A family favourite!
I bought this for my second daughter when she was 10 months old, it quickly became her all time most loved book, and her 2 year old sister loved to read it with her. Now with a new baby in the family my now 2 year old and 3 1/2 year old still love it, and read along with it. They also now know to find the reason that their little brother is crying - does he want to play, feed, sleep etc. It is easy to read, discuss and involve your children in.

Great Classroom Read Aloud!
"What shall we do with the boo-hoo baby?"
This book is hilarious, sure to make any 3, 4, or 5 year old laugh (and adults too)! Most young children are fascinated with both babies and farm animals, put them both together and you have a delightful, humorous story. The repetetive/predictable text in this book makes it a must have for all Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers. I am including this book in my lesson plans for my unit on Families, but it could easily be used for the Farm unit as well.

WONDERFUL!
I love this book and so does my 19mo old daughter. We read it before every nap and at bedtime too. She will ask for it by name. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is so cute. It is a great book for kids who have younger siblings as it helps to explain why a baby cries and how parents respond. I highly recommend this book!

Pregnancy Loss: a Silent Sorrow
Published in Paperback by Hodder & Stoughton Educational Division (16 June, 1994)
Authors: Ingrid Kohn, Perry-Lynn Moffitt, and Rosie Barnes
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Read this book to survive
Just don't know what to do?
Hate yourself, your partner, happy pregnant women, even God?
Then you should read this book.

This book have everything you need to know after Pregnancy loss
(including termination of impaired pregnancy), Still bitrh, Newborn death.
Medical information, of course, this book will tell you how to
deal with the response of your partner, family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.

A helpful chapter "Finding solace in your religion" covers
Jewish traditions, Islamic traditions, Catholic traditions,
Protestant traditions and Mixed religions.

This is the first thing you should read after a loss...
...and then you should keep it and read at the holidays, at the anniversary of your loss, at the anniversary of your baby's due date, and any other time you need to understand the experience of losing a baby. If you have a friend or relative who has experienced a pregnancy loss, send her (or him) a copy of her own. No other book covers such a wide range of medical, phyical and emotional experiences that surround pregancy loss. I should know -- after the stillbirth of my first daughter, I read everything in print about pregnancy loss. I just read the recently revised edition, and was happy to see that it increased information about the kinds of losses that so many women are experiencing in this age of high-tech infertility treatments, and that Kohn and Moffitt are dead-on about the complex range of emotions women and their partners undergo. Combining deep wisdom about ageless issues of parenthood and grieving with the often terrifying new territory of high tech childbearing, this is a book that will touch many lives.

The definitive book on pregnancy loss
For anyone who has had the sadness to suffer the loss of a child, A SILENT SORROW is THE definitive book to own. It is not only written for the Mother and Father, but grandparents, siblings, friends and health care professionals. It's section on dealing with your loss, understanding the devastation of the grief and coping with it were instrumental in helping me deal with the loss of my daughter, who was stillborn at nine months. I read it, and reread it - sometimes daily - because it provided the comfort and support I needed. It also provides practical advice on creating services, coping with others, thinking about second pregnancies and anniversary reactions. I cannot say enough good things about this book, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sensitive and practical insight on the sad, and often little known subject of pregnancy loss.

Great Message!
With illustrations that make you want to step right into the picture, this book is a great telling of great classic for little kids. Sometimes I think we forget or don't realize just how powerful certain images and impressions we get from our early childhood books really are, and just how much they can impact our lives. My 4-year old adores this book. And what a great image for her to take through life - the realization that she might be hindered by fear of her own reflection.

Childrens books by Idries Shah build mental agility
[....] It's clear that we need to provide our kids - especially boys - with tools to counter the violence and knee-jerk aggression ubiquitous in popular culture. These children's stories by Idries Shah are just this kind of tool. They're not preachy. They don't offer simplistic lessons or moral platitudes. They're more like exercises for "mental muscle groups" grossly underdeveloped in this culture: A strong sense of one's own value. Empathy. Flexibility in thinking and responding. Appreciating that not everyone is the same, not every outcome is predictable. Seeing that there are more than two sides to a situation. A sense that patience and perseverance can pay off, sometimes in unexpected ways. Not demanding easy answers. A sense that things are not always as they seem, that the viewpoint of "experts" - or even the whole community - is not always right. The experience of seeing something that even adults don't see, of creating clever solutions. The sense that taking positive action is possible and rewarding-even when one has to buck the tide. That help can come from where and when we least expect it. The sense that life has interesting "loose ends" for us to reflect on. And so much more. At least one of these books should be on every child's book shelf.

The Lion Who Saw Himself in the Water
For 20 years I've delighted in the story collections of Idries Shah. I'm very pleased with his entire new series of children's books especially, "The Lion Who Saw Himself in the Water". As my wife and I read this story to young children in our family, we can see their eyes light up.

The kids strongly identify with all of the animals in the book, especially the lion as he overcomes his fears and learns something about his own individual identity. I have to confess that I've picked up the book several times and read it for my own enjoyment. It somehow soothes my mind after a tough day at the office.

You are not alone!
I definitely recommend this book! It is very encouraging. Susan strikes a good balance - she is real about the struggles and frustrations but she also presents encouragement through perspective, God's nature and perspective, and practical ideas. You feel like there is someone who knows exactly what you're going through as you read the book.

Perfect gift for moms!
I highly recommend this book to all my friends and have given it as a special "mommy" present. It is so easy to think you are alone in the highs and lows of mommyhood. This book didn't make me feel like a failure as a parent, like so many other parenting books do. Two thumbs up!

Terrific!!! A must have for mothers with young children!
Whether you're a stay at home mom or a mom who works outside the home, you will see yourself in this book. Right away in chapter two I practically said out loud "Hey, that's _me_ she's writing about!" Then Susan offers practical advice, encouragement, and best of all -- empathy! This book would make a great gift for someone who has kids ages 7 and under! Susan is also sensitive and doesn't make any judgments about moms who choose to stay home and moms who choose to have a career while their kids are little. How refreshing!!

This is a Breakthrough book
There are only a handful of books in my whole life that have made a significant difference-- causing a major shift - a growth spurt. A kind of book that as I read it and even after Im finished I must keep it with me at all times. THE ART OF EFFORTLESS LIVING is that kind of book.

It addressses Fear and identifies how we allow it to paralyze us in so many aspects of our life - work, relationships, health, etc. Dr. Bacci explains the significance of making friends with our Fear rather than having it be our enemy. Thus using Fear to our benefit - to live our lives effortlessly and to its fullest.

Dr. Bacci provides various exericises and techniques that actually result in the releasing of one's fears, thus living a life filled with energy and passion -- not anxiety.

Dr. Bacci's personal experience is incredibly inspiring in itself. As I reader - I feel fortunate she choose to share it. This book has made a major contribution to my life and to those who I have shared it with.

All the good stuff in life always was effortless.
My life had the usual struggles at work and with relationships from family to the clerk at the Motor Vehicle Department. Those struggles began to change as I read Effortless Living. I began to look at my relationship to the issues that I struggled with. I found that what I was doing that wasn't working was being generated by who I was being. If I was being fearful then I my words or behavior were skewed by the fear that was partnering my experience. Ingrid's book isn't a "how to change" book - rather it's an invitation to become present to what is happening. The awareness that has grown in me during my reading of Effortless Living has transformed my ability to wake up to my repetitive behaviors, see who I'm being and allow transformation to enter my life. The most positive outcome has been letting go of a successful career in New York and moving to Maui to begin a new life that is in line with who I (and my family have grown to be). Like all great teachers, Dr. Bacci doesn't tell us how to be - she leads us to the threshold of our own mind.

Effortless Living: A Loving Guide & Companion
Ingrid Bacci is a generous and talented writer. There is profound wisdom on every page, and it is delivered with the down to earth style of talking across the kitchen table, touching hands over coffee. Her journey from being a professionally successful academic to a loving healer - traveled on the road of a long and painful illness, divorce, and the ultimate need to find safe haven for her troubled soul and body, is an odyssey we can all share on any number of levels in our own lives. Pick a page, a chapter; there are revelations and loving guidance for yourself and everyone you know, illustrated with personal experience. Read this book - you'll want to buy a copy for everyone else in your life as well.

Herb Ritts: Work
I was mesmorized by this book! Herb Ritts has the ability to not ownly create a beautiful portrait, but to capture I personality of his models. Each photograph tells a fabulous story of fantasy, glamour, and often just everyday life. I would highly recommend this collection. Among my favorite celebrity photos: Johnny Depp on the set of Edward Scissorhands, Jim Carrey dressed as a Mermaid, Tom Cruise on the set of Mission Impossible 2, the tattooed arm of Axle Rose, and a mysterious grin by Roy Lichtenstein. These photos are also large enough (most are at least 8x10) to remove and frame.

Powerful Black & White Imagery
As an amateur photographer, I have always found Herb Ritts to be one of the greatest modern photographers living. Similiar to many celebrity photographers such as Richard Avedon, David LaChapelle, and Annie Liebowitz, Ritts captures the essence that is celebrity perfectly. Whether it is the photograph of Madonna and Sean Pean as a loving couple, or a gathering of today's top supermodels (all nude) Ritts has an eye for detail, as well as an approach few photographers nowadays don't utilize, direct communication with your subjects. In the past (and even in the present) celebrity photography can be a pain as many celebrities tend to want their agents around them whenever there is a shoot.

Many of Ritts photographs in this compilation happen to be of a homoerotic nature. Ritts, who is openly gay, captures the essence of male sexuality perfect, and the results can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their orientation.

I hope in the future Ritts comes out with another huge compilation of his work. His recent work with such celebrities such as Monica Lewinsky and Janet Jackson should be published in a volume, but for the meanwhile, purchase this book for your coffee table or library. It will make an interesting topic of conversation with anyone. Ritts is pure genius!

Nothing Short of Extraordinary...
It is excellent. Sensual, lyrical, erotic, powerful, sometimes whimsical and as hot as the Arizona sun. Ritts is America's Rennaisance photographer and his pictures and videos of Jan and Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cindy, Nicholson, etal, etal, are must-views in exhibit, too. His work is up there with contemporaries Leibowitz, Scavullo and helmut newton...you have got to see his work!

the fabulous flying fandinis.
this book is good because it has very nice pictures in it.
It shows you that trying new things can be fun if you do it with
a friend or two.And that you're never to old to have a good
time.It also show's that people aren't as strange as they
may seem to be at first.I think that children 4 to 7 would like this book because it's very exciting and fun to read. They
will also like to look at the pictures.

This is a great book
The art work is super, and I love the story line. The Fandinis are a hoot, and the message about trying something new is a good one for folks of all ages.

A Great Book
We have loved reading the Fabulous Flying Fandinis to our daughters and have made a habit of giving copies to all of our friends who have children. The artwork is quite simply extraordinary. It is so detailed and delightful that even parents will remain engaged after the umpteenth reading. The book abounds in good humor and high spirits and the message (don't give in to your fears) is related with such gentleness and optimism that kids don't even know they are receiving an important lesson for life. They're too busy having Fabulous Fandini Fun!

Where is the Revised Edition?
While this book is very well written, provides answers to many important questions, and the real life stories of women are particularly insightful, I am disappointed that I did not receive the "Revised Edition". I was specifically looking for the most up-to-date book available regarding gynecologic problems and placed an order for this book after reading excerpts from Dr. William Parker's web page "A Gynecologist's Second Opinion Online". I had read most of the book before reaching the question "If you need a hysterectomy, should you also have your ovaries removed?" Knowing that Dr. Parker had changed his opinion on that topic, it became apparent that I did not have the revised edition. As much as I enjoyed the book's format, I feel as though I was duped into buying an older book (the 1996 edition as opposed to the 2003 edition) that I would not have purchased otherwise. That said, I'll probably still shell out the extra bucks for the Revised Edition -- if I can find it soon!

Well-written, compassionate, easily understandable
While researching information on a personal health crisis I was facing, I happened to find Dr. William Parker's website, and ordered a copy of "A Gynecologist's Second Opinion". What a gift to the world of women's health! The book covers most reproductive health issues, such as fibroids, cysts, pap smears, cancer, surgical and non-surgical options. It is written in a question and answer format, so it was easy to find the information I needed. The information is clearly written and easy to understand, and contains numerous pen-and-ink drawings to further clarify the explanations. There is a sense of compassion toward woman's health that I hadn't found in many other books. I recommend this book to anyone who is confused about information they receive from their health care provider, to ob/gyns as a reference for their patients, and to any woman interested in her reproductive health.

Clearly-written, balanced, accurate and current information.
I was advised to have a hysterectomy and an oophorectomy even though I had no symptoms. I did a lot of research in medical and popular literature and found this book to be the best for the layperson. Regarding hysterectomies, the authors rationaly discuss the historical overuse and unnecessary reliance on the procedure without haranguing the reader or angrily attacking opposing views--a defect in a number of other books on the subject and which only serves to distract the reader from considering important facts. When necessary, the authors give their unequivocal medical opinion. When I sought a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic, the doctors there gave me the same advice I found in this book: don't have the surgery under my circumstances. I strongly recommend that any woman facing the same surgery decision I had to make to, as the book's subtitle says, take charge of your health, get a second opinion and read this book before you decide. The book also has a great deal of information about other women's health topics and it is now a permanent addition to my reference bookshelf.
