Winning Market Leadership
Messrs. Ryans, More, Barclay and Deutscher have delivered what will surely be very quickly seen as a classic in the field of technology marketing. The authors table a very comprehensive process for managing strategic planning in technology-intensive businesses. Great plans (and businesses) often come from great planning processes - these guys have delivered the absolute best! This is an important book. Please don't tell my competitors about it! Bravo! Excellent! Well done!

A refreshing new book on strategic market planning
This is an excellent book. It holds a prominent place on my desktop for easy reference. Thank you.

Nothing but net...
A basketball game in the NBA is 48 minutes long, right? Wrong. There is so much more drama behind the scenes and so much more at stake than another victory in every NBA game that the average fan is never entitled to witness and experience but this book does the best job I've ever seen in taking you there. It doesn't hurt that a classic confrontation between the then-mighty Celtics and the upstart Cavaliers is the matchup taken into focus by this great literary effort of showing what life in the NBA is like (at least during the 1980s). No personal fouls here... just a sure shot for all basketball fans who are also bookworms at heart and are not limited to enjoying the game of basketball on the television or on the court. Like I said, nothing but net..

A remarkable overview of the mammals
Mammalian diversity - and the remarkable adaptations of living and fossil mammals - are the topic of this updated version of the standard text on mammalian biology. New figures and a completely updated systematic treatment characterize this volume, which should become the standard for professionals and the general public interested in the biology of mammals.

Bravo!
Congratulations John and Terry on a superb book. Finally the world can read about all these essential ideas, and may well get off its backside and make some changes. An excellent book, and absolutely necessary for anyone interested in education reform, how we learn, and what isn't been, but can be done to make good use of those wonderful 'muscles' we call brains.

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio

A real slice of small town life
The town of Defiance during the 1950's is well-described, from the tree-shaded streets leading to the beautiful red-stone library overlooking the two rivers, to the plentiful Indian arrow heads, the small downtown shops, and the importance of the church, sports and factories. I remember Defiance as Ryan describes it. This book is a lovely memorial to Ryans' mother Evelyn, portraying her love, courage, optimism and great wit under such difficult circumstances. The book was great fun to read: the verses and jingles, the funny family tales, and of course, the sweepstakes wins always just in the nick of time to save the family.

Mrs. Ryan is an Inspiration
This is a daughter's wonderful tribute to a remarkable woman; very well-written. It is, at times, quite sad. Evelyn Ryan was such a remarkable woman, with an amazing story. You just have to read it. She is very inspiring.

It says a lot for the skill of Terry Ryan as an author, for the reader to be able to feel so close to the people she writes about. You are right there while you read, you feel the emotion right along with everyone else. While I read, I felt as though I was growing up alongside the other kids, and felt as much sadness as a grown child left home as the younger kids. I was completely immersed in the Ryan family.

I highly recommend this book. When so many biographies are of the rich and (in)famous, it was lovely to read about an ordinary woman who was far from ordinary. She is an inspiration to her children, and she will be to you.

Great look at an America that barely existed
The Prize Winner Of Defiance Ohio" is a beautiful love letter from a daughter to her mother. It is a special kind of biography that chronicles the life of Evelyn Ryan an extraordinarily resourceful woman who was born ahead of her time.

Evelyn Ryan, raised her ten children with grace and style, using her wit and ability to see the humor in a life that would have most people begging for relief to win prizes large and small. It is an unflinching look at a large family that depended on an alcoholic and abusive breadwinner who was more likely to drink his wages rather than pay his mortgage.

"The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio" is a fantastic chronicle of an America that no longer exists and in some ways never existed. It shatters the myth of the middle class 50's housewife who stayed at home and took care of the children without 'worrying her little head' about the finances. In this America contests were won by skill rather than luck and Evelyn managed to keep her family going with prizes such as that ranged from bicycles to two-week trips to Switzerland (converted to cash) to TVs and juke boxes. Ryan had the touch.

This book has made me laugh and cry and think about my family. My grandmother was in an abusive marriage, with an alcoholic husband and seven children, at around the same time that Evelyn was at a time when the law and the community blamed a woman for an abusive husband. What a life.

What a great story. Buy this book and celebrate the life of Evelyn Ryan, or E.L. Ryan, or Mrs. Ryan, or whatever entry was the winner of the day, with her daughter, Terry Ryan

nothing spectacular
I gained very little from reading this book. I'm sure it has helped others, but the solutions I tried weren't helpful in my dog's situation. I've had much better luck with other authors, specifically Sarah Hodgson.

Good book, but there is better.
This book gives some good training advice. For many problems, the author says to see a professional dog behaviorist. My dog was showing signs of mild aggression, and this book was not much help for my situation.

"Good Owners, Great Dogs" by Brian Kilcommons and Sara Wilson addresses more problems and gives solutions that work.

An excellent, informative & humane dog training guide!
The Toolbox for Remodeling Your Problem Dog is fun, reader-friendly, and is packed full of great information! Despite the book's title, your dog doesn't have to be a problem to benefit greatly from the training suggestions in this book. It also contains a wealth of behaviorial info and creative solutions rarely found in most other dog training books. Excellent for both puppies and mature dogs. I highly recommend it!

I gave 2 stars probably because pictures were quite entertaining. The rest is absolutely useless. To stop the bark you have to eliminate the cause. Oh really? How clever! Just kill the neighbor.
