biblical text on heart
it is amazing that such an authoritative text can actually be written. but there it is!. a masterpiece, which is so encompasing that words fail. braunwald has a tradition and every new edition is a towering giant over the previous.seeing is beleiving, thus i strongly recommend this text to any one wishing to perfect himself in any aspect of cardiology.

A HARD-TO-FLAW MASTERPIECE
Anyone familiar with Dr. Braunwald's superb cardiovascular exploits in the "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" would not be surprised by the richness of this book.
The diligently crafted chapters are comprehensive, authoritative, well-illustrated, and include all the 'ins' and 'outs' of contemporary cardiology. It is one of the most consistent and coherent multi-authored texts in the field.
This single-volume CD-ROM package is a rich blend of evidence based medicine, best practice, and all the user-flexibility an e-book enthusiast would expect.

the Bible of Cardiology
There are many authors that have mastered their subjects. Once in a while however, you come across some authors that have, in addition, mastered the art of imparting that knowledge to others. That is what you have in this volume that has become the indispensable resource for Cardiologists and cardiology fellows. What Harrison's is to Internal Medicine, and Gray's is to Gross Anatomy, Braunwald's is to Cardiology. It is probably easier to talk of the beach without mentioning water than to talk of cardiology without Braunwald's Heart Disease.
This is a very worthy reference resource.

Like it.
I've too have had to read many learning organizational books for my graduate studie -- I just finished Emotionally Charged Learning by Eric Schiffer which was one of my favorites. I also like this one very much because it equally is fun to read! If I also had to train a group of people or point an organization towards achieving its goals as a learning organization, I would rely on both Emotionally Charged Learning and this book as my bible. Great writing style, great examples!

perhaps the best of it kind
I've had to read many learning organizational books for my graduate studies -- this was one of my favorites out of maybe 10 I've read. One, it's fun to read! The examples are erudite, taken from other disciplines like science and math, not just business. The 10 steps are easy to follow, logical and well represented. The authors rely on concrete examples that everyone can relate to. If I had to train a group of people or point an organization towards achieving its goals as a learning organization, I would rely on this book as my bible. Great writing style, great examples -- overall one of the most enjoyable I've read!

From the Information Age to the Age of Relationships
While there are many books about brain-compatible learning, systems thinking, communication, organizational and culture change, multiple intelligences..., this book has integrated them all into a very practical, wise and interesting manual for organizational growth. Ideally, people in any organization should start with the assessment tool and go sequentially through all the ten steps: 2. promote positive, 3. safe thinking, 4. risk taking, 5. people as resources, 6. learning power, 7. map the vision, 8. model the vision, 9. systems thinking, 10. get show on the road. But there are so many useful guidelines, stories and exercises, you can dip into any page and be enriched and enlightened. Just take "16 principles that promote learning" (pp. 16-19) or the 36 assessment items (pp. 66-67), they are very specific goals for us to aim at. "Why most training doesn't work" (pp. 168-171) should be required reading for all trainers. In fact, the whole book should be required reading by all those in management or interested in fostering growth through participative learning. For follow-up, it helps to read Peter Kline's The Everyday Genius, that gives a more comprehensive background to the Integrative Learning that underlies the present book. People can also go on to Peter Senge and team's books--if they haven't done so. In another revised edition, it might help to include an index and also update the checklist on 7 multiple intelligences to include the natural and existential intelligences.

I used to shoot low 100's, now I shoot low 90's/high80's
I've been playing golf for about 3 years now. This book helped my golf game come together and I review it before I play or practice. It is like a pocket-size dictionary for golf. I even carry it in my golf bag in case I get into trouble on the course. If you want to start shooting lower scores, you must practice, practice, practice. This book will be a valuable guide to keep you focused. I read this book for the physical aspect of the game and Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect for the mental aspect.

The most concise explanation of the worlds most complex game
If you could only buy one book on golf this should be the one. This book is well-written with easy to understand illustrations and explanations. Perfect to get the beginner up and running or for the advanced golfer to get back on track. Every golfer should have a copy, I highly recommend it.

A must for all golfers
Easily the best golf guide I've ever read. As a horrible golfer myself, this guide helped improved my game incredibly. It contains everything from bad lines, history of the game, club types ... you name it. The only guide you'll ever need

Acoustics in the Built Environment
Published in Paperback by Butterworth-Heinemann (1998)
Authors: Duncan Templeton, David Saunders, and Peter Mapp
Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

An excellent resource for the design team and their students
This book reads slowly and discussions tend to be dense while trying to be thorough but it is filled with very useful terms, charts, tables, diagrams, photos (B&W), and discussions of acoustic principals that all architects, engineers, and contractors are likely to encounter one day. An excellent resource for information about built acoustics for the professional, student or teacher. We highly recommend it. For further info: audioeng@europost.org

A must for radiology residents
Fleckenstein's Radiologic Anatomy is a fundamental, yet comprehensive text that every radiology resident must have. It explores in detail all of the major systems: gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, head and neck, thoracic, and even vascular. It may very well be the only radiologic anatomy book needed for residency training. Although Netter's Anatomy is a more than appropriate companion.

An Introduction to Catastrophe Theory
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (2003)
Author: Peter Timothy Saunders
Amazon base price: $10.00
List price: $20.00 (that's 50% off!)
Average review score:

A concise intro
This is a concise intro to catastrophe theory that is aimed mainly at undergrad level folks, or those who are looking for a streamlined version of Rene Thom's groundbreaking _Structural Stability and Morphogenesis_.

Most terms and concepts are explained adequately. The text is essentially a narrative for the algebra and differential equations that comprise the primary explanatory mechanism of the book. There is far less reliance on topology in this book than Thom's, and it tends to appear mainly in the things like the visualization of the obligatory seven elementary catastrophe types.

The applications given are intended to be fairly simple to understand (in keeping with the lack of specialization of the intended audience), so they are fine for an intro book, but I would tend to call them only "examples" rather than "applications".

I contrast this book with Thom's by saying that this intro book will give you the mechanics of catastrophe theory and some examples, whereas Thom's book paints a much broader conceptual picture with many profound speculations on the applications of catastrophe theory. Both books have their respective value and I feel they are good complements to each other to the newcomer to catastrophe theory.
