inexperienced not wanting more
Donovan joins N Troop, not really wanting to become an experienced calvaryman but would rather serve out his enlistment on the safer side of any combat. however, Trooper Donovan will see plenty of action throughout this book. This is a pretty good read, smooth but stimulating as are all of the RODERUS books.

One Recruit's Army
"Trooper Donovan" illustrates the timelessness of some themes. Though thoroughly grounded historically in the Indian fighting army of the immediate post-Civil War era, the experiences of a young army recruit thrust into a military unit are ones with which many of us Twentieth Century warriors can identify. Roderus skillfully blends the minor, almost insignificant, details of daily life with the 7th Cavalry's mission to give a realistic portrayal of one man's experiences.

TROOPER DONOVAN
Frank Roderus brings us another exceptional western in TROOPER DONOVAN. From the very first day John Donovan arrives at Camp Horan to his final decision at the end, you find yourself pulling for TROOPER DONOVAN. It is evident from the start that this is a very well researched book. Unlike other western fiction about the cavalary that tend to glorify being a horse soldier, TROOPER DONOVAN gives us an excellent window into what life must have really been like being a cavalry trooper in the old west. VERY WELL DONE FRANK!

Hayseed By Frank Roderus
I think Hayseed is one of the most best books I had ever read. I have a copy for myself. I like it so much I read it over and over. If you like adventure and romance in a novel, you should take a look at this book"Hayseed"

This is another great Roderus novel with unforgetable charac
Frank Roderus has done it again! This time, his hero is Arnie, a big farm boy who falls in love with a wild young lady who suddenly disappears. I couldn't put the novel down as poor Arnie goes out into the "real world" of his time to find and claim his true love. Arnie takes his lumps aplenty and we come to love him for it. I was cheering for the guy at the end even knowing his "true, pure love" probably wasn't going to work out like he planned. This is first-class story telling and another Spur caliber work by one of our best western novelists. Read it!

I only wish I could give 6 stars
This is it. This book is by far the most powerful thing I have ever read. I actually cried as I read the ending. This is the first book by Mr. Roderus that I have read but it will certainly not be the last. I have only 3 words of advise to you if you have not yet read this one. "BUY IT NOW !" This one will change your life.

A great achievement
In my opinion few writers can handle a novel where very few characters are onstage. Mr Roderus has given us a great novel. I read Potter's Fields at one sitting and I am sure that you will too. I was right there with Joe Potter in that line shack. I looked around and saw how miserable and ornery and cold it was and how a man carries more than just his emotions around with him. And how the tenderness of a woman is something that man ignores to his detriment. In short, this book is great -- buy it.

ANOTHER RODERUS MUST READ STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once more Frank Roderus writes a story filled with characters you care about. Boyd Little is sent by his uncle to buy horses for the upcoming season. In his saddle was $3000 for the purchase of the horses. But along the way he hears a voice singing and upon his investigation discovers a short Irishman whose horse lies dead leaving him stranded. Thus begins the adventure for Boyd as in the morning a posse finds Boyd and the dead horse. Seems the posse has been tracking the hose and rider from Lewisville Flats and since Boyd's new "friend" Liam O'Day has stolen Boyd's horse and left him high and dry, the posse thinks Boyd is the man they are after. Liam does after time break Boyd out of jail and off they go again only to have Liam once again take both horses in the morning leaving Boyd stranded again. LEWISVILLE FLATS gets even better and the end will surprise you. DON'T MISS LEWISVILLE FLATS!!!!!!!

Old Marsden is a great novel!
Cap Marsden is an old mountain man, who likes to tell his stories to his grandchildren. The oldest girl is kidnapped and Cap saddles up to track down the kidnappers. This novel is full of surprises and is never slow or dull. Marsden's love for his granddaughter is touching and sad. This book will pull at your heart strings. Cap Marsden is one of my favorite all time characters in western fiction. Old Marsden shows how far family will go to help their own. A great novel!

Moving, vehement and passionate
This is a masterpiece of understatement. A man who has suffered dreadfully, a man who became a killer but not through choice, but who since recoiled in horror at the nature of human violence is forced to defend himself. Read this book.
