I have been told by professors that Salinas is schizophrenic. His poems roam and wander between the seen and unseen, known and unknown, but they are not mad ravings of a psychotic. His allusions to Hispanic symbols are more universal than esoteric, and his metaphors have a translucent and soothing affect upon the mind.
