Best of the Apple Histories
This is a well written book that expertly envisions the story of Apple's early years. Rose provides an in-depth look at the people involved and draws out the fascinating stories that surround Apple's early existence. This is by far the most accessible and enjoyable account of Apple's founding. The only problem is that it was written in the early '90's and doesn't reach the amazingly entertaining last few years the company has gone through. If only Rose would write a sequel...

Absolutely brilliant
Incredibly fascinating book that takes you on an intense and vivid tour of how Apple was started and what went on behind the scenes. Highly readable and very tough to put down.

Fascinating read
West of Eden reads like a novel which makes me wonder if it's all true. After having it gather dust on my shelves for years I finally decided to read it and it's fascinating. I had a hard time tearing myself away in order to get my final progamming assignment done. Whether it's all fact or not one thing's for sure: now that Steve Jobs has been back at Apple for a while I hope Mr. Rose writes a followup!

This Book Makes You Think!
Audrey Rose was a fabulous book about a girl named Ivy who actually had lived another life and was a little girl named Audrey Rose and when Audrey Rose died she was born again as Ivy, Audrey Rose's soul was reborn into Ivy's body. I liked everything about this book but the only thing that I found unrealistic was that Ivy was about 9 or 10 years old and was 5 feet 9 inces tall and had large fully developed breasts among other things but that's really the only negative thing I can think of about this book and it's a minor complaint and I recommend this book greatly! Oh by the way I don't find reincarnation terrifying, the Hindu religion of India believes in reincarnation and considers it a beautiful thing to be able to live again and they don't find it terrifying, oh I suppose if reincarnation is not part of your religious beliefs you might find it scary because people always fear things that are different or can't easily be explained, my religion doesn't believe in reincarnation but I don't dismiss the idea of it and find the idea of maybe being able to come back and live life all over again interesting, of course it would be cool if you had the choice of whether you would want that or not. Sorry, I guess I am just in a philosophical mood today!

This book changed the way that I view life and death.
Having read this book at a somewhat impressionable age (15yrs.) I can say that it made me think, not only about death but life. I am now 36 years old and I can still remember every essence of the characters in the book. I can remember how the descriptive writing swept me up and away to places I had never been, writing so descriptive that the movie "Audrey Rose", with its flat characters, paled in comparison. A book that influenced me so that when my husband was killed just 6 weeks after our sons birth I new that my husband lived on in the child that we had tried for 2 years to conceive. This novel is a masterpiece a classic. "Reincarnation?" Reading "Audrey Rose" taught me, "If it's conceivable, it's believeable."

Amazing Book!!!!
Audrey Rose is a very good book, it is about reincarnation, I know some don't believe in reincarnation but I think anything is possible. Who Knows! In the book a man named Elliot Hoover approaches a couple named Bill and Janice Templeton with the claim that their daughter Ivy's soul is the reincarnation of his daughter Audrey Rose who died the same day Ivy was born. They made a movie from this book that was also very good, only thing is I don't understand why both book and movie are always listed as horror, I don't really see it as a horror story but more like a psychological, drama and mystery and suspence especially the mystery of the afterlife!I highly recommend both the book and movie!

Captivating story of one of advertising's greatest triumphs
With the low-brow humor of "whazzzzzup" and high-speed editing of MTV-style ads dominating the landscape, it's almost hard to imagine how memorable the quaint multi-sign Burma-Shave ads were. The combination of clever verse and brilliant exposition -- stretching along the wide-open road until the punch line could be delivered -- is unlike any other ad delivery in history.

Author Frank Rowsome, Jr. tells the story of the campaign's creation and life, and provides a listing of all signs from the first in1927 ("Shave the modern way / No Brush / No Lather / No Rub-in / Big Tube 35-c Drug Stores / Burma Shave") through their last in 1963 ("Our Fortune / Is Your / Shaven Face / It's Our Best / Advertising Space / Burma-Shave"). In between is an amazingly clever collection of poems, including contest winners, shorter signs for smaller displays, spin-off tooth powder and lotion jingles, and regional ads.

Great reading for those remembering the signs as well as those who just want to get a smile from some great advertising - one of the USA's most underappreciated art forms.

Best of nostalgia
I read this book twenty odd years ago, and I loved it. It brought back such fond childhood memories of my days on the farm in Belsano, PA, where a set of the signs stood soldier-like in the lower field of my grandad's farm. I heard from the grown-ups that someone paid him to put them there, and money was scarce in those days.

I was always intrigued by those signs, so when I saw the book advertised for the first time, it was a must-have for me. I cherished owning a complete set of the verses, most of which I'd never seen.

The book is well-written in that it has a lot of historical fact, loads of humor, and the story-telling holds your interest to the last page. One of those "can't put it down" types.

Somewhere in my travels, I've lost my copy and have mourned it's loss. Thanks to Internet, I will once again have my own cherished copy of "Verse by the Side of the Road."

A must for old car buffs!
If you currently own a car built before 1965, there's a pretty good chance you remember driving past those wonderful Burma Shave signs.

How delightful those signs were as we went on Sunday drives with Mom and Dad. Here is not only the complete history of the company but also ALL of the rhymes.

Sorry but I Just Didn't Like it!
I didn't like this book, I liked the original book but this sequel just didn't cut it! The book had potential and started off okay but the plot quickly fell apart and by the end I was very disappointed and dissatisfied, I would recommend the original Audrey Rose book and the movie instead.

It's Awful
I too liked the original Audrey Rose book and when I saw that the author wrote a sequel I bought the book and read For Love of Audrey Rose and like these other reviewers I found the book disappointing and the characters who I liked in the first book were total strangers to me, they had the same name as the original characters but did not resemble them at all, it was like who are you people and what did you do with Janice, Elliot and Bill? I could see Bill having a mental breakdown after the death of his beloved daughter Ivy but a lot of things in the book didn't work for me, first of all the affair between Janice and Elliot bothered me becasue she was still married to Bill and I always thought of Elliot as being a very moral, spiritual man and I just didn't see him as the type of guy who would sleep with a married woman so his affair with Janice seemed really out of place and out of character! My advice buy the first book which is called Audrey Rose and avoid this mess, I myself want to remember how much I liked Audrey Rose and forget I ever read this sequel and completely purge it from my mind! For the love of the original Audrey Rose book do not read For Love of Audrey Rose! I really wish I was able to rate this lower then a 1.

Much better then the reviews its been given.
I just finished reading De Feitta's, Audrey Rose, and was mildly interested in the sequel "For the Love of..." After reading the review here on Amazon[.com], I was getting the feeling that the story was going to be horrible, in fact it wasn't.

I started reading with low expectations, the original novel, was well written, and I was finding it hard to believe that this author would massacre his characters as the reviews here lead you to believe. I feel Janice's journey to India, and Bill's madness, after the death of his child were believable esp since Bill's rigidness was established in the first book. I also believe that Hoover had mild affections for Janice in the first book, esp with the difficult choices she made in going against her husband in the trial, thru their pain they bonded.

I am not one to usually listen to reviews; I take them with a grain of salt. I feel "For the Love." should be given a chance, if you trust the author, you will like the book. The Journey is a bit different and its not as strong as the original, but it holds up wonderfully on its own, and in the end I believe Janice's love For Elliot, even though they may never be together.
