Great Pictures... but you're going to need another guide
This guidebook is great for its pictures and detailed diagrams of major sites, neighborhoods, and buildings. The book is absolutely filled with brilliant photos that help visitors (especially first time visitors like myself) what the sites look like. It also has photos of practical things such as roadsigns, the euro currency in all denominations, police cars, telephones, and even food. This might seem silly, but it's very helpful to know how to use their telephones and to learn which coins are which before going over there. It has a limited list of places to stay and doesn't go into detail about how to get to all the sites they cover. This is why I think this shouldn't be the only guide you buy if you're planning a trip to Ireland. It is definately one of the ones to buy, however. Another note: if you're like myself, and plan to travel light to Ireland, keep in mind that this book is rather heavy because of the thick, glossy pages - they're great for the pictures, but they'll weigh down your bag. Hope this helps!

One of the Best
Want a great guide that gives you the information you need to know in a easy to reference way? Want a guide that is also a great souvenir? Go for this one! The main caution is to be sure to get a current edition -- Dublin is a city that is changing fast!

My favorite travel series!
A very good guide book if you confine your trip to Dublin only. Almost all of the information is also contained in the Ireland guide, so you might want to spend a few more dollars and get the whole country. Lots of pictures with sections on what to do, where to eat and what to see. A map of the city center in the back of the book and each section of Dublin has suggested walking tours and a "must see" listing. A very informative section of practical information towards the end which gives you tips on taking the bus, how to get from the airport into the city, how to change money, etc. All in all, a very good guidebook for the city of Dublin.

Okay supplement
We found Fodor's Exploring Israel to be full of pretty pictures and good history, but a bit short on practical information. Specifically, the information on various sites and events was incomplete (hours would be omitted, no helpful hints provided, etc.)

The Lonely Planet Guide is a much better resource. It really contained everything we needed to know during our week there, and we'd recommend that guide over this one if you only get one. We also loved the Knopf Guide to the Holy Land, with its rich, beautiful pages. This really conveys the grandeur of this sacred part of the world. Exploring Israel also has many pictures, however, and can help you get a feel for what you want to see, so we recommend it as a third resource.

So, we recommend the Knopf Guide for souvenir/historical guide, the Lonely Planet Guide as a carry-with-you-everyday guide, and Fodor's Exploring Israel only for planning purposes.

The most informative and detailed book for new travelers.
I am not a traveller, but now that I know there are books like this out there, I believe I have more desire to travel. I studied this book before, during and now after my trip to Israel. Customs, money, scripture, directions on even walking through Jerusalem were found in the book...I used it daily on my pilgrimege and still do read and look things up, just to remember my trip. Next time it's FODOR'S for me!!! I highly recommend this book. Pictures and maps are as great as the information on where to shop...WONDERFUL!!! GO FOR IT!!!!

Exploring Rural France

Great for countryside travelling.
I am using this book to plan my drive through France. It's ideal if you plan to rent a car and drive the countryside. He tells you routes to take and suggests the most scenis ones. He also gives good, brief history of the areas and makes restaurant, hotel and site-seeing information, including telephone numbers which is incredibly helpful. My only complaint...and the reason I give four instead of five stars...is that in giving driving directions he does not tell you which way to head: north, south, east, west. So in mapping out my journey ahead of time, I am finding myself frustrated trying to figure out which direction he recommends and then looking for the villages on my map.
