Everyone needs a vacation
Everyone needs time off, not everyone gets to actually "go on vacation" though. This book offers ideas on how to get away without actually getting away. Sometimes just the thought of being on vacation can take some of the stress out of our day, it workes for me. I found this book in the suggested reading section of Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life which also talks about vacations.

Take Me Away
In today's fast paced, information overload society who among us could refuse tips on how to escape in just twenty minutes?

Judith Sachs shows us simple, easy to implement ideas that take all the work out of trying to relax. Even if you love the rat race as much as I do, there are days when just twenty minutes of peace and quiet would lend the fuel needed to make it to the finish line.

A quick flip through the pages will leave you feeling like the escape has already begun. Actually implementing some of these ideas will get you through the weeks and months in between your "real" getaways.

I enjoyed this book so much I included it in the suggested reading list in my book, Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life

Excellent
A superb guide and a must for couples hoping to maintain their intimacy through their middle and golden years. Though the authors deal with the problems which can sometimes affect men later in life, mainly I bought it for my wife Marjorie. With a sensitive touch the authors set out some of the physical and emotional changes which can affect a woman, and give advice on a range of options - medical, holistic and psychological - on addressing any difficulties. It's too early to say whether the book has been effective, though to be fair to Marjorie my goitre hasn't helped things. I give it 5 stars nonetheless.

An important aspect of the donor egg cycle was not discussed
Part of the donor egg cycle for many donor egg recipients includes being on the medication Lupron. Being on Lupron for a number of weeks is like being in a twilight zone. With supressed natural hormones, one's normal functions are slowed and supressed until one is barely able to function. The hot flashes and headaches can be debilitating. Dr. Paulson does not address the issues of 1) what physical symptoms to expect when one's natural hormones are supressed and 2) how to deal with the physical symptoms. Although the book is generally informative, there is doubt left in my mind with respect to what other critical information may have been left out of the book. Dr. Paulson should have addressed the downside of Lupron therapy. I bought this book because I was searching for answers while undergoing a donor egg cycle. After the failure of my first fresh embryo transfer, I am currently undergoing downregulation for a frozen embryo transfer.

fascinating discussion of conception through donated eggs
This isn't so much a book about "Motherhood Late In Life" as it is about conception using donor eggs. As a 40+ woman pregnant for the first time (through traditional methods), I picked up this book after my first OB visit, thinking it would provide a good overview of some of the issues I might face. At the time, I didn't realize that the book was specifically about ART (assisted reproductive technology) and pregnancies through donated eggs; I assumed it was just about being an older mom. Nonetheless, once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. It provides much more detail about the biology of conception than do any of the traditional pregnancy books. Juxtaposed with the detailed biology lessons are installments in the story of Sarah & Joe, an older (Sarah is 48; Joe is younger) couple that opts for donor egg use after years of more traditional fertility treaments. In telling the story of Sarah & Joe, the authors address the ethical issues of pregnancy in post-menopausal women in what struck me as a balanced, compassionate, and very thoughtul manner. In the Sarah/Joe story, they discuss the response Sarah & Joe elicit from family members, friends, Sarah's sister, Sarah's adult daughter from a previous relationship. Let's face it -- not everyone is going to be congratulatory & rushing to hold a baby shower for a 50 year old pregnant woman -- or a lesbian or single woman for that matter; nor do all folks embrace the idea of creating an embryo in a test tube rather than accepting whatever God apparently had in mind. And I think it would make a typical adult women a little put off to learn her mother (and her children's grandmother) was using a donor egg to become prenant again. Paulson & Sachs deal with the questions and challenges that women choosing egg donation (or even pregnancy later in life or under other non-traditional circumstances) may face, and their treatment is even-handed -- realistic, not pedantic or preachy, not utopian. I think this would be essential reading for anyone considering assistance in reproduction, especially egg donation. It would also be helpful for the friends and families of women who have elected to use donor eggs.

An instructive book, written with compassion and respect.
An instructive book about assisted reproduction in the postmenoupausal years, written with great compassion and respect for the couples contemplating such a decision. Paulson and Sachs are obviously attuned to all of the emotional and ethical, as well as practical issues, that enter into such a decision. As a clinical discourse on post-menopausal pregnancy issues it is first rate. As the journey of a fictious woman who must deal with all of the complexities of making such a decision it is an emotional and compelling story.

Well Below Average
So what else is new? Boring, redundant and lacking in new information.

Nothing New
this book provides no new information. It's riding on the heels of other books detailing the complex nature of female sexuality and response. Do yourself a favor and save your money. You'd learn more reading the cover stories of NY Times Magazine and Newsweek that dealt with all this material a year or two ago.

Revitalizes an old relationship
"Getting the Sex" is a great book that you can pick, find what you're looking for, and put down. The author's give a comprehensive understanding of the woman's psyche, but its also a great resource for men to get a better understanding of their partner. Put it on your bedside table - it can lead to a richer dialogue between partners and ultimately a closer relationship.

Into Food Fantasies?
If you're into food fantasies, than this is the book for you. Unfortunately, I don't know which turns me off more -- pouring food on my partner or cleaning up the mess it makes. Judith Sachs spends COUNTLESS pages on food and masturbation fantasies. Very few pages are spent on how sex actually heals. My recommendation? If you want to learn about the positive aspects of sexual healing, listen to Marvin Gaye or read Alex Comfort.

Very interesting reading material.
Reading this book was a delightful experience. It discusses the power that sex has on healing lots of physical, emotional and psychological problems.

It gives lots of useful information that can be used towards sensual, provocative and sexy lovemaking sessions. It's a known fact that health people have better sex lives. I enjoyed this book and can honestly recommend it to anyone.

Very good book.
Obviously the reader from New york did not pay attention to what he was reading. This book shows readers how to have a healthy and fulfilling sex life. It shows you how sex heals a wide range of physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual illnesses. It also Includes quizzes, case histories, techniques for improving sexual energy and communication. Has anyone ever seen 9 1/2 weeks? They used different foods for fun while having erotic and sensual sex. This book is very informative and it was very well the price. I highly rescommend it.

What the heck--?
I've been looking at books on natural alternatives to Prozac, and this is the worst I've seen for that purpose.

Believe it or not, the dozens upon dozens of ailments, symptoms, and therapies in this book are not organized in a logical order, but *alphabetically*. It really takes some digging to find what you need.

For instance, to get information about "depression," look in the D's. On the other hand, if you want to know about "the blues," look in the B's. "Sadness/despondency" is in with the S's. "Grief"--check the G's.

For that matter, if you're depressed, you might also want to check out "affirmations," "agitation," "alienation," "behavioral therapy," "cognitive awareness," "drowsiness," "escapism," "fatigue," "guilt," etc.--each in their own separate listings. You will not have the patience to do this, because this book is 500 pages long. Don't you think they might have organized this book better?

The title "Nature's Prozac" suggests that this book covers natural alternatives to Prozac, such as St. John's Wort. Discussion of these is inadequate almost to the point of being nonexistent. (St. John's wort is mentioned in a list on p. 217 and there are three sentences about it on p. 74.)

If you're looking for an encyclopedia of entries on non-medical therapies, buy this book.

If you're looking for medically sound advice for people with depression, the best book I found at my library was Murray's Natural Alternatives to Prozac (a bit old). I am also about to check out Bamuel's Dealing with Depression Naturally and Knishinsky's The Prozac Alternative.

The Bible on anxiety type ailments, clear, short easy readin
The book was better than I expected I liked it because it covered many ailments and gave short , clear approaches to treating them naturally. I especially liked the forward, intro and appendix. It explained a little about emotional problems and the appedix gave tips on how to get off meds. THe book is alphabetized for a great future reference according to ailments. What to do is listed immediately following. Great book!!

This is an easy-to-use guide for emotional disorders.
This book was easy to read and offered viable solutions to a variety of emotional states such as fear, anxiety, depression, stress, etc. A wide range of alternative choices were offered such as yoga, herbal remedies, meditation and others. The author encourages the reader to use the therapy that feels the most comfortable. This book is easy to read and every time I have read it, I have always felt more hopeful and reassured. I highly recommend it.

Comprehensive, easy to follow, excellent Q&A format
Covers many aspects of menopause including sexuality, cancers, hysterectomy; summary information followed by re-presentation in Q&A format makes information easier to follow. Not heavily biased for or against ERT/HRT. Presents more than one treatment avenue, behavioral response. I've read several menopause books but this one gave me the information I wanted in a way that I could take to my doctor for more discussion. I would recommend this book to anyone: men, women, health professionals, young, old. It's filled with information, not all of which I have easily found elsewhere.
