Ground-breaking, became a standard for astrological theory
This book is a basic introduction to the theory of astrological cycles. It is a basic reader for anyone who is interested in the new astrology called 'Humanistic Astrology'. The author's contributions to the theory and practice of astrology have resulted in astrology being updated to modern times by incorporating new concepts from analytical, depth and transpersonal psychology. The ancient concepts of 'square' and 'opposition' have been redefined as events that occur in every cycle--whose purpose is to build structures (relationships) from the new moon beginning to the full moon culmination and back again to the next new moon. By identifying the personality type that we are most readily understand emotionally, The Lunation Cycle provides guidance for the reader to reassess their horoscope in the light of concepts that empower one to validate their own individual, emotional perspective on life. It goes further to redefine the Part of Fortune and discusses the progressed lunation cycle.

One of the best book by Rudhyar
I don't know if lunation technique is popular in modern astrologers or not since I am just enjoying astrology for myself. But this technique Rudhyar reveals in this difinite work really works. Along with his another difinite work, "Astrological Mandala", this book will be a very good spiritual navigator for your life, I believe.

Reveals the deeper cosmic dimensions of astrology
Dane Rudhyar was one of the pioneers of modern astrology, making it relevant to life in the twentieth century and beyond."Astrological Signs : the Pulse of Life" was first published in 1943 and it is still a book that is ahead of its time.Rudhyar was aware that quantum physics was leading science to a world view similar to that of the ancient wisdom."The universe is once more to be understood as an ocean of energies in which two vast complementary tides can be distinguished. Everywhere a dynamic and electrical dualism appears as the foundation upon which all reality stands."Astrology gives humans a pattern of order to which they can look to overcome the chaos of earthly life. The celestial realm is a "greater whole" to which humans can relate and achieve integration beyond fragmenation.Nothing is static, life is a process.Astrology is the study of cyclic processes.Rudhyar looks at what each sign means in its deeper philosophic and cosmic aspects. This book gets down to the philosophic foundations of astrology and shows how relevant it is to modern life. It's a must for a deeper understanding of astrology and the universe we live in.

Sorry the title is a bit dated
For students of Dane Rudhyar (we all are but we don't all know it) and his Astrology of Personality, this little book is a must read. Rudhyar, the musician philosopher humanist expander of consciousness and understander of feminine and masculine relationship, has waxed poetic. This book is poetry. Almost music itself and flooded with light and understanding. Some a bit esoteric but made accessible through lyrics. Here's another book that should never be out of print. It's true the title sounds a bit exclusive but, well, since we are all evolving, sometimes we look back and we might not say the same things the same way ...

Poets know that

I like the man
I did not know the work of Dane Rudhyar. Now that I'm reading this book, I find him a true sage, and a friend. The human mind can be so vast that it can become also fraightful... But with books like this, our inner drive to find meanings in life is enhanced and encouraged.

Astrological Mandala....Rules!
This book of Sabian Symbols has become one of my handiest, most used books. It is not for the faint-of-heart..not for the idle seeker. If you want transformational info, buy this book. Use it for more depth/layers for your natal (birth) chart, your progressed charts, solar returns, etc. Few charts escape its evaluations at my house !

Buy the Book. It is refreshing & splendid.
Review: Dane Rudhyar: An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolic Phases.

Rudhyar's books are like Dane Rudhyar the man,- profound, universal and original- A true Renaissance man. His book is for every thinking person, who wants a guiding star to steer his life's course. Knowledge of astrology is irrelevant here, the casual reader can find much in Rudhyar's book, that will give clues and guidance in dealing with both, disturbing trends in society and anxieties in personal lives. Rudhyar has transformed the zodiac into a re-interpretation of the 'sabian symbols', giving each degree of the circle beginning with Aries 1', ending with Pisces 360', a profound significance that penetrates through the heart of the matter. The Mandala, not being static slowly reveals the "unfoldment of the personality not unlike Jung's process of individuation". Each degree has a mystical and significant interpretation, with exquisite imagery, that delve straight to the core of the problem providing an insight that rivals I Ching, e.g. "(Cancer 29') A Greek Muse weighing Newborn Twins in Golden Scales. Keynote: The Intuitive weighing of alternatives..." A clarifying explanation follows the keynote. These symbols can be a significant tool in the hands of an intuitive reader, who allows the detail of the symbolic image to speak for itself. It is in this potent use of imagery that Rudhyar has distinguished himself.

The book is divided into 4 lucid parts Each part unique and distinct from the whole with a wealth of knowledge and insight in each one. You can enjoy the book flipping through random pages or start from the beginning to the end, either way it will refresh and revitalize your thinking. It lifts astrology from the mundane and turns it into an esoteric philosophy that is completely credible. This book is not a frivolous treatment of planets and aspects. It is a mystical treatise, on the forces that propel or impel our lives and the author has a tenacious understanding of these forces that spin us around.

Buy the book. Read it leisurely at bedtime and savor Rudhyar. At the very least it will sharpen your mental acuity and creative visualization.

Profound, inspired and well thought!!
The basic reason I didn't give this wonderfull book five stars, is that the author in some chapters of the book uses to many words and phrases to share a thought or arrive at a conclusion (A couple of paragraph would be enough, when he uses half a dozen pages), at the risk of loosing the reader along the lines....if you know what I mean.

Flag book that open the door to Astro-Pschology
This book enlighten Astrology with the modern concept of Psychology with elements of both Western and Oriental Philosophies.

House of Vapor
After hearing so many wonderful things about Dane Rudhyar, I read this book and found it extremely vauge and of virtually no use to me. For one thing, there was no discussion of different house systems (Placidus, Koch, Whole-House, etc.) We can hardly know what we mean, until we agree on *what* we are talking about, can we? Many astrologers do not use a House system at all, either abandoning them altogether or--given the controversies over different House systems--use only the angles (Asc/Desc plus MC/IC axes). Assuming you want to use Houses, isn't it enough to know that 1st=Aires, 2=Taurus, etc., and then study and contemplate the meaning of those signs? Nor was there a historical section discussing how Houses arose and what different astrologers in different times and cultures had to say about them. Finally, I find Rudhyar's writing vaporous in the extreme, the kind of language so vague & indefinite that it includes everything and therefore nothing at all: "God, the Universe and everything else." I frankly find his whole approach overly-systematized, viz. the hatchet job he did on Marc Edmund Jone's "Sabian Symbols," wherein he rewrote, re-interpreted and re-arranged the original degree-by-degree readings made by Jone's psychic friend in Balboa Park, San Diego early in the 20th century, in order to conform to Rudhyar's own System. I would advise anyone interested to know more about Houses to read Seymour-Smith's "New Astrologer," which includes an excellent overview and comparison of different House systems.

Outstanding advanced astrology but a bit heavy
Widely acknowledged as a pioneer of modern astrology, Dane Rudhyar is an extraordinary writer. This modern classic is a deep and profound study of the twelve houses, including interpretation guidelines for each of the planets in each house, and an exploration of all the houses together as a complete cycle of experience.

However, this book may not be for everyone. Rudhyar has an extraordinarily universal perspective in his writing, covering a panoramic range of sociological, scientific, philosophical, political and spiritual perspectives as he describes the houses. This is genuinely consciousness-raising in the best sense, but it does sometimes feel a bit of a struggle as Rudhyar goes off on related tangents about individual or collective destiny in the Western world, or a summary of related perspectives from a range of religions. Sometimes it is as though he attempts to embrace the totality of human experience in every sentence!

Stephen Arroyo has acknowledged Rudhyar as a major influence on his writings, and I tend to feel that the essence of Rudhyar is perhaps more accessible through Arroyo's excellent books. Nevertheless this is still quality stuff and well worth a read for any serious astrological student. It does need a bit of effort to get your head round it all!

Essential Groundwork for the student of Astrological Theory
Beware: Rudhyar is not your basic light and easy astrologer. As one of the founders of modern psychological astrology, he doesn't attempt to make things easy or neat or cute for the reader. However, his insights are brilliant, beautifully thought out and he draws heavily from classic western and eastern philosophy, then blends them seamlessly into his discussion in helping us understand the basis for a House system in chart interpretation. Although I've had to leave the book and research quite a few of his references, the study was well worth my time. I find myself constantly returning to this book as a basis for interpreting charts. It is theoretical and philosophical, so those looking for a "how-to" should not go here for their manual. But for anyone seeking true freedom from instant cookbook astrology (as I've seen too often on the Web), this is a "must-have" tool. It gives one confidence in looking at a chart to intuitively see the progression of the human life and the energies that trigger evolution and growth.
