An Excellent Thematic Collection For Teaching
This is an excellent collection of stories dealing with the complexities of identity and identification. Although the book is marketed as young adult, every story in it is worthy of serious academic study. I have taught it every year for the past six years and am always amazed at how the collection itself is better than the sum of its parts. Each story raises and plays off issues that the others deal with. If you want to teach a thematic unit on the issue of friendship, enmity, or identity this is the only book you need. Alternatively, you could use this as a great introduction to a novel that deals with the same issues.

Note to amazon editers: post the table of contents for this book; it's its finest selling point.

A fun read!
This book was very interesting to read. It consists of stories written by different authors that are all about South Africa and its justice system. My personal favorite story in this book was called, "the toilet." Sometimes the stories dragged on and were annoying, but overall its a fun read.

This book is a Must read!
In this book the story of each person is vividly told. This book is a true tear jerker, but in a very good way. I beleive that it should be read in every classroom in the world.

The Book to Pay Attention to
Leaving home was a good book with alot of different stories. To me I think that this book was interesting to read and it makes me want to read more books similar to it. The stories that are in the book all are about leaving home and going on trips and just not being at home. The story that I like the best was Bad Influence because i had to do a presentation on that story. Most of the stories in the book were pretty good. I would reccomened this book to some of my classmates and friends that are in school as well. According to the stories in the book I think that it would be good to leave home and go on a vacation like in the stories.

stories for some people
The Book _Leaving Home_ is a book of short stories that some people can and do relate to. Personally I like stories that i can relate to with my personal life. The sum of the short stories that I have read have been mostly set when I wasn't even born yet. On the other hand the stories are fun to read about other people's experiences and becuase they seem to be true life stories it is interesting to see anothers person perspective on a different situation. In a poem writen in the book the poeple wanted to get out of the town they lived in, i saw that as breaking free from life and i thought that was a good choice to put in the book titled Leaving Home.

My thought's.
During our time we tend to read many book that honestly don't interest many people. I myself have read many books and "Leaving Home" a book with many short stories sure will be one of my favorites for now on. It is a book with many incredible stories about the authors personal experiences. After reading many of the short stories if Leaving Home I can honestly say their lives seem very familiar when I talk to friends about this book, In retrospect I myself found a story that sounded very familiar to my childhood. I truly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read as much I do.

The holocost project
My name is Eric leonard and am in the eighth grade and chose this book for a holocost report. this book is full of holocost poems and stories. I found many of the holocost stories touching. I would recomend this book to young adults that need to be informed about this terible time in history. I enjoyed this this book and would read it again.

Teaching today's children about the Holocaust
I purchased this book in order to prepare my 7 year old son for a visit to the Holocaust Museum in D.C.

In the book you will find poignant poems and stories written by survivors of the Holocaust written in a way that can be beneficial to both children and adults.

I recommend the book, but I would not agree with the age bracket of 4-7. I think some of the material can be presented to a child of 6 or 7 by a parent who can help explain it, but in my opinion, this book would be better suited for a child of at least 11 or 12 years old.

Informative and touching
I recently read this book for my Honors Junior class. I find that it, like Night by Elie Wiesel, is an easy read. Yet I would not recommend either of the two for anything younger than mature pre-teens. It's not terribly graphic, but it can be understood at a much deeper level by older teens. All in all it was a great book which helped me to better understand what took place during the Holocaust and how it affective people who lived during it.
