The best cookbook ever
If you enjoy tasting the finest of foods that have been all time traditional favorites and you want to know how to prepare them yourself, this cookbook is for you. This book opens up the doors of cooking and makes you an instant expert. Contains the best chili and fried chicken you can imagine. I create 11 to 13 different pies every holiday and the pies comes from recipes right here. People think I am the best cook around, I wouldn't be without this book. The soups will imspire you to not only learn how to create these soups but come up with inventions of your own. Seriously, this book is a must have for someone that really wants to learn how to cook and needs a great recipe that will inspire them to continue. I have a whole library of cookbooks but this is my favorite one and the one that gave me the encouragement to make cooking my hobby. The chicken frickase is the all time best chicken recipe in the world. Make that and mashed potatoes and corn and you will have any man coming back for more.

One of the best in the series
I have all the series of "The Beautiful Cookbooks" and the America and the Mexico one I believe are among the best ones.

Beautiful, Sad Poems
It is always so difficult to way what makes a poem a good poem. Like all fine poems, these should be read again and again rather than explicated. Mr. Schultz writes about everyday things-- a dog's marking his territory, an answering machine, playing solitaire. He is a master of understatement. In the moving poem "Darwin, Sweeping" about an apartment superintendent, Mr. Schultz says "Bernice, his wife of fifty-one years, died last week/and that's why he's sweeping the steps, the walk, the street too." Those lines are just as poignant as Emily Dickinson's "the bustle in a house the morning after death." So many memorable lines in these poems-- how about "before Christ discovered America"? Or a mulatto who committed suicide is described as "born only half out of luck."

There are three related poems apparently written about the poet's mother, "Alzheimer's," "Nomads," and "Apartment Sale" that go straight to the heart. I read them recently while visiting my 83 year old mother as she wandered from room to room looking for something she had just lost-- and found-- and lost again.

These are indeed beautiful, sad poems.

A rare find
This book is one of those rarities that can delight passionate history buffs, professional historians, serious field explorers, and armchair travelelers alike. The authors have skillfully drawn on nearly every worthwhile source on King Philip's War to create a fascinating and readable text. What's really great, though, is the photos, maps, and place descriptions. You might live over 350 years later and most of a continent away but they still give you a strong sense of "being there" during one of the greatest white-Indian showdowns of American history.

Great History, Great Travelogue
I read the book. Then I read Mr. O'Keefe from Denver's review. The only thing I can think is that Mr. O'Keefe's edition was missing the first 80 pages. Those pages contain the best, most concise and "logical" history of the war available. After that the book becomes a travelogue (Mr. O'Keefe: a "collage") structured geographically that the Boston Globe raved about. All of the "detail" Mr. O'Keefe complained about allowed me to visit a half dozen of the sites that I would never have been able to find otherwise. If you want an unstructured collage beyond most amateur historians, read Lepore's book. If you want to understand King Philip's War, I would recommend this book (Schultz/Tougias) highly.

This is a book that you just cannot put down
In living King Philip's war through the words of the author, this book put articulate reality into an historical time while capturing my interest from page 1. This book was well researched and written with a vision that portrayed places and events of no other book I have read. I highly recommend this book - FIVE STARS
