An Excellent Medical Transcription Reference
Being in the medical transcription field having to look up new words and decipher dialects, this is one book every transcriptionist should have. To look up a word by disease and/or symptom is a lot faster than a flashlight without batteries in the dark! I highly recommend this book to medical transcriptionists whether a beginner, intermediate or experienced one.

Medical Phrase Index
This latest revision - 4th edition (10/15/01) is even easier to use and more comprehensive (250,000+ entries) than previously. This is truly THE medical phrase resource. Nothing else comes close! We use it dozens of times a day.

Required MT resource
When one hears one word in a phrase but is not sure of others, this resource is invaluable. Of all my resources for medical transcription, this is one of the few I use every day. Can't live without it.

Realistic recipes, informative, balanced, easy to read
This cookbook is extremely helpful for those who wish to incorporate natural foods such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables into their diet without sacrificing taste and without being a gourmet cook. Different foods are listed and given their particular health benefits. There are also quite a few different and simple diet plans that pertain to specific health concerns, i.e. preventing cancer, lowering cholestoral, weight loss, etc. All in all this cookbook is something of an encyclopedia and a comprehesible, easy to follow, and informative sensible eating guide.

This is the best book I have seen on foods that heal .
Very informative! There is a whole section on the healing properties of the foods which are used in the book. You can look up different types of ailments and find out what foods to eat for that condition. It has great pictures and the recipes are easy to prepare. I give it 2 thumbs up!

An excellent guide to preparing meals that are truly healthy
I love this cookbook! It has great, simple recipes. If you have to cook, why not cook the best you can for your family. You can really focus in on the beneficial foods for your family. A win-win situation when it comes to cooking good tasting but absolutely nutritional meals. Highly recommended.

The Confessions and Correspondence, Including the Letters to Malesherbes (The Collected Writings of Rousseau, Vol 5)
Published in Paperback by Dartmouth College (1998)
Authors: Christopher Kelly, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Roger D. Masters
Amazon base price: $28.00
Average review score:

This series of Rousseau's collected works is wonderful. . .
This series published by Dartmouth and the University Press of New England is excellent in every way: superb translations based on reliable texts with helpful notes and introductory essays. If you're looking for an edition of Rousseau's "Confessions," forget the obsolete Penguin paperback and stop right here! It's too bad that more of these volumes are not available in paperback--I have only the "Confessions" and "Julie, or the New Heloise," Rousseau's massive and wonderful novel. I imagine that if this series had been published by Princeton as a Bollingen series that it would be available as a complete paperback series, like their edition of the works of Kierkegaard. As it is, you can't go wrong with the Dartmouth edition of "Julie" and the "Confessions"! (Also, by far the best translation of Rousseau's classic "Emile" ever to appear in English, by Bloom, is published by Basic Books.)

Great edition of this classic
What can one say about The Confessions? I would recommend this particular edition because of the inlusion of the letters to Malesherbes, which can shed some light on the process Rousseau's writing of The Confessions. We can also see where the text differs from what actually happaned: there are some discrepiences in his re-telling of the same event. There is as well an excellent introductory essay.

Jean Barois
Published in Paperback by French & European Pubns (01 October, 1972)
Author: Roger Martin du Gard

A Masterpiece for a Select Audience
This is the second book by Martin du Gard that I have read. I enjoyed the first one, "The Thibaults", but I was uncertain of its' message. I do not have such doubts about "Jean Barois". There are actually two topics of note in this novel. The primary one is the on-going debate between Christianity and what we have come to call "secular humanism". The novel begins and ends with this theme. In the middle half of the book, however, is another subject; The Dreyfus Affair.

Persons interested in the debate between religion vs. atheism will find this a fascinating book. The author really does justice to both sides of the issue and brings out the best artillery that each side had to offer. The main character is a person who has gone out of his way to denounce all faith as meaningless. He losses his wife and other loved ones in his adamant refusal to just show up for any Christian rites. It's not enough to decline, he must also ridicule.

The middle portion of the novel is a terrific insight to the affair of Captain Dreyfus. In case you aren't aware of this notorious event in French History, it has to do with a French officer (Dreyfus) being found guilty of treason and exiled to Devil's Island. It so happens that Captain Dreyfus is a Jew which many believe to be the reason that he was charged and convicted. Some years after his conviction evidence came to light that exonerated the Captain and created a scandal for the whole French military. (For some who have developed particular opinions of the French in the last 6 months, this might be reason enough to read the book). The events unfold through the eyes of Jean Barois and his compatriots who publish a political magazine. The heated discussions that these gentlemen have effectively draws out the various perspectives of the scandal and its' affect on France.

The novel then finds it way back to the subject of religious faith vs. scientific fact. This happens by the emergence of a new character and her affect on Monsiuer Barois. Again the debate is heavily engaged and the reader will probably again be impressed by how the author is able to argue both positions so well. Ultimately we see the author's preferred response to the issue but proponents of the oposite view will come away feeling that they had a fair hearing.

For those interested in the two subjects I have cited, this book is a masterpiece of literature and should not be missed! For those not interested in the about subjects, this book should still be an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I admit I was a bit confused by the dual subject matter and the almost abrupt change from one to the next. However, I think the author did so to bring out the passion that was within Jean Barois and how it was, for a time at least, able to replace the passions of faith that exist in others. This book was written 90 years ago but its' meaning and relevance is quite contemporary. It may be hard to find but it'll be worth the effort.

Jean Barois
The story is centerd in an atheus man,Jean Barois, and the conflict,of not believing in a God and the need to do so.
The majesty in wich du Gard treats a theme of special difficulty: the religious problematic of the modern man, makes this one of the most characteristic and suggestive books in modern french literature.

Not recomended to people who have doubts in they're religious faith. ;)

Terrific recipes--every one!
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. Everything I have made from it has been easy to prepare and delicious. I am buying a copy for a friend. My copy is marked up with comments on all the recipes I have made. The most common word in my notes is "Excellent"! The Chicken Cacciatore (served with orzo, not brown rice) has become a family favorite. A treasure full of healthy, easy to prepare Italian recipes.

Focaccia, pasta, cannoli, wow!
This is Italian food with pizazz...and better yet, each recipe is low-fat and luscious. Prevention outdid all the others in helping me make healthier choices with my favorite food, Italian!

Dinosaurs Are 568
A great story about Raymond, who would rather play Robinson Crusoe than go to school. Ultimately, his love of dinosaurs helps to change his mind about school. He finds that the library is a great place to learn about dinosaurs and many other things such as whales. This love eventually leads to Raymond becoming quite the celebrity at school! My 7 yr old daughter loved this book so much, she used it for her big class report. Now she's reading "Raymonds Best Summer".

Excellant
Excellent discourse. This book discusses some of the rudiments of the history of inequality and how its self supporting and ever existing in human nature. I recommend this book for those readers who either want to increase their knowledge on Jean-Jacques Rousseau or historical development of inequality

For those who want to further their command over Rousseau's life- I suggest them to read 'Confessions' by Rousseau.

A cookbook really that delivers what it promises!
I recommend this book wholeheartedly! Not only are the finished dishes savory and attractive, but they are also low-in-fat AND elegant enough for entertaining. Add a salad, bread, and a dessert, and you have a dinner party, created with remarkably little fuss. Many of the recipes only improve in flavor when made ahead, too, and freeze well.

great in-depth curriculum
This secular curriculum has been an invaluable resource in the homeschooling of my son this year. The lesson plans are very in-depth, easy to follow and well thought out. I also appreciate the wealth of added lesson plans and activites that are included. I supplement and subtract according to the level of my son's understanding. It's a great guide for me as his teacher. The only negative I've found is with the quality of the paperback itself. The cover tears from the book binding. This happened with both books I bought. The first book I returned. My second book just tore recently. I would recommend if this book is printed again that the publishers consider putting it in a ring binder which would better hold up and be more practical in a homeschool setting. Overall, I highly recommend this book to homeschoolers.

Can't Ask For Much More!
This is my first year homeschooling and this book has been my lifesaver. It lays everything out for me so I spend more time educating my son instead of developing lesson plans. The only thing that was frustrating for me was having to flip back and forth between the sections. This and copying the accompanying worksheets probably contributed to my front cover separating from the book. I like the fact that I can supplement or substitute in areas that I choose. Overall, a must have for the homeschooling family on a budget.

We love it!
I am currently homeschooling my 5-year-old daughter using this curriculum and so far it has been an absolute pleasure! The daily lesson plans and supporting activities provide an excellent springboard for us to work from. The corresponding worksheets are not only educational, they're also fun for my daughter to do. I can't print them up fast enough for her!

I don't know whether or not they fixed the problem with the binding (see below), but so far I've scanned most of the worksheets in the book and it's held up very well.

This book is concise, thorough and easy to navigate. I highly recommend it to anyone who has decided to homeschool their first-grader and doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg for their curriculum.

Low-fat Gourmet cooking?
This book is fantastic. Everything tastes like gourmet cooking.
Some of the recipes are fairly simple while others are not. This book is great for people who love to cook and want low-fat alternatives that taste great. Fair warning though this isn't one of those quickie meal recipe books. It is the best cookbook I own, regardless of the low-fat. It gives tons of information on exotic as well as common ingredients. It is a great gourment recipe book as well as instructional cooking book.
