After 40 some years of living Alaska, I am well aware of the difficulty and seeming impossibility of capturing the great land on film and with words. The true essense and spitituality of this vast offering often eludes our cameras and pens. John has nailed it. His enduring patience and impecable eye for the finest of nature glows from image to image, mushroom ice stands, an otter enjoying a meal, volcanic clouds balloning over stands of towering spruce, an eaglets first moment broken from the shell, in your face bears, all these images and much more inspire me to look harder, go further, and wait longer for more of Alaska than I have ever experienced. The photos are sparkled by John's unique style of writing. After recieving the book as a gift I spent long nights, reading and re-reading his tales of adventure with delight. My work takes me far from home and John's book gives me opportunity to share the true flavors of Alaska with those I meet on the trail. John Pezzenti's photographes portray such beauty and his words flow with spirituality. John Pezzenti's gift for writing matches his talent for capturing nature at it's finest. From the incredible photo's of the birth of an eagle,to the heart felt story of the Birthday Cake Bear. As I look through this magnificent book I feel his photo's and words drawing me in. It gives me the sense that I too am able to share what John Pezzenti must have felt being there. When I was young I went on a cruise to Alaska. I knew that one day I would move to this great land. John Pezzenti's book reinforce's why I kept this dream so close to my heart for all these years. I will always cherish this gift I received and feel blessed that John Pezzenti chose to share his God given talent with the rest of us. Excellent Q and A on the Whitetail and other wild life.A must for those who appreciate the wild.

This book is a question and answer book. The entire book is full questions about the whitetail deer. Leonard usually has data to support his answers to the questions in his book. He also gives other people credit when he uses an answer that he learned from their studies. This is a great book for either beginners or experienced hunters. I have been hunting for 14 years and I learned a lot of things from this book.

What a thrill to see this book back in print. It's first edition was one of the Outdoor Life series and has given us the tools to understand one of North America's most majestic creatures. The life cycle, aging, growth patterns, habitat and environmental needs of the whitetail are explained in detail with the writer's storyteller style mixed in. This book can be understood and enjoyed by young and old, hunters and ranchers, nature lovers and anyone interested in learning more about one of the most unique animals on earth.

Leonard Lee Rue III turns this 'how-to' book into a beginning photographer's dream guide. Without losing any important material, Rue is able to guide the reader through the technical aspects of photography with much ease. In this book Leonard Lee Rue (the most published wildlife photographer in N. America) shares many of his trade secrets from the equipment he uses to the best areas to photograph wildlife. As a naturalist, he is able to delve into animal behavior and discuss a few species in detail to ensure the reader and novice photographer a better understanding and respect for nature and wildlife. It is this aspect to the book that I appreciate the most. Leonard Lee Rue III is a naturalist who is a master of photography. His insight into the wonders of nature and his technical expertise in photography make this book a must have for any aspiring wildlife photographer.

Although the listing says it isn't published yet, it was published in 1997 and I have a copy on my desk. I found the book fascinating. Being a wolf lover (especially the grey wolf of North America) I was enamored upon receipt of the book for Xmas 1997. I would recommend it to anyone who loves wolves or who would like more detail on them. The information is presented in a easy to read format that assumes the reader has some knowledge of the animal without lecturing or presuming that the reader is an expert. All in all a great Sunday read.
