroes.

Please don't be fooled by the cover...
This has got to be one of the best books I have ever read. I took one look at the cover, and laughed... but then I opened and thumbed a few pages... and ended up renting it from my local library. There's something to be said about a book that can have you toting it around all day just so you can read it again at the very next chance you get. But it does. Some may not enjoy the slow pace of the story, but you should wish that the plots in the comics were this good. If you ever, and I mean EVER have the chance to pick this book up, I suggest you do so.
