Best Spanish/English dictionary around
This is the very best Spanish English dictionary that can be found. I've found it necessary to use several at a time when doing translations in the past, but with this one, it's a very rare occasion when one finds the need to look something up in another dictionary. It contains current language and keys in on different parts of the world, not just Spain, as with others. So, if you're using Spanish from a Latin American country, you'll have no problems finding translations using this dictionary

Interacting Overseas
Before undertaking a study abroad program in Bogotá, Colombia (5 years ago), I spoke almost no Spanish. I took an older edition by this author with me at the time. Several other authors claimed to have the best resource, but this author proved to be well above the best. Within 3-4 months time, I was speaking fluent Spanish while taking college level courses. A great deal of vocabulary could be learned by asking questions in everyday society, yet a good portion needed to referenced the old-fashioned way. I was able to succeed in my courses because of the vastness, depth and broad range of terms and phrases in this resource. Not only did this resource help me to excel in college, but in everyday life as well. It exemplifies all words and phrases in a multitude of contexts virtually exhausting all possible utilizations. In addition, it recognizes region-specific terms and phrases when necessary. Unlike any other publication, this dictionary references vulgar terms, which I found to be a priceless tool. These are parts of everyday living, and should be able to be referenced like any other part of spoken language. I have shown this publication to a plethora of individuals from all walks of Hispanic culture, and all have been equally impressed. This, of course, including individuals ranging from ages 16-65, from lawyers and optomologists to bakers and cab drivers. I still have my 1994 edition and it hasn't outdated one bit. This edition only capitalizes on the previous edition. I can't recommend this publication enough. It is very well though-out, written and organized, yet it doesn't take a biochemical engineer to decipher its contents. If you don't shell out the measly 30-some odd dollars for this one, then you really aren't that eager to learn another language.

Great for many reasons!
I use this dictionary for two reasons. First, I am studying Spanish, and this book is a wonderful and necessary learning tool. Second, and most importantly, I teach English as a Second Language to many Spanish-speaking students. I have found this dictionary very effective at fulfilling my needs as a learner and as a teacher who uses it to provide translation and meaning in the classroom.

THE GOOD: Wow, there are so many good things about this dictionary, let me just highlight my favorites. 1) It is easy to use. Colored tabs make it easy to quickly find the word you need. It has an easy to read font, and the page is laid out nicely - so that words and explanations aren't crammed into tight spaces. 2) It is a hardback book. This may not seem like much, but when you use a paperback dictionary a lot its covers tend to become ragged and worn. The hardback also allows the book to stay open to any page that you turn to - allowing you to use both hands to type or write the definition, and making it so that you don't have to worry about the book slamming shut and forcing you to look up the same word twice! 3) Useful entries. You get all the normal stuff that you would in any dictionary: part of speech, gender, number, etc. But you also get some nice little features! Entries are cross referenced to similar words. Sense and regional indicators are also included, so that you know if an adjective refers to automobiles or people, and whether or not it is used only in Bolivia. Also, all Spanish verbs are referenced to a table at the back of the book which gives all forms of that type of verb. 4) Tables. In addition to the nice verb tables, there are also pages to help you with forms of address, numbers, dates, time, weights & measures, and even how to write letters.

THE BAD: The only problem that I can really foresee is the size and weight of the book. It is big, and it is heavy! I think that this is a "leave at home" reference book, and might be inconvenient to haul around between classes.

What else can I say? I love this book! It is, without exception, the absolutely best foreign language dictionary that I have ever used (and that includes a lot of different languages!) Definitely worth every penny spent!

Best book on later model Deere's
This is a great book on late model John Deere equipment from around the world. It is filled with color photos. It describes equipment chronologically and by type. Not only does it discuss agricultural equipment but it covers construction and lawn and garden equipment. There are charts on equipment statistics and it has a large section on the "New Generation of Power". If you are interested in later model Deeres, then I highly recommend this book.

BEST BOOK EVER!!!
If you are into John Deere during these years, this is the book to have. Awesome. I want to run out and paint my car green.

Macmillan excells.
Don Macmillan has produced a work of art. He has taken archieve and personal knowledge and combined them to produce a masterpiece of tractor and equiptment history.

This guide is indispensable
Housing and travel availability changes almost day to day and it is difficult to write ahead to plan the move. This book and many versions before it have helped make those plans much easer.
The author has seen the in's and out's of travel from a practical stand point. She has written several books on this subject and related subjects including "Military Space-A Air Basic Training: And Reader Trip Reports" and a book that you will have to search to find written about her two years in Vietnam "Customs and Culture of Vietnam" which is very in-depth.

Not for travel, but the best dictionary out there
Absolute best Spanish-English dictionary on the market. This dictionary was recommended to me as a graduate student in Spanish by my advisor, one of the leading Spanish linguistics professors in the country-and it has never disappointed me.

When buying a foreign language dictionary, it is extremely important to look up a variety of words with multiple definitions, and see whether you are clear which Spanish word corresponds to which definition. A good test case is a word like "kid": be sure that you know the word in Spanish that corresponds to "child" and the word meaning "young goat".

HEAD OR TAIL, IT COUNTS
Yes, this edition of the "Oxford Spanish Dictionary" did cut the mustard. It is a quality lexicon which Oxford University Press crafted with both care and patience.
A true descendant of the unabridged version, this healthy scion boasts of more than 170,000 headwords and phrases. Each entry was defined using contemporary translation. Whether you are an English speaker who is learning Spanish or vice-versa, this is a dependable tool to keep at hand. It counts: whether head or tail! And, it used the simplest illustrations to explain the meanings of its headwords.
Almost everything about this lexicon is positive. Given its reasonable price-tag, I did not find any serious offence to accuse it of. I will recommend it for both teachers and students. Professional translators and advanced-level teachers should go for the more versatile unabridged version.

Serious about Spanish? Don't forget these books...
Very, very good. I am bilingual, and I use this dictionary frequently. It is helpful that all of the reference information in the Spanish-English side is in Spanish, even if the same info appears in the English section (for instance, the section on "telephone language" in the English side appears as "telefonear" in the Spanish side. This just illustrates the completeness of this book.

If you are studying Spanish, I recommend that you purchase 3 books in addition to your curriculum: The Oxford Spanish Dictionary; A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish; and 501 Spanish Verbs, if you need that last one. The Oxford Spanish Dictionary is simply the definitive Spanish-English dictionary. The New Reference Grammar is invaluable for its completeness and incredible ease of use. The 501 Spanish Verbs can be helpful if you find yourself remembering things like "errar is irregular," but you just can't remember how.

The front cover is not the same
I received the dictionary but the front cover does not look like the one showed in the internet site. In Short, I don't have the certainty that I received the dictionary which I pay for, but it is very complete and excellent anyway.

Elric of Melnibone (Limited-Signed Edition Series Number 3)
Published in Hardcover by Graphitti Designs (1986)
Authors: Roy Thomas, P. Russell, Michael T. Gilbert, and Michael Moorcock
Amazon base price: $35.95
Used price: $40.52
Average review score:

Just a beginning, but what a beginning!
This series starts off in a rather subdued, moody tone and gathers momentum as it goes. Very little in Moorcock is unexplained and apparent loose ends often get tied up in a different series altogether! His trick is always to leave you with a new set of mysteries, rather like the best detective story writers. It's one of the reasons you keep turning the pages and, indeed, keep reading the series! Exploration with Moorcock promises a great journey, some interesting discoveries and some mighty mysteries, just like space exploration, really, or 19th century exploration. This is what maintains the sense of wonder, even through his non-fantasy books like the great MOTHER LONDON or the Pyat series. As Angela Carter says in her introduction to Moorcock's book on writing technique DEATH IS NO OBSTACLE, he is a writer driven by a generous talent and an enormous curiosity. It is that curiosity which constantly drives him to explore new ideas, new ways of story telling and new ways of looking at the world! His influence has been immeasurable on the science fiction field alone. His ideas infuse the field. I read this first when I was a teenager. It led me to some of America and France's greatest modern writers, several of whom have already acknowledged Moorcock as a contemporary master! In England and France he is known as an important literary talent. This is a great introduction to the Eternal Champion series, but it is only a fraction of the mighty multiverse that is Michael Moorcock (as one of his own music hall characters might proclaim)! If you want wit and farce and Elric, try Elric at the End of Time. If you want dark melodrama and moody characters, Elric of Melnibone is the guy for you!

A powerful fantasy tale
"Elric of Melnibone," by Michael Moorcock, is a sword-and-sorcery tale whose hero, Elric, is the albino king of an ancient island nation. Elric lives in a world of magic and warfare; it's a place where humans have dealings with powerful supernatural beings.

This is a decidedly adult fantasy story; Elric's is a world of drugs and slavery, and this story is dark, violent, and full of political intrigue. Moorcock succeeds in giving the story an evocative, mythic feel. The author has created, in addition to Elric, some really memorable characters (such as Doctor Jest, the master torturer). The book is full of wonderfully cinematic scenes and skillfully realized fantasy concepts. And the melancholy Elric makes for an interestingly offbeat hero.

Ultimately, "Elric" is about such resonant issues as love, ambition, responsibilty, and the seeming pull of destiny. For a compelling companion text, try Ursula K. LeGuin's "A Wizard of Earthsea."

The Greatest Fantasy Novel of the 20th Century
I cannot recommend this book highly enough to any writer or reader seeking the consumate fantasy hero novel. Its construction and wording are exquisite, and it follows all of the classic elements Robert Campbell mentions in "The Warrior's Journey." Elric is such a rich, fascinating character that it is impossible not to identify with his struggles. The war between Chaos and Law is our own internal struggle, the warring conscience of Mankind, ever at odds, striving for balance, yet rarely acheiving it. Like Elric, we find only small solace, even in Tanelorn, for struggle is what drives us--the fire in the brain, the quest for the unattainable. We are all Warriors At The Edge of Time, and Moorcock uses his magnificent style to convey this ongoing war we call "life" with elegent prose that truly makes "Elric of Melnibone" one of the pivotal fantasy novels of our century. A must read! A perfect 10!

Greasepaint and Gore: The Hammer Monsters of Roy Ashton

Fans of Makeup, Hammer & Horror, could find no better read!
Fans of Make-up, Hammer Films, or the film industry in general could find no more entertaining read. As an insight to a time and place, this book is fascinating. I learned so much about the moviemaking at Hammer, and in England in the 1930's through 60's. As a make-up artist myself, I was intrigued to hear so many stories that resonate with my own, more current, experiences. My only real complaint is that the book contains very little in the way of detailed explanatiuons of how Mr. Ashton created his make-ups or products used. However, I understand that is not the intent of the book. It does achieve it's goals very well and belongs on the bookshelves of any true fan!

A Modern Masterpeice.
Greasepaint& Gore. What a wonderful title for a truly epic book, which has information that no true fan of the genre of horror, can afford to miss.Messers Sachs & Wall, are to be heartily congratulated on what is definately a modern masterpeice.Every aspect of Roy Ashton's make-up expertease,is covered in detail, including a very great number of props are shown. Don't waste time, buy a copy, you'll be glad you did.

it was pov
the play Shirley Valentine was boring, and pov, who wants to read about some old crump who talks to the wall? not me......

Shirley Valentine - Longman Edition
This is the SCREENPLAY - not the stage version. Beware! I thought I was ordering the stage play. It's still a nice book though, with lots of notes and background info.

Delightful
Shirley Valentine is a lovely character. She is a woman who started her life with fire and promise, and who found herself in her kitchen talking to the walls. Not because she is mad, but because her life is loveless, predicatable and dry. Until her friend takes her to Greece and her life changes, in many ways.

This is an absolutely delightful story. We can all identify with Shirley and her need to have a life with a little more meaning, and we can all cheer her as she goes about getting it. This is a poignant, sad and funny story, and it is a modern classic.

Who is educating whom?
The play "Educating Rita" is quite a good one. It's interesting to follow Rita's change and her new experiences educated by Frank.

At the beginning Rita doubt herself and is absolutely not satisfied with her life. Till she meets Frank. She becomes more and more independent and self-confident. And so she finally leaves her husband and starts her life new. At the end she also leaves Frank because she doesn't need him any longer. Frank is lonely now; he has lost a good friend and his job too, because of his alcool- problem.

She has changed her life, but she isn't happier with her new life, because she can't go back and she doesn't arrive to manage her new life.

Education?
Willy Russell wrote a play about a woman who tries to find herself by being educated. Her name is Rita. She reads a lot of books and with the help of her professor Frank she is also able to understand them. She becomes independent, she leaves her husband and changes her life completely. At the end she doesn't need her teacher any longer and they go separate ways. The tragic point of the play is that Rita can't really improve her life inspite of all education. She can't go back to her former life, but she hasn't a new one yet. Frank is going to Australia, after loosing his job, because he is an alcoholic.

The play is interesting, but there are a lot of authors mentioned who make the whole text a bit difficult to read. It has been written in dialogues and threw the whole play there are only Rita and Frank talking to each other. We can recommend the book.

Does fate exist thanks to the existstence of societies?
This is yet another play written by Russel criticising the british classing system. This book tells the story of a young women, tired of her own class, who wants to change her way of life. This makes her an outcast in both her society and the one she is trying to become a member of....it is gripping and moving, but unfortunately very true..

Computational Intelligence PC Tools

A confusing book, with large gaps in explanation
I found this book to be confusing and difficult to understand. It was used for the text in an Intelligent Systems at my Uni, and I believe that it made an already difficult subject even more so.

The book would have benefitted from a better explanation, perhaps with more thoroughly explained examples and full source code for all the examples included.

This is not really a book for those who have problems with higher math, nor for those whose interest in the area of "Artificial Intelligence" is casual. It is not really even a good book for use as a text.
