Barbara Hinkel's Ettiquette Book
This book deserves five stars because it includes lots of information. It isn't as easy or funny as the lessons, but it's still really good

I LEARNED AS MUCH AS MY 12-YEAR OLD!
My daughter received a copy of this book as part of a cotillion class. She has reviewed various sections of the book as different social situations have presented themselves. The book is written with a young person in mind; it is concise, funny when appropriate, and answers a lot of questions the kids might not even know they have yet. As a mom, I found it very helpful not only in teaching my child the rudimentaries of etiquette, but in providing me with a refresher course for both business and personal situations. I have also found it extremely helpful for the dance steps; the combination of the written instruction and the ubiquitous feet make it easy to learn a new dance.

Barbara Hinkel's Etiquette and Cotillion Program, Level 1
Reviewed by ATH, age 12: I thought that the book was excellent! It explained many hard-to-understand topics pertaining to etiquette rules. After reading this book, you will have no more questions about manners and will never feel uncomfortable at parties. This easy-to-read and understand book tells you everything you need to know about etiquette and more!(Tips on dressing, dancing, manners, etc.) It is a good value for the money since you can keep it and refer to it whenever you have a question. I highly recommend this book to anyone over the age of 11.

A very personal reader response
Dear Mr. Rowe:

Your caregiver's guide is wonderful and most appreciated. I don't feel quite as alone as I did prior to reading ALZHEIMER'S (A Caregiver's Day-By-Day Account). In the event you write a sequel, please let me know...

Thanks again,

S.J (Sunnyvale, CA)

"The money was well spent."
The book I bought from you was a steal as far as I'm concerned. I had no real problem understanding it.Sometimes I'd get a little lost with details, but would just read it over. I truly enjoyed it and feel the money was well spent.

Philosophy of Religion: Selected Readings

an advanced introduction to Philosophy of Religion
This is a good text although I suspect that any students lower than higher-intermediate or advanced undergraduate levels would find it very difficult. I found it to often presuppose that the reader was already fairly philosophically sophisticated, so I suspect the introductory student would get quite lost (and bored), unless the class were going at a quite slow speed (which is often the speed that good philosophy is done). So, I don't think I'd recommend this book to students without much philosophy background. It'd be good for more advanced students though.

The 'Notes' and 'For Further Reading' sections were full of good sources for scholars and students to track down.

Lucid and Concise
Many philosophers are struck with the unbearable "long-windedness", which is in fact surprising when you consider their aim of rationality. Wainwright's Philosophy of Religion deals beautifully with the dreaded long-windedness through concise exegeses and a thoughtful introduction to many of the pressing topics in this field. This is definitely the book to get for beginners.

Transparency

Authors: Colin Rowe, Robert Slutzky, and Bernhard Hoesli
Amazon base price: $19.95

Impenetrable
Rowe's obtuse, convoluted writing style buries his ideas in a morass of verbal sludge, rendering them totally inaccessible to the layman and barely comprehensible to the typical architecture student. After encountering this book several times in the course of various classes, I was surprised to realize how comparatively simple the ideas it contains are. In the typical fashion of upper-level humanities academia, however, Rowe hides his point behind impossibly twisted sentences and an onslaught of outside references that seems designed more to impress the reader with Rowe's own wide-ranging knowledge than to enlighten. The ideas of this book could be condensed to a short essay, and the only thing lost would be the page count.

Not out of print
This book is not out of print and is available from the publisher. It has been published in Germnan and in English so if you want an English version make sure you order the correct edition.

a must for students
I'm a student, Transperency: the book gives you a new way to think about architecture, outlining a basic characteristic in architecture that transcends major movements. Crucial to the understanding of buildings. best of all. .. Colin Rowe is really easy to read.

A great book, very informative!
Bert does not fit the typical "stereotype" I'm sure many people have. He's not gay for one thing. Most cross-dressers aren't, but there is so little information in the "real world". This book is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend it for married couples dealing with these issues. Bert is basically your average guy, except for the fact he likes wearing dresses!

Bert & Lori : The Autobiography of a Crossdresser
THe Autobiography of a cross-dresser was a unique book, It gave the reader a unique understnading of cross-dressing from the cross-dresser and from his own words. It also gives a history of when the author started and How it affects his life now, All in All it was a good book

would have made a nice article
The idea behind this book is great, but its information could easily fit into a 3-page article in Woman's Day or a similar popular magazine. I expected to learn much more than I did from this very repetitive book. (It almost made me feel like I was aging on the spot: "Hey, didn't I just read that a few pages ago? Am I forgetting or imagining things?")

Successful Aging
I stumbled upon the book strictly by accident and ended up paying full list price at Barnes and Noble. After seeing the really great prices on Amazon, I reluctently sat down to read a few chapters to try and get my monies worth. Wow. To say the book was enlightening would be to offer a dis-service to the multi-year McArthur Foundation Study. I picked up a few things from the book that most readers will not and that is basic assumptions that Private Foundations and Private Research gathers far more information about a subject than Government sponsored projects. It occured to me that Government has pretty muched screwed up Social Security as well as providing for long term health care in America. Successful Aging gives an alternative to spending your final years in a Nursing Home. The book is very well thought through, well researched and backed up with countless citations that give credit where credit is due. I found the book an enjoyable read, almost a primer. After reading this book, I ordered out about three hundred dollars worth of additional books on aging. That should tell you something. By the way, I ordered another copy of the book in out of print library edition to add to my collection. Great Book! Great Read! Don't get old without it!

Should be a classic
The research findings reported in Successful Aging have been supported in a new 20-year study by an independent group of researchers. The study by Becca Levy of Yale Univerisity, et al, was reported in 2002. Simply stated, we can decide now to live longer and better. Having a positive attitude about aging is alone responsible for extending life by 7.5 years, and years of activity and involvment, not suffering. This is a very worthwhile read, despite what some stupid old fools have written before.

Good For Beginners
This book starts with the basics of gambling on Thoroughbreds and goes to mostly money management issues and strictly mechanical systems based upon final betting odds. Very outdated.

Good beggining material
This book written by expeirienced handicapper Robert Rowe is good starting material for the begginer. It explains all the basics the wagers the odds and so on. But when I happened upon this book a year or so ago I already had been handicapping sussesfully for 4 or so years. So I'll assign 2 ratings for the begginer this is 5 stars for the intermediate level 3 stars. And if your advanced don't bother.

Very useful statistical data relative to betting horses
I'm familiar with Bob Rowe's work from American Turf, Racing Star Weekly and other publications. He's a good writer and knows racing as evinced by his latest and best book How To Win At THOROUGHBRED Racing. The current tome, How to Win At Horse Racing, contains much useful information but seems to me as if an editor was over zealous, and should have left Rowe's original words as submitted. Nonetheless, this doesn't distract from the essence of the information provided. Rowe has been writing about racing since I was 17. I'm 67 now. He obviously knows which end kicks and which end bites.

Sorry, but not worth the price
I had ordered this book to be shipped express, as my mother has senile dementia., and I thought I could find out more about Medicaid. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED to see how this book was packaged for the price. It had said SPIRAL-BOUND, (which in itself is not expensive)., and instead I got a book with a cover that costs probably $1.00 from the drugstore. Also, glancing through the info., I knew most of it from talking to social workers and others., or from getting pamphlets or just asking questions., so I don't really see where the info is that you can't get anywhere else. It might be a little helpful for someone just starting the process., but not at all worth the price. Most I would have paid is 1/4 what the author/publisher charges. Sorry! . . .

Invaluable help not available from any other source.
This book tells,in six clearly defined steps, HOW to find a decent Alzheimer's nursing facility and HOW to get financial assistance from Medicaid. No important detail is neglected. This is information you cannot get from any other source. The author has personally and successfully gone the full route. He tells the reader what to expect. How to overcome problems along the way, and how to respond to Medicaid's numerous requests for verifications. Many, if not most attorneys would charge $1,500 for providing assistance when applying for Medicaid financial help.
