Absolutely Brilliant
Brilliant Book, teaching you your not stuck and how to relive the problems of every day life. Absolute must reading for those who unsatisfied in their daily lives but have no idea on how to change this. Written in everyday language without the common psycho babble. Easy to read. Close to a 12 Step Program for every day life.

Great book
"Cut the CRAP and Resolve Your Problems" is one of, if not the best, self-help books of the past 5 years (That is -- besides the book I wrote, THE PROCRASTINATOR'S HANDBOOK.) Why? Because it delivers on its promise of being a simple yet compelling process to help each of us achieve our goals. What Drs. Cox and Sanders have done is to distill into four easy to remember words, the four things that we all do to get in our own way. These four words--Catastrophizing, Rationalizing, Agonizing and (my favoritie) Procrastinating--are explained in detail both as to what they are and how they act as obstacles to success. For example, if you are deeply in debt, it is primarily related to rationalizing. If you are still in the same job after 10 years, it is probably due to agonizing. And, of course, if that degree program isn't yet completed, it is probably due to procrastinating.

The exercises are really helpful and I liked the way the authors recommend that you read the book first, then go back through and do the exercises. In summary, if you let it, this book can really make a difference in your life.

You don't need to be afraid of Statistics
This is a very friendly statistics book. It is easy to read and understand. The authors also throw in some humorous comments now and then that is something you wouldn't expect to find in a statistics book and this seemed to help with the reading. Many real world business examples are used in the book. The example problems and the end of section or chapter problems are from different areas of study such as business, political, social sciences, and science. This is great for understanding how to apply statistics in real life. I would have to say that all the topics and formulas are explained very well. In some cases there are more then one way to write a formula and Sanders and Smidt makes a point of giving you both formulas. You can decide which formula works for you. The book comes with a CD loaded with the data files for all the problems so you don't have to spend time keying in data. There are copies of the data files come in a variety of formats such as Minitab, Excel Windows, and Macintosh. For most of the example problems the book takes you through the steps using Minitab Statistical software and the TI-83 graphing calculator. You are not only learning statistics, but you are also learning how to use Minitab and the TI-83 graphing calculator. In this day and age if you are going to do statistics you need to be able to do it with a computer. I wish they would have also included examples using Microsoft Excel, which more people are apt to have then Minitab. Personally I use both Minitab and Excel. I actually enjoyed reading this book and looked forward to studying. Even though my statistics class is over this book will not be collecting dust for a while as I plan on going back through it to reread or finish reading what I missed or skimmed over. There are still a lot of the problems that I want to do to reinforce what I have already learned. This is a great statistics book to keep as a reference. More then once I have found coworkers looking up stuff in my book.

The American Drive-In Movie Theatre

Back to the Belknap
Don and Susan Sanders have captured the essence of the drive-in movie theatre and packed all of the magic into a really great book. I flipped hamburgers at the now defunct Belknap Drive-in when I was in high school and turning the pages of this time-machine brought back many memories. Forget about multiplex cinemas and theater complexes at the mall. The American Drive-In movie theatre lives!

The drive-in theatre is the quintessential american icon
Don and Susan Sanders book captures the spirit of another twentieth century icon that is fast disappearing. Two generations in the US and Australia grew up in the back seat of the family car at the drive-in. The snack bar and playground were just as important as the movies themselves. The American Drive-in movie theatre is beautifully illustrated with images that take us all back to a more innocent time - our childhood.

As a former drive-in projectionist it is very satisfying that a place we all called home is being recognised before it vanishes forever. In Australia each major city has only a few drive-ins left. Let them remain as a link to our past and bring joy to the faces of a new generation in the back seat.

David Kilderry Melbourne, Australia

I Loved It!
This book made me love drive-ins even more! The photos tell a wonderful story, as does the lively text. It will make you remember a better time.

Science and Humanity
This book is written in a clear and engaging style that conveys a scientific understanding of vulcanoloy and the consequences, both positive and negative, of volcanic activity on human life and society.

The authors incorporate a discussion of the physical processes that drive volcanic activity with vivid descriptions of historic eruptions. The book includes nine well-chosen case studies that highight differences in type, intensity and effects of eruption. The authors vividly describe the effects of volcanic eruptions on natural and human environments, human history and human behavior. Throughout the book are highly explanatory yet simple illustrations of the natural processes at work and the specific volcanoes under study.

The authors convey the inspiring power of volcanic acitivity and place natural and human impacts within short and long-term perspectives. This book is clear and informative science coupled with thought provoking history and engaging human interest.

From plate tectonics and environmental impact, to entertaining stories of the effects of volcanic eruptions on art and literature or the creation of mythology, to thought-provoking effects on human life, migration and economic decline - its all here.

Volcanoes in Human History
Volcanoes in Human History: The Far-Reaching Effects of Major Eruptions written by Jelle Zeilinga de Boer and Donald Theodore Sanders is an engaging book about the awesome power of volcanoes its effects and how volcanoes are born. This book takes the reader on a short journey through time as we explore the origins and mechanisms of volcanism and shoing us how this affected human history, societies, cultures, and the environment.

This book explores nine volcanic eruptions, diccussing the geological setting in terms of plate tectonics; the theory that virtually rigid segments of the earth's crust move about over a less rigid layer and collide, and that the collisions give rise to earthquakes and volcanic activity. Then the book goes over the human terms following the aftereffects of volcanic eruption.

Volcanism is the surface manifestation of a living earth, the author likens a volcanic eruption as the plucking of a long tight-stretched string representing time: when the string is plucked it vibrates. Where the string is plucked is the volcanic activity or eruption where a great deal of energy is being released, the vibrations will have high amplitudes and short wavelengths. These vibrations will be powerful, but only last for a short time. But, as the vibration flows down the string (time), the amplitudes will decrease and the wavelengths increase, whithat the aftereffects will become less intense and they will last longer. The eruption will last days, volcanic aftereffects will last months, Climate change, Famine, epidemics, diaspora will last years; Economic and ecologic revival will last decades, and cultural effects will last centuries.

The books narrative is easy to read and is very understandable making this subject easy to understand. Most of us see a volcano erupt on the news and that is all we know until the news shows us another eruption. What we are not given is the far-reaching effects of what is really happening within the earth. Volcanism is the earth's way of renewing itself and releaving the tremendous pressures from deep within.

Reading this book will give the reader a greater appreciation about what really goes on, on the earth we walk upon. As the population of the earth increases, the effects of volcanism will be magnified, it is crucial that we understand the origin of volcanism as well as the devastation it can cause, and the aftereffects, for good or ill, that can linger for years, even decades, to come.

This is an incrediblly well-told story that is informative but nontechinical.

Living Under The Volcano
We are used to having to deal with changes in the weather, but twenty years ago, meteorologists were having to deal with a new atmospheric manifestation. Mount Saint Helens had blown up in the state of Washington, and had affected air quality, air travel, and emotions in the region, and had world-wide weather consequences. It certainly was not the first time a volcano shaped the weather, for volcanoes have had major effects on weather and even history. _Volcanoes in Human History: The Far-Reaching Effects of Major Eruptions_ (Princeton University Press) by Jelle Zeilinga de Boer and Donald Theodore Sanders takes nine famous or obscure volcanoes and demonstrates that volcanoes are an active part of our lives.

Surprisingly, volcanic effects are not all bad. Volcanic soils are very fertile, and we use plenty of minerals of volcanic origin. The gases from volcanoes made the Earth's atmosphere before photosynthesis took over. Many geologists think that all the water on earth was originally released by volcanoes. The book shows a very interesting aspect of Hawaii, in that it is in the middle of the Pacific plate, not near the edges where the plates are barging into each other and which are the usual sites of volcanic activity. The plate carrying the islands is floating slowly over a particular hotspot, which pokes up as the plate floats over it, and gives rise to the familiar Hawaiian Island chain. Iceland is on such a hotspot, too, and besides that, it straddles the Mid-Atlantic ridge, where the ocean floor is being split apart as the plates separate at about two centimeters a year. The Bronze Age eruption of Thera in the Mediterranean directly weakened Crete, which permitted the Greeks to expand into the area; Mycenaean Greece was given the boost that made it the ancestor of classical Greece, with incalculable effects on the entire Western civilization ever since. Mount Pelée's explosion in Martinique in 1902 stopped an election that would have furthered the political advancement of black and mixed-race people on the island, and throughout the French colonies. The list of contingencies is fascinating.

All of the volcanoes described here are still active; we have not heard the last of them, and perhaps there is someday going to be a blast like that in Toba in the Pacific 74,000 years ago, which was thousands of times bigger than Mount St. Helens, and may have affected human evolution. This surprising, informative book is a useful look at how volcanoes effect land, sea, humans, and society. Even those of us not under the shadow of a volcano are living in the volcano zone.

Play your way to leadership
In this age of incredible technological advances and whirlwind pace of change, many business leaders seem to be looking for "e-solutions" to some pretty fundamental business issues, apparently forgetting that fundamental issues are best addressed with fundamental principles. In Go for the Green, Dr. Sanders presents an insightful, yet eminently practical guide for getting solidly in touch with the fundamental issue of leadership. Aptly subtitled, "Leadership Secrets from the Golf Course," the book cleverly uses golf as an allegory for illustrating the challenges and frustrations that leaders face as they seek to "play the course of business." More importantly, Dr. Sanders goes beyond most books on leadership by providing an excellent array of useful techniques for increasing leadership effectiveness. He also offers some new ideas and ways of thinking about leadership. For example, we have long made the distinction between management and leadership. In today's business environment, good leaders must also be good managers. The "secret" is to know when to be manager, and when to be leader.

To articulate a compelling vision of the future is critical, but not sufficient. To devise a sound strategy for achieving the vision is critical, but not sufficient. To enroll and equip the workforce to diligently and collaboratively implement the strategy is critical, but not sufficient. Dr. Sanders reminds us that this is the essence of leadership. Further, these are not discreet events, but rather elements of a continuous process; and truly effective leaders understand that different skill sets are required at various stages of the process.

If you want to improve your business game (and perhaps your golf game, as well), join Dr. Sanders in this interesting, enlightening, informative, and often entertaining trip through the world of leadership. Learn to use his tips and techniques to reduce your business handicap as you play the "holes" on his challenging course. You don't have to be a golfer to benefit from this book; anyone seeking to improve their leadership effectiveness can profit from its lessons. But remember: just as your golf game (or any other skill, for that matter) won't improve without practice, your effectiveness as a leader will only improve to the extent that you put the lessons into practice. So don't just read the book, implement the "how-to's."

Great book; interesting and easy reading; comfortable style.

Great Read!
Go for the Green, Leadership Secrets from the Golf Course is a great book for business people at all levels. I found it to be well-written by a pro and loaded with practical information for the busy manager. It's organized in a manner that's easy to read; I found I could pick it up and put it down without losing my train of thought. Note that this book is "The Front Nine." I look forward to "The Back Nine" and more solid advice from an author that marries golf with his dedication to sound leadership practices. Go for the Green is a super investment for leaders that are serious about their work.

My Computer Bible
I happened to read the book "Computers Today" by Sanders some years ago when I was very new to computers. It helped me quite a lot to know the details of computers . I was working as a computer teacher and the book helped me to guide the students with the correct information. Now I am longing for that book with the latest edition and if you could get the book for a price which i can afford , I would like to grab it. Narayani Iyer An admirer of the book
