A Picture is Worth More Than a Thousand Words
We've Come This Far is an insider's inside look at a pillar of African American Christianity, Abyssinian Baptist Church. Bob Gore's skill as a photographer and his commitment to his faith are evident on each page of this lovingly crafted work. In some cultures in the world, taking a photograph of a person is looked at with trepidation because it is believed to be an attempt to capture the subject's soul. And that's exactly what Mr. Gore has done in this book and there is no need for fear. The pictures and accompanying essays capture real life/real time moments in the broad scope of the life and spirit of this historic church.

Superior Work
The rich and vibrant history of Abysinnian Church and the Harlem community is revealed in this work by Bob Gore. The photos are of such superior quality that you can feel the message conveyed in the picture without using the text. With the additon of text there is a wonderful account of the Harlem experience, chock full of information about the history and the individual personal expressions of those who were there when it happened. This photographic journal is vibrant and colorful in both word and image. There are real accounts of Abysinnian Baptist Church's history, including it's spiritual, political, social and economic relationships with the communities that it serves. I urge you to consider this book not just for reading but also as an important addition to your library.

The Guide to Association Management
Bob Harris and Cal Clemons combined four decades of experience running successful AMCs to create a publication that has been billed by some as a bible for analyzing, revamping, revitalizing and growing an Association Management company. In Building an Association Management Company, they share their secrets on everything from getting started, to business and marketing plans, to soliciting and serving clients, to what the future holds.

Highlights the realities of being an entrepreneur
Most people think that all they need is a great idea and they will be able to start a successful business. Professor Calvin outlines, step-by-step, the realities of being an entrepreneur, how you need to prepare, and what you can expect. Specifically, he gives links and resources for doing market research, tells you where and how to go looking for financing, and emphasizes the key control points you must set up and monitor in order to be one of the businesses that actually makes it.

I am a consultant to start-up businesses, refer to his book often, and recommend it to my clients.

Well Received by the Female Entrepreneur
Our team has started borrowing heavily from Calvin with our consulting focus on female entrepreneur clients.
Key suggested readings are the chapters dealing with writing an effective yet focused business plan and knowing key control points of your business.
We have just put this book on our suggested client reading list.

Bottomline - Profit Max Driven Results!
Gosh, I had almost given up reading "How To" books by Top B-School Professors!
University of Chicago Professor Robert Calvin actually writes a book that (while concisely dealing with strategic decisions) gets its head out of the trendy typical pie in the sky themes and goes straight to what drives the bottom-line of the firm!
However, It should be given a new title "Nuts and Bolts of the Entrepreneur" with subtitle "Do you have what it takes?"
I really liked the section on raising money. Calvin uses insider knowledge of the Venture Capital Trade to get directly to the point of where and where not to look for funds!
If you are serious about making money this book is for you. If you are looking for an easy million this book is not for you. This Book has little sympathy for the quick dollar schemes but is filled with enthusiasm for the nose to the grindstone types!

This is THE reference and guidebook
Calvin succinctly packages sales and sales management processes into this book in a way that enables the reader to PUT IT TO USE!! The references, lists, worksheets, and key points will be invaluable to you. Keep it in your briefcase to refer to on a daily basis - it has so many key points and reminders that you will find relevant pages to earmark to make you more effective against your day-to-day sales goals.

Highly Recommended!
Companies of the old and new economies often suffer the same ailment: sales teams that don't produce. Writer Robert Calvin tells sales managers what they must do to cure this disease. Calvin's book ' which is as concise as an effective sales pitch ' gives you a thorough blueprint for building or rebuilding your sales team. The book is filled with questionnaires and lists, including a sample performance evaluation and a rundown on what not to say to a potential hire. Calvin argues that managers often neglect training, which alone should take up 40% of their time. We [...] highly recommend this potential Bible for sales managers, which makes it clear that you must be more critical of your sales force's achievements in areas such as prospecting, closing and even personal demeanor. A word of warning: Calvin is as ruthless as 'The Weakest Link' television show in asserting that poor performers must be eliminated' and he doesn't even wink.

sales management
This book gives a new dimension how to increase the effectiveness of sales activities nowadays. W.Stanton and R. Spiro wrote a books-management of a sales force, which gives a very clear basic understanding of managing a sales force. But your book gives a new idea how to make the force more effective.

BEST Book on Rauschenberg, Johns, et al.
Incredibly informative. Thomkins provides excrutiating detail in the most interesting way. Never a dull moment. If you have any interest in Rauschenberg, Johns, Happenings, etc., then you should read this book. There is no way that you will walk away without learning MANY new things.

A fascinating insider's view of the New York art world
Lucky, lucky, lucky. That's how I felt after a friend lent me a copy of this out-of-print book. Here was a first hand chronicle of the New York art scene from the 50s to the 70s. Although Rauschenberg was the main artist featured, interesting vignettes about other artists were included, from Jasper Johns to Marcel Duchamp, from De Kooning to Andy Warhol. Did you know that it was Rauschenberg who influenced Jasper Johns to quit his bookstore job and go full-time into art? Rauschenberg's career is fascinating itself. Read and enjoy.

This is the best summary of Calvin's views of the atonement
This book is something of a breath of fresh (and refreshing) air in Calvin studies. Much debate has been (and still is) centered on whether or not Calvin taught a limited atonement (that Christ died only for some--the elect). While this is an important issue, Peterson wisely does not let it determine the course of his investigation and instead offers us the many facets of Calvin's understanding of the atonement. He begins with a chapters on the free love of God in Christ (the starting point), then the incarnation (the prerequisite) and the offices of Christ (prophet, priest & king). Following these introductory chapters, Peterson lays out (in prism-like fashioin) the myriad aspects of Christ's saving work. In sum, these are Christ as the obedient second Adam, the victor, our legal substitute, our sacrifice, our merit and our example. The book is a model of careful, cautious scholarship that refuses to be dogmatic where the evidence does not justify it. Additionally, the author is merciful to the reader by keeping this work (a revision of his Ph.D. dissertation) crisp, concise and cogent rather than attempting to be exhaustive (and exhausting). I suppose the highest praise I can give the book is that it stimulates the reader to want to read more in this area, and even more Calvin (which is really saying something)!

The only diet I understood and could keep.
I used this diet many years ago, I couldnt believe the results. The food was great and kept you intrested. You could also modify within the daily menu's and still get the results they had given you. I truly understood why the diet worked and what was happening to my body. After having my third child I will use this diet again to take off the wieght I gained. This book is so good that it should be the only diet book in store's. I am now purchings my third copy, my first was given to a good friend who has lost wieght and kept it off, and my 2nd copy looks as if it was in world war three and the pages are getting hard to read, my third copy I hope to seal in plastic, because it is my bible and keeps me feeling GREAT!!!! I have tryed all diets from starvation to the craziest new thing on the supermarket shelves, and nothing in mean NOTHING is as good as this book!!! Brigitte

The Calvinian Legacy of Ford Lewis Battles
This is a splendid collection of pieces by the late Ford Lewis Battles, one of the 20th century's premier Calvin scholars. Battles was the translator of the Library of Christian Classics edition of Calvin's '1559 Institutes' as well as translator of his '1536 Institutes.'

The pieces here have been gathered from Battles' contributions to scholarly literature on Calvin over a number of years. The value of the collection is that it places these hard to find pieces together in one convenient place. The two introductory essays convey the scope of Battles' contributions as a Calvin scholar.

Two of the most important essays in the collection should be noted. One is Battles', 'Calculus Fidei' in which he puts forth his view of the structure of Calvin's overall theology. This piece will be one with which Calvin scholars will interact for years to come.

The second piece on 'Accommodation' conveys one of the most imporant interpretive aspects of Calvin's thought. It has been an important piece in the years since it was published in drawing attention to the principle of accommodation as an interpretive tool in Calvin's understanding of divine revelation.

Editor Benedetto has done a masterful job in assembling these pieces, providing the helpful Battles' diagrams and producing an important resource for Reformation scholars as well as scholars of Calvin.

Ford Battles was my teacher and was a Calvin scholar without peer. It is a pleasure to commend this book with the highest commendation.
