Invaluable for helping twins, siblings, friends & family.
There are plenty of books about twins for adult readers; this appeals to young picturebook readers with a photo-filled account of twins and their differences and similarities. This much-needed book is a 'must' for any collection seeking family-oriented books: it helps siblings understand the different possibilities and personalities of twins.

About Twins
It is a charming book with beautiful photo illustrations. It carries a very simple but important message that even very young children can enjoy. It is my very favorite picture book about twins.

Wonderful photographs!
I am a speech pathologist in an elementary school in New Jersey. I am very fond of this book as are the children I work with. However, I had borrowed it from the school library, and had to return it now that the school year is almost over. So..I have decided to buy it, and have it for my very own library. It is colorful, realistic, and stimulates much discussion from children.

Feeling Thankful

Beautiful Book
This book simply touched me as I looked at the beautiful photographs of children expressing thanksgiving for the things and people in their lives. Young children will be able to express their own feelings of gratitude as they look at the photos. Older children could even make a book of a similiar format themselves with their own personal photos or drawings. This is not a preachy book, but simply shows children things they can be thankful for. It is not necessarily a "Thanksgiving" holiday book...but is a super book for that time of the year.

my kids love this book!
My three- and five-year old children love this book. I found my three- year old telling her teacher how pepperoni is "peppery meat that comes from pigs," which is a direct quote from the book! The book is effective in helping youngsters understand that their meals and food items don't just exist in nature as they appear on the plate, and gives them a sense of how the environment relates to our food and bodies. The illustrations are colorful and practical, and aid in a child's understanding of the text.

Nature, Up-Close and Personal
This book, with actual photographs, is an excellent book to use with primary age children. Children can discover the patterns in nature by seeing objects up-close.

Pick a Pet
A photographic essay on what pet Patty should pick, with one sentence per page detailing the animals her friends own. She has a dream sequence where she sees real and imagined animals. In the end she wakes up and decides to get a puppy. No information about the different pets is given. Contains excellent color illustrations and will be of interest to K through the 2nd grade.

Published in Hardcover by Atheneum (1991)
Authors: Marjorie N. Allen and Shelley Rotner
Amazon base price: $14.00
Average review score:

Nicely photographed book of how things change
With crisp, colorful photographs, this simple book illustrates how plants, seasons, animals and other things take on changes.

Books like this serve to demonstrate specific topics while being somewhat limited in the stories told. It does serve an educational purpose, though.
