The Prodigal Daughter
Magnificent mystery, compelling characters, rousing romance...Shadow of Dreams contains all three in abundance. Everson and Chadwick create vivid word pictures that evoke the essence of the scenes they're relating - you live in the pictures and walk with the characters. From the squalid slums of New York to its scintillating skyscrapers, you walk every step with Katie as she remembers and relives her past and relishes her present - only to have her reality changed again as she's chased South to a home she'd abandoned so many years before. It's as Katie comes home that the tenor changes and the characters step off the pages. All of us can remember our home towns, the way we felt growing up, how eagerly we left, how reluctantly we return...knowing you can't really come home again. Yet Katie does come home - and the prodigal is eventually forgiven. No parent really ever gives up on a child. But the telling and the introduction of the people she once knew draw us into her story and life. We know that these people will again be critically important to Katie - and that her best friend from the past, Marcy, will be her best friend again.

I feel as if these characters are MY new best friends and I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel to see what happens next! This is definitely the start of a brilliant career in mystery writing - give us more and soon!

A Must Read!
Eva Marie Everson And G.W. Francis Chadwick have written a wonderful novel that kept me involved from the first page to the last!

Katie Morgan ran away from home when she was 18 and hasn't seen or spoken to her mother in twenty-five years. She wishes she could forget the shame she feels from the bad choices she made those first few years she lived in New York City. When she returns to rural Georgia twenty-five years later she must deal with the pain in her past and seek to restore relationships with her family and friends.

The lessons on forgiveness and coming home are heartwarming. The suspense and mystery surrounding Katie, her husband, and his business associates also adds excitement to the novel.

I hope the authors don't keep us waiting too long for the sequel!

HELD MY ATTENTION.....GREAT READ.....BUYING MORE!!!
Just finished reading Eva Marie's book......it held my attention and was a great read. Fell in love with Katie's character immediately....the thought "what was around the corner on the next page?" kept me going. The journey back home in our lives is often joyous, often difficult, and sometimes healing. We travelled with Katie to the place of her childhood and found relationships changed.

The "shadow" of her early days followed her. Life in the darness needed the truth of light and that's where restoration began for Katie. A mother's forgiveness and love began that process. A town's acceptance was part of that restoration as well.

This is a marvelous book to give to family members where relationships need mending. I am buying four for my own family.

Now.....we must wait for the sequel....can hardly wait!!!!

Absolutely Fantastic...gardener or not, don't miss this one.
Reading Eva Shaw's book was like sitting out in the garden having a heart to heart chat with a best friend. Shovel It came about b/c the author was curious as to why gardeners appear happier and healthier. She's done her homework and now even reports in the AMA state that gardening could improve your life, maybe even save it per Dr. Shaw and her research.
The subject matter is wonderful, chock full of ideas and suggestions at growing a garden that is perfect JUST FOR YOU.I loved the "gardening personality" test and so will you. But what I especially loved is Eva Shaw's no nonsense, down home friendly way of writing.I just love this book...it is upbeat, positive and downright funny at times. But it also hits on the truths of the ups and downs we ALL experience in life and how the simple act of gardening can and will restore us. I've already given my sister a copy and I want to order 10 more for gifts. If you're a gardener already, you will defiitely smile and relate to these pages. If you're not, read it because I bet you'll be a gardener before you're done. Thank you Eva Shaw!

Shovel it with Shovel It:Nature's Health Plan
Eva's done it again. Imparting her down-to-earth good sense, she talks with her reader ' never at them ' as only a friend could. A perfect book for these turbulent and unsettling times, Eva reminds us of what is good in life. And, she encourages us to take the time to enjoy it. A must-have read for all gardeners ' or those who want to garden.

To borrow from a popular credit card commercial: Shovel It: Nature's Health Plan, (...); gardening gloves, $5; a pack of seeds, $2; a mitt full of soil and endless hours of soul-soothing enjoyment ' priceless.

Green Thumbs Up!
Shovel It: Nature's Health Plan by Eva Shaw,Ph.D.is a must have during these turbulant times. Each chapter is an adventure, filled with down to earth (excuse the pun) healthful, helpful stategies.
Working the soil with my hands has become a spiritual, calming and most importantly, a healing experience. This text is written in a candid and refreshing manner. I, a confirmed couch potatoe, now enjoy gardening. In the process, discovered that even I could have "a green thumb".
Please, if life has lost its joy, buy this book. Read it, even if you never touch soil, but I think you will.

good romantic suspense
Victoria Holt truly lived up to her reputation as the queen of romantic suspense. This story combines nicely a romance with political intrigues and murders. What i like about a VH book is that the setting is always done so well i can even feel the real world in the book.
Some complaints about the story, though.(1) Conrad professes to love Philippa, yet never shows any hint of trust in her in the matter of her sister's marriage. (2)Only after seducing her does he let her know he can only keep her as his mistress and never even ask how she feels about it. That looks like cheating to me.(3)The story gets very redundant and repetitive halfway through. Whenever they meet, Conrad is forever whining that he loves Philippa, that he can't live without her; and Philippa is always busy thinking of how she is affected by him and whether she should stay with him or not.
Despite those problems, overall this book is still very enjoyable.

One of my personal top 5 for Victoria Holt
"Lord of the Far Island" is deffinatly the most suscpencful novel by Victoria Holt. She doesn't give away the ending at all. Just when you think you have the mystery solved, she'll prove you wrong. This is a must read book!

I LOVE this book.
Victoria Holt is my Favorite Author. This book is my favorite. I have read all her and philippa Carrs books! Philippa Ewell's siter runs away with a Baron to his land. Phillipa gets 2 letters and then they stop. SHe finds an old new-paper clipping from the year before talking about the Baron and her sister. They had been murdered. She goes off to find the truth about her sisters death and falls in love, almost gets killed and finds the truth.

If you want to cook like a Greek, this is the book to get!
This book has the best recipes for authentic Greek foods. The baklava recipe is excellent. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn the art of Greek cooking!

The Best I've Ever Come Across!
I first found this cook book in a used book store: Since then I have seen it in every Greek food store I've been in. I haven't cooked everything in it, but everything I have cooked has been delicious! The Fassolada recipe alone is worth the price. Every Greek cook I know recommends it! I know of no other cook book that stands so completely alone in its field.

Excellent book
My mom and I have both used the recipes in this book for many years, and the dishes I have produced always garner many compliments! I made moussaka and dolmades for my Greek employers, which met with high praise. Highly recommend.

They've done it again!
It's fun to see writers grow in their craft. Everson and Chadwick have done just that and the reader benefits.

Summon the Shadows is a fast paced read picking up where their popular book, Shadow of Dreams, leaves off. I liked the development of Katie's character and how, with God's help, she was able to take over the posh hotel after her husband's disappearance. Skillfully-written fiction can teach many life lessons, and through Katie, we learn that we can grow through our grief and shattered lives.

Some readers prefer the more obvious Christian fiction, but I loved the carefully woven message of God's love, strength, and hope intertwined with real-life characters and situations. This is a book I feel comfortable suggesting to non Christians because I know they won't be turned off by an excessive amount of "God talk," yet they will be able to find Him in the carefully chosen words.

I loved the way they wove the tragic events of September 11 into the story. The authors used the events as a way of showing character growth and helping us understand that we all need to do something in the face of unspeakable evil.

The plot is easy to follow but leaves enough clues so that when the surprising punch line is delivered we're not disappointed.

Summon the Shadows is an entertaining read that shouts, "We're a new breed of Christian fiction." Life is full of twists and turns and Everson and Chadwick do an excellent job of showing the One who will get us through what can be a terrifying maze.

Summon the Shadows is an excellent read with outstanding dialogue, believable characters, and an interesting plot. I'm looking forward to the next installment and finding resolution to the questions so expertly posed in the epilogue.

Everson & Chadwick Hit the Big Time with Their Shadow Series
Engaging! Compelling! Riviting! Three words that describe the progression I felt while reading Shadow of Dreams and its sequel, Summon the Shadows. Eva Marie Everson and G.W.Francis Chadwick have written two books that engage all five senses. I can see the descriptions on the page. I can hear the intensity of emotion in the dialogue. I can feel the suspense as I walk with the characters down the path of twists and turns to the plot. The books are a compelling read. I want to know whether and how Katie and her mom are going to reunite after so many
years, in Shadow of Dreams. How is Katie going to pass on her gift of redemption to three waifs of the seamy underworld in
Summon the Shadows. How will Katie balance the many feelings and needs of navigating the corporate world with her hope against hope that her husband, Ben, survived the car bomb and waits somewhere to reunite with her? I was rivited to the plot development both because the storyline was so believable and real, and also because the authors so deftly wove in character responses to our national, 9-11 tragedy. The themes of personal redemption, sacrifice, and blessing through adversity are expertly conveyed. While each book is a stand-alone suspense thriller, together they are two-thirds of a trilogy that will endear Katie Webster and her cohorts to both the Christian and secular reader for many years to come. Bring on Book 3!

EXCITEMENT, INTRIGUE, SUSPENSE, ADVENTURE
SUMMON THE SHADOWS is a 'must read' and an exciting follow-up to SHADOW OF DREAMS. Everson and Chadwick have woven through this expertly written novel a believeable story of mystery and faith. I was unable to put it down and when completing it, counting the days for book number 3 to be released. Katies friendships, care and compassion for her friends while she struggles with her own heartbreaking circumstances shows how faith can keep one moving forward and is heartwarming. The characters are very real and I found myself involved with the daily comings and goings of each of them as the plot thickened. A great story which keeps one wondering what the outcome will be.

Medicine as Art
This book allows the layperson to understand and appreciate the powerful and the subtle, not to mention the sublime. It has introduced me to a very old medicine as art.

Before reading Eva-Marie Lind's "Aromatiques" I was a bit of a naysayer about aromatherapy..."smells nice" kinda person. I received the book as a gift and devoured it, everyone in my household has enjoyed it. We have tried some of the suggestions and now are aware of how everyday as well as exotic aromas affect our moods, health and well being.

inspiring and beautifully written
this book was a wonderful place to begin my relationship with aromatherapy. it is elegantly written and made me aware of so many things we can do to take care of our body, our minds, and our hearts!

Great to begin
I loved this book. As a person who is interested in Aromatherapy, the authors advise gave me detailed information about the benefits of this time-honored therapy.

UNFORGETTABLE! IRRESISTABLE! A visual feast!
Eva Peron was at a time, one of the most photographed woman in the world (to date, she remains the only Latin American First Lady to appear on the cover of TIME magazine). Looking at this book, it's not hard to see why. A strikingly attractive and elegant woman- she possessed a rare, fragile beauty that is clearly evident in these glossy black and white photographs. Those looking for an in depth biography of this influential woman may be disapointed in the lack of information (the book does include a brief biography and each photograph contain notes and factual information pertaining to that particular photo) but considering the numerous in depth biographies out there, a book like this is a refreshing change. Respectful, accurate and a visual delight, this book is sure to please her legion of admirers- old and new. Highly recommended.

Stunning. A Glossy tribute to the late, great Eva Peron!
Extraordinary and hauntingly beautiful! These words which can easily describe Eva Peron herself can also be used to describe this book. The full page photographs are stunning and show every aspect of Eva Peron's life. Her physical transformation and her larger than life story are cleary displayed within it's pages. The book offers a brief biography but who wants to read when you can look at excellent, never before seen photographs of the former Argentine First Lady in all the slendour of her beauty. It is a shame that books like this are hard to come by and I was unable to find a copy here in Canada. The handsome black and white photographs more than make up for the high cost of the book. Fascinating and visually stimulating!

A compelling visual history of a fascinating woman
"Evita: An Intimate Portrait of Eva Peron," edited by Tomas de Elia and Juan Pablo Quieroz, brings together a wealth of black-and-white photographs of Eva Peron, the legendary first lady of Argentina. The editors note in their preface that with the 1955 overthrow of Eva's husband, President Juan Peron, much visual material related to this controversial woman was destroyed. Thus, this book has significant historical and sociological value.

We see the full span of the woman's extraordinary life: Eva as a child, aspiring actress, wife, and triumphant first lady. There are "glamour shot" portraits, candid photos, magazine covers, stills from film productions, and more. We see Eva and her husband, as well as her interaction with adoring crowds.

Eva is a consistently fascinating subject: whether fiery, starry-eyed, thoughtful, amused, determined, or serene, you can see why she continues to captivate so many imaginations.

The text portions of the book are very positive towards Eva. If you have been intrigued by the Broadway musical and motion picture about her life, or by other media about her, I definitely recommend this book.

Dial-a-Ghost
Dial-a-Ghost was a great book. I was expecting a book exactly like it because Eva Ibbotson always writes fantastic books. It started out with a family living in their house during the war. A bomb hit their house and they became ghosts. They went to a ghost house where normal people could rent ghosts for their house, to scare or to just live there. The nice ghosts got mixed up with the awful ghosts and disaster began. The awful ghosts went to a nuns church adn the nice ones went to a nasty old mans house who just wanted the ghosts to kill people. I all turned out OK in the end, but you will have to see what happens for yourself.
Dial-a-Ghost was just everything I thought it would be. Fun, funny, entertaining, and exciting. This book had me reading in the car for hours in a row until I finished it. I just could not put it down. If you have read the Secret of PLatform 13 then I just know you will love this book. Both of the books are similar in the way that they have fun and crazy characters adn are just fun reads. Eva Ibbotson always succeedsin writing the books that really capture my attention and I hope that you will feel the same way after reading just a couple of her books.

Great book for young readers
I am always looking for books for my nephews to read, and this one is one of the best I've found. It will appeal to all of the kids going through Harry Potter withdrawal. Oliver Smith is an orphan living happily in a Home. He suddenly finds out that he has inherited a great estate. Unfortunately, he has two evil cousins who also want the estate. They hire two vile ghosts who like to kill children to haunt the house. Unfortunately, there is a mixup at the agency, and the ghostly Wilkinson family take their place, for the time being anyway.

This is a really fun read. There are some illustrations, but the author's descriptions are so vivid they are practically unecessary. My nephew loved this book.

Book Review for Dail-A-Ghost
Dial-A-Ghost is definetly one of the best books I have ever read. I first chose it because I have read and enjoyed many books that the author, Eva Ibbotson, has written previously. Dial-A-Ghost is about a little orphan child name Oliver Smith who has spent ten years in an orphanage after his parents died. Unexpectedly, he inherits Helton Hall. There, the evil Snodde-Brittles, Cousin Fulton and Frieda, are supposed to take care of him. However, the Snodde-Brittles are next in line to inherit Helton Hall if anything happens to Oliver. With this in mind, they call the agency, Dial-A-Ghost, and order two evil ghosts who are supposed to scare Oliver to death. While this is happening, a group of nuns order a family of nice ghosts to live in a extra house that they have. Their files get mixed up and the nuns are left with the terrible hate filled ghosts, and the Snodde-Brittles are given the wonderfully nice family. The ghosts were killed in World War One and treat Oliver as if they were their real son and brother. Soon, the Snodde-Brittles find out about the mistake in ghosts and demand that the mistake is fixed. However, Oliver is able to break the hard shell of the dead, hateful couple and comes to the core of their rage against kids. Together, they scare off the Snodde-Brittles.

Not For Kids
I bought this book, mistakenly thinking that it was another of Eva Ibbottson's children's books. While it IS a very nice romance, one that even younger (11-15) girls might enjoy, it is not a children's book.

The book itself is very good, as usual. Eva Ibbottson is so clever with plot twists and turns that, even in formula drama such as this, she will throw in a few surprises! And her writing is always so clear and direct.

Another Winner by Ibbotson
Amazon's branch in the UK carries this in paperback and her others as well. Readers also use interlibrary loans to find her novels. I virtually pulled an "all nighter" to finish this novel and that rather says it all. A young Russian countess is forced to work as an English earl's housemaid because of having fled revolutionary torn Russia. The earl is engaged to a beautiful heiress who is another one of Ibbotson's high comic characters. She believes in eugenics, getting rid of unfit people. The people in the earl's village and household use that vice to sink her boat with the earl. This is a fitting failing for the time period because it is right before Hitler and WWII. Ibbotson always seems to have the other woman as the villainess for the hero's affections. However, she presents them as such high figures of comedy that they are not at all clichés. I also love Ibbotson's use of time periods that few others seem inclined to use. This is right after WWI and the effect of that war on the survivors is part of the story. Ibbotson was a native of Vienna who settled in England herself so she brings all of her eastern European insight into her novels. This resembles a delightful fairy tale but there is no paranormal or fantasy aspect to it.

I wish all these books were in print.
This is such a beautiful book. It and 'The Morning Gift' are Eva's best books. Unfortunately I haven't found it in English anywhere and have only read it in German, but I think the beauty of the story crosses the language barrier. I know the 'evil' fiancee is a cliche, but we are willing her, wishing for her to be evil. This is a fairytale given a more believable setting.

Review for Peter Pan
You will laugh, cry and be confused when you read this book. This book can teach you that what you think is good is not always good.

There is a boy named Peter Pan. He sprinkles fairy dust in Wendy and her two brothers. Then he shows them how to fly. He takes them to Neverland and shows them to the Lost Boys who live there. Wendy becomes their mother. She makes up rules, like any other mother would do. The boys have to follow these rules. Everything was fine until Captain Hook came with his crew to where the boys and Wendy were. While Wendy and the boys were at the lagoon, where they go every day after dinner, they see a girl named Tiger Lily, princess of her tribe. She was captured by Smee, one of Captain Hook's men. Then Peter saved her. A few days later Wendy and the boys were on their way to Wendy's house when they too were all captured by Captain Hook. Then Peter saves them. Then the lost boys, Wendy and her brothers go home. All except for Peter.

It is mostly about what the people in the book think is right with childhood. The kids in the book think that if you grow up it is bad, but in our case it is actually good.

Peter Pan is a violent book not really made for children under the age of 10 but people 10 and up can read it. It is violent because of the language that is spoken and the idea that killing could be fun. Also, the vocabulary is very difficult for children under 10 to understand. Even if you're older it is difficult to understand.

Overall, it is a good book but watch out for the violent ideas if you are reading it to little children.

A classic
This is an utterly charming work. It has been retold myriad times, but nobody else has done it as well as the original teller, J. M. Barrie.

It's difficult to know what to say about a book like this... everybody knows the story. But I guess that unless you've read this book (not just seen a movie or read a retelling), you don't really know the character Peter Pan, and without knowing the character, you don't really know the story. So read it.

By the way, if you enjoy this, you probably would also like "Sentimental Tommy" and its sequel "Tommy and Grizel", both by Barrie. There are differences (for one thing they're not fantasy), but there are also compelling similarities. Anybody who found Peter Pan a deep and slightly bittersweet book would be sure to enjoy them.

-Stephen

Become a child...again
When talking of literature, people tend to look solely at books they read today but forget what they used to read, namely the ones we read as children. It is a common misunderstanding that children's literature is to be read by children and children only, but when we come to think of it, which one of us are not children, at least in our hearts?

One of the best books any child, young or old, can read is Barrie's Peter Pan. Although written in the past century, it has something for any generation at any time. Its humorous views at the world from a child's mind left me rolling over the floor, laughing; the exciting storyline kept me busy with reading until the end; and the serious undertone made me think of whether the world wouldn't be a better place if we realised that deep down, however deep, we are in fact all children. So if YOU are a child, which you most certainly are, get yourself a copy and enjoy your ongoing childhood.
