Excellent Book
This book is a great way for anyone to polish their math / verbal skills for the SAT. The lax mood of the book makes the SAT seem less formidable, and maybe even "enjoyable"(yea right). Of course, everyone feels more comfortable knowing that the authors of the book scored higher than a 1500, which is pretty good. This book doesn't waste time providing futile practice tests which fail to simulate the actual SAT. Instead, they encourage you to buy 10 Real SATs, which is really the best way to help you improve. The book contains useful tricks and even some shortcuts. The only way this book could have possible been better is by having a section which accentuated on math shortcuts, but nothing is perfect. When the new SAT comes out in 2005, alot of people are going to wish that this book is still out there for the new one. Overall, great prep book, and there's no harm in buying it -- it's cheap and useful.

Definately the best how-to SAT book out there!
Save yourself $ and buy this book instead of taking an SAT course. I read it about 5 months before I took the SAT and it still helped me tremendously. It's actually exciting to read, all my friends borrowed it! I got a 1380 first try, a score most of my friends didn't beat despite spending over $1,000 on a Princeton Review course. I plan to reread it before I take the SAT again in April and I'm confident I'll break the 1400 mark! Even if you think you're prepared for the SAT, this is a great resource if only for the fact that it makes studying for the SAT fun. GET THIS BOOK!

"awesome"
This book is awesome due to the fact that it is written by six top notch students with a sense of humor. The half of the puns and jokes are actually funny and will, just like everyone here said, keep you motivated (as far as you can go with a test prep book). 3 of the writters have scored 1600s and they know the ways to help you get a good score too, such as skills of concentration, preparation, food smuggling and cheating. This book is a definite recommend for anyone serious with the SATs.
Get this book and a book with a lot of practice questions and you are set.

An EXTREMELY Helpful Book
I took the SAT in both 7th and 8th grade as part of a special academic program, I took practice tests both years, read the book both years and improved my score (over the practice) more than 100 points. This book has everything from how to fill in the answer bubbles quickest to how to solve specific math problems to what you should do the night before the test. There is humor in the book, some of it very funny, much of it only so-so (I can forgive them for that). Buy this book well in advance, because it takes a while to read; also, they have SAT-type words you should know, that they tell you how to remember - I didn't start reading far enough in advance to even attempt to learn them, but the book helped anyway. A must for anyone who wants to improve their score, be it from a 900 to a 1000, or a 1500 to a 1600.

Quite Humorous
If you have to get one SAT book (but why would you? =), this is a good book to get. From the start, they say they will not produce fluffy fake questions that can be found in other books, instead they reccomend you get 10 Real SATs (which is very good advice). While most of the information in here can be found in other SAT Prep books, say the Princeton Review, this book is much more funnier than their counterparts. If you need an example, check one of the last chapters where it describes how you should bubble in those pesky circles. It also goes into fairly good detail about the SAT2 Writing test (which also means it covers the PSAT Writing Section) as well.

Invaluable
I used very few books to help me prepare for the SAT. In addition to the book published by the College Board with 10 practice SATs, this is the book to get. The tips on the verbal section are invaluable. Learning vocabularly and how to do analogies and reading comprehensive is fine. But the challenge for most of us taking the SAT is not knowing the meanings of words, but how to think on the SAT. The verbal section of An Underground Guide teaches you how to decipher the patterns of the verbal section. It needs to be read if you are looking for 50-100 points improvement on the verbal. If you are looking for math help, however, this book will not help you very much.

Great for SAT Prep!
I highly recommend Up Your Score for students trying to improve their SAT scores. It is very easy to read and extremely informative. The authors write it from a student's perspective, and include some humorous and light-hearted comments. Excellent strategies are included for sentence completions, analogies, and critical reading sections. There is also an exhaustive vocabulary list for those students willing to increase their vocabulary. The math sections are also worthwhile. Unlike other SAT prep books, this book is readable and not formidable like many other huge SAT prep books that weigh a ton! Great job done by these authors!
