Reviewed by an astronomy student
As an astronomy student at the University of Colorado, I have used "The Cosmic Perspective" as a text book for two of my classes (one on stars and galaxies, and one on the solar system). This book is perfect for both: the text is clear and full of insight; the illustrations and photographs are abundant and extremely professional, and they complement the text superbly; the sections called "Mathematical Insight" give the reader a clear understanding of the science involved, and the sections called "Common Misconceptions" are as fun to read as they are informative.

I have read this book cover-to-cover, and although it is intended as a text book, it reads like many of the very popular science books I have read. If you enjoyed reading Sagan's "Cosmos", Gribbin's "In Search of the Big Bang", Feynman's "The Character of Physical Law", Lederman's "The God Particle" or Hawking's "A Brief History of Time", you will enjoy this very well-conceived and well-written book.

"The Cosmic Perspective" is very comprehensive. Besides covering the fundamental concepts of astronomy (such as light as the cosmic messenger; universal motion; celestial timekeeping; and telescopes), this book details how stars are born, evolve and die; the fundamentals of relativity; how the galaxies were formed, as well as how our solar system was formed; how vast space really is; how we know the distances to various objects in our universe; and how we know what happened at the early moments of the Big Bang. Since this book is new (published in 1999), it contains the latest facts and the latest thinking of modern astronomy. This book captured my interest and my enthusiasm the moment I began reading it.

Most comprehensive astronomy book with clearest explanations
For beginner or intermediate astronomy students, this book not only has all topics covered, but touches on many other branches of science that are essential to the understanding of astronomy. Clear, concise explanations with very careful attention to units in sample problems make many basic science concepts understandable. The depth of current knowledge covered on a wide variety of astronomical topics is remarkable for inclusiion in just one book. The graphic diagrams, drawings, charts, illustrations, and photographs are also outstanding in what they add to one's ability to visualize the material presented. Overall, this is by far the best astronomy book I've seen.

Movie Posters of the Silent Era to color
It was an incredibly well drawn piece of work, and fun to color, too! It must have been a Herculean effort for the artist NOT to color it in himself! It BEGS to be colored! My children can't keep their hands off it,so I have to put it up high(it's mine, you know)Thank you for a wonderful time!

Good Reference
MOVIE POSTERS OF THE SILENT FILM ERA TO COLOR is, as noted on the cover, a 'coloring book' in the Stemmer House 'International Design Library' series. The black and white renderings of original film posters, by Rex Schneider, are accurate and quite well executed. In some instances where posters no longer exist, they have been newly designed in the style of the period. They provide a marvellous introduction and reference for all interested in the silent film era, its stars, and the broad range of art styles 'ballyhooing' the movies from the dawn of cinema to the first 'talkies', in addition to the good fun provided all who enjoy coloring. Schneider's uncanny caricatures of such celebrated movie comedians as Laurel & Hardy, Mabel Normand, and Buster Keaton (all represented in the book), are remarkable! The book is further complemented with notes on the individual films, an overview of the evolution of movie advertisements, and a guide for coloring the posters. The buyer is also at liberty to reproduce any of the posters for private, non-commercial use.

totally adorable....
This beautifully illustrated book is about a frog that is concerned with his diet. Every page is filled with action and adventure for this little guy who asks the question, "Do you know what I can eat?" He asks every animal that he meets and they send him on a wild goose chase. He starts off by asking a Long-eared bat, who sends him to ask the owl, who sends him to ask the opossums, then the deer, then the egret, and so on. The final animal that the frog talks to is the alligator that tries to eat him. This book was full of action and it introduces the young reader to the different types of animals that can be found in the Okefenokee Swamp. Another book that I had to read repeatedly to my daughter.

Fun Filled Educational Frog Tale
School age children will be introduced to obscure Okefenokee Swamp animals and their diets, as they travel through lush swamplands with "The Wide-Mouthed Frog". Young & old readers will be enchanted with this magnificent tale and its surprise ending.

I'm grateful for this book
My son, 6 years old, was "on strike" from reading. This book brought him back. He loves reading it, loves looking at the pictures, loves the fact that he can read it by himself.

It is an intelligent, well-illustrated book, that speaks to kids' interests. The words are chosen carefully to be both accessible and challenging for early readers.

I've also bought other books in the series, and they are consistently excellent.

Great first reading book!
Most "first readers" are much too advanced for true beginners. But its short sentences, repeating words, and a relatively engaging story make this one just perfect for the child who's ready to read their first book. My daughter was thrilled that she could read it all by herself. :)

The first book I ever read!
...And I still have most of it memorized! It's a great first read, with just enough words so the kids feel good about reading it, but not so many that they get frustrated and overwhelmed. "This is a frog. He likes to jog. Jog frog, jog..."

Great for First Graders
As a first grade teacher, I have used this book and others in this series to help emerging readers become beginning readers. Because of the phonemic approach, the interesting plot and illustrations from which to get picture clues, the students are able to read this book readily. You should see their faces when they are able to read it. It causes them to want to read more. It's also not a "baby book". The children feel that this is a more grown-up book. Thanks from a grateful teacher and her students.

Music Games for few players
This book was not what I expected, but it still has many uses. I am a music teacher and was hoping for large-group games I could use with my K-3 classes. This book is fully reproducible and has some good ideas, but most games are more of the board-game type and can only use a couple players

Great For Homeschool Moms
This book is great for homeschool moms because the games can be played with as few as two children and most can be adapted to be played with the whole family. The book is fully reproducible and my kids love to color the game pieces.

The book teaches the Music Alphabet, Music Syllables (Do, Re, Me, etc.), Notes, Rests, and Reading Rhythms, Symbols, Reading the notes on the staff, Musical Instruments and Famous Composers all through a game format. The games are similar to Lotto, Fish, War, Board Games and Memory games, etc. The Rules are easy to follow and I copy them and include them in a Ziploc type bag with all the game parts so the kids can play without looking the rules up.

It's a great resource for any teacher, homeschool mom or not!
