The best European travel book verifed by actual guests
We used Europe's Wonderful Little Hotel's and Inns to plan a trip to Switzerland and Italy. Everything we reviewed in the book was exactly what we encountered on the trip. Since the contents of the book are personal stories and reviews by travelers, there is no bias created by advertisers such as one would find in modern travel books. My only regret in writing this review is that you will buy the book and discover Soglio in Switzerland. This 1000 year old village offers the leading Swiss hospitality at very reasonable rates. This book is a must if you are looking for quality, romantic, and service-oriented establishments off the beaten track. A "must have" for your travel collection. Return the favor to the authors, and submit a summary of your travels for the next edition. Pleasant travels. Al & Diana Wallace, Denver, Colorad

Disappointed
I bought this book because we're going on a trip to the UK. This book did not indicate that the UK wasn't included. Very, very disappointed. I'm sending it back.

The UK is not part of Continental Europe
I do not own this book nor have I read it. I am just balancing the average rating because the last person rated this only as a 1 because it did not include the UK. But title of the book say's The Continent... The UK is not part of the European Continent.

Really useful book but buy it early or else!
This book is great and the only problem is that so many of the entries are wonderdul LITTLE inns that it's hard to find one with space if you wait too long. That happened to me, but I went to check out the top three or so anyway once I got to Paris. They were everything the reader's comments said and more. I only wish that I had planned further in advance. This book is a great resource.

not suitable for ordinary tarveler
I bought this book in order to travel in Italy a different way using small hotels .

I found that most of the offered hotels and inns in Italy are more expensive then regular chain hotels meaning more then $200 for b&b double occup. A ordinary tarveler needs a good clean room, a hot shower and a good breakfast but not for $200 and more. I'm very disappointed

95% dependable
We have been living in Europe for 1-1/2 years. Although this guide seems to be written by and for middle-aged cautious British travelers (no offense), we are not British and not even close to middle-aged and have stayed at 5 of the hotels and found them great. Although not cheap, the prices, are not crazy and are all clearly marked in the guide and phone numbers are listed so one could verify the cost. This is definitely not the ''rough guide'' (which we also use for longer trips). This guide is for people who want a very nice place to stay, maybe for one or two days, and who want a break from the chain hotels we are all used to on business trips. It is for people who appreciate not just warm shower water and a towel, but a nice bowl of fresh fruit in the room, and a substantial breakfast and a friendly host that doesn't make you feel like your plastic hilton key-card. The food at all 5 of the hotels we chose was amazing (we pretty much base our trips around food and architecture anyway...). We have given this book to friends visiting us and they are completely satisfied. In addition, the book survives on readers' reviews, so it is only as good as the reports that come in.

Best lodging guide for Europe we have found
While living in Europe the past three years, we have found this reference an indispensible tool for finding wonderfully pleasant accommodations. We have stayed in over 20 of the guest-only recommended hotels & inns throughout the continent and have yet to be disappointed.
