Excellent for all(even 25 year olds)!!!
I originally bought this book for some older friends of mine. I ended up reading it all the way through before giving it to them. The stories touched all of my emotions and reminded me of my wonderful grandparents as well(my grandparents raised my sisters and I thru much of our childhood). This is a great book for anyone and everyone-don't pass it up.

They've done it again
Readers who haven't received a recent dose of "Chicken Soup for the Soul," shame on you. In "Chicken Soup for the Golden Soul," Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield, Barbara Chesser, Amy Seeger and Paul Meyer present us with one of the best of the series.

I say it is a must-read for anyone on either side of 60. It is a timeless, energized, enthusiastic, motivational book written with golden years in mind, but filled with stories all can enjoy. Will be a great holiday gift for lots of folks on your list.

A real gem of a book
Some books just have the right feel about them and this is one of them. The author clearly knows neural networks and also knows how to communicate to others in a no-nonsense fashion. With so many books being published, you rarely find a technical book that is as good as this. The emphasis here is on conveying the insights that the experts in this area would know. Importantly, concepts are explained equally in words, graphics and mathematics, maximising the uptake of knowledge from the book. Tufte would be impressed by the quality of the line graphics in this book, and the information that they convey, not to mention the overall presentation. I suspect that this book would make an ideal textbook for a course in neural networks. Overall, I've enjoyed reading it very much.

Neural Smithing
Book is excellent. Covers the theory very well, such that you can make the computer code yourself. They also provide puedocode. You will be able to learn it better than other books that just give you the code. I find that once you understand the theory, writing the code is easy.

Saves you months of information gathering
Everybody who tries to use NNets for real goes through these steps.
First, there is the Delta rule.
Then, there is overfitting, local minima, generalization problems and frustration.

The complexity of NN is not in it's math; the difficulty is in the construction of a NN. This book is excellent in providing rules-of-thumb for NN construction, while at the same time providing the theoretical backing.

Hey I am not making money reviewing this book, it's just really good.

Sacred Spiritual Guidance
I loved reading this book as it holds many spiritual gems straight from the writers heart. Jackie Woods is powerful in her teachings and shows simple steps to work through patterns we've all gathered throughout our lives. The format of Spiritual Energy Cycles makes it easy to apply to any situation.

Since reading the book I have MANY times caught myself wrapped in emotion and stuck in a mental thought and said, 'Now, what's the bottom line here?!' This grounds me and allows me to move through my creation of growth! Then comes the manifestation part of the cycle. That's what it's all about ... it's a cycle! I would reccomend this book to anyone who is on a spiritual growth path. I re-read this book on a regular basis.

Spiritual Energy Cycles
The information provided in this book is absolutely amazing. I've been a highly dedicated student of metaphysical teachings since 1984, studying dozens of different teachers, and I THOUGHT I was on a powerful Spiritual path - until I came across the information in this book. That's not to say that I did not have tremendous Spiritual growth before - I did - but anyone who is interested in TURBO-CHARGING their growth will count this book as "mandatory reading". If you liked "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsh, this little 75 page book can take you even further down the path than you imagined. I've had dozens of favorite teachers over the years, from Stuart Wilde to Ram Dass, Deepak Chopra to Wayne Dyer - but the information in this book helped bring about wonderful healings in my physical body that all the other teachings did not accomplish. To be specific, I had cronic rib neuritis - VERY painful - that would go away after 3-4 accupressure sessions, only to fire back up 2-3 months later. The teachings in Spiritual Energy Cycles healed this problem - never to return! In addition, I suffered cronic, perpetual anxiety for over thirty years before coming into the understanding of how to put these teachings into effect in my life. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book - and ESPECIALLY the "companion tape" by Jackie Woods on "Meditation and Needs" - to anyone who is serious about maximizing their Spiritual growth. I noticed in the interview of Jackie Woods that she is writing a new book, so I'll be the first in line!

Spiritual Energy Cycles
There are some books you pick up and open where the information on that page is EXACTLY what you need. This is that kind of book. I've read many metaphysical books with exercises at the end of each chapter. This book is about CHANGING YOUR LIFE!

Betrand Russell: pre-eminent pacifist and socialist
World War One was an epoch-making event which transformed the philosophy of Bertrand Russell from based mainly on logic, mathematics and epistemology to haumanitarian issues such as pacificism, freedom and the role of the state. "Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell: Pacifism and Revolution, 1916-18" provides glimpses into this transition and elucidates Russell's main arguments for pacifism and socialism: "No good to the community, of any sort or kind, results from the private ownership of land. If men were reasonable they would decree that it should cease tomorrow..." As private property is protected by the State, and the fraud and plunder that constitute property are sanctioned by legislation and enforced by weapons and war, Russell argued that the State is therefor a great evil and its functions must be taken over by community-based cooperatives and worker's syndicates. Fascinating, provocative and necessary reading.

Colonial Latin America
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (2003)
Authors: Mark A. Burkholder, Lyman L. Johnson, and Russell L. McCormmach
Amazon base price: $31.95
Average review score:

A good survey of colonial Latin America
If you are a novice in the study of colonial Latin America, this book is a good place to start. Burkholder and Johnson have covered just about every aspect of society and politics in colonial Latin America from pre-Columbian cultures to the struggles for independence in the 1800's. The book covers religion, slavery, the environmental impact of Europeans, government structures, gender roles, racial issues, economics, and family history as well as developments back in Europe that had reverberations in Latin America. One very helpful aspect of the book is that unfamiliar Spanish terms are in italics and a glossary of all such italicized words can be found in the back of the book. Most people have heard of Cortes, Montezuma, and Pizarro, but Burkholder and Johnson are especially strong on the less familiar story of what happened once the Spanish and Portuguese had taken control in the New World. This book covers only Spanish and Portuguese America, so if you are interested in the French, Dutch, or English enclaves in the Caribbean, you will need to look elsewhere. Specialists will be familiar with all the themes in this book, but for beginners it is an excellent introduction to the subject. Burkholder and Johnson periodically update the book so as to keep it on the cutting edge of current scholarship. Anyone interested in doing more research will also benefit from up-to-date bibliographies at the end of each chapter.

METALLICA!
Yes! Finally a biography/photo collage, that does justice by Metallica. I picked this up a couple weeks ago because of an essay I had to write for a class of mine, and I was blown away! Metallica was the first band I ever saw live, and this truly captures the effect of the live experience. Minus the druken brawls, bonfires, and

excellent but difficult
i have been reading this book on and off for 10 years. it's very technical in parts, more difficult to read than some of russell's own technical works. but it deals intelligently and informatively with almost all worthy aspects of analytical philosophy. it's not an introduction, rather an informed commentary through the lens of contemporary developments since Russell.

Women and Jesus in Mark: A Japanese Feminist Perspective (Bible & Liberation)
Published in Paperback by Orbis Books (1994)
Authors: Hisako Kinukawa and Letty M. Russell
Amazon base price: $18.00
Average review score:

Interesting Approach
By studying Mark through the light of two little-used lenses (namely, feminist criticism and a Japanese perspective) the author is able to find some startling insights into this gospel. She shines brightest when comparing Mark's social background to Japanese society. Here she is able to relate to a patriarchal culture in a way that most Westerners cannot.
