Excellent planning tool for government
As a CPA and candidate for controller of Montgomery County, PA, it is refreshing to see the long-term planning, comparison, functional issue review, and the "watchdog" functions of a controller so well laid out. Montgomery County will be well served to use this planning approach.

Exemplary Urban Studies Text and Public Policy Guide
Please tell me it's not this easy to run a city. If all the Giulianis, Rendells, and Daleys of the world would just implement this new direction for urban america, our cities would not be afflicted with the ills they currently suffer. Every big city resident should demand that local government run as recommended in this book. Students, policy professionals, elected officials, and urbanites everywhere should make this book a part of their libraries.

An insightful vision for the future of cities.
I am a passionate city fan and wish every mayor in the country would read this book and implement the policies the authors advocate. There are no quick fixes to the problems shared by large American cities (crime, poverty, decay). As successful cities prove over and over, local government must concentrate on the basics -- improving schools, reducing crime, lowering taxes -- to make the city a place where people want to be instead of a place people want to avoid. If Philadelphia would adopt the recommendations of this book, the city would truly be a great one.

Embracing Uncertainty: The Essence of Leadership
Published in Unknown Binding by M E Sharpe Inc (E) (2001)
Authors: Phillip G. Clampitt and Robert J. Dekoch
Amazon base price: $64.95
Average review score:

A key working and thinking tool!
As an entreprenuer and consultant I found this book fascinating. It is so up-to-date with a theme we all are familiar with and most of us try to win over: uncertainty. Two factors make of this book a practical working tool: its writing flows, examples are fitting; it's a kind of flow that gets you thinking and relate the topics to issues you are working on. Good job Dr.Clampitt! A few years back I found attending your courses mind opening, this book takes the concepts to the next level: practice.

Real World, Real Solutions
With bookshelves full of books written by instant management
McGurus selling their own flavors of the month,"Embracing Uncertainty" is a breath of fresh air. This book actually makes sense. It deals with the real world not theoretical models. If you enjoy reading academic mumbo-jumbo, this book is not for you.The old axiom:"the only sure things in life are taxes and death" should be changed. It should read:"the only sure things in life are taxes, death and uncertainty." You can cheat on your taxes, cheat death for a while, but you cannot avoid uncertainty. Embrace it!

A "Must-Have" in Today's Corporate Environment
The dynamic combination of real-world business examples along with research produces a powerful book. Clampitt and DeKoch's study of over 1,000 employees revealing that those who work for organizations that embrace uncertainty have more job satisfaction and are more committed to their organization is a powerful testament to the importance of this subject.
But, they go beyond just acknowledging uncertainty; they offer concrete ways to enhance leadership skills.

Of particular mention is the portion of the book dedicated to communicating about uncertainty. The authors convinced me that at times it may be just as important to talk about what you do NOT know as it is to discuss what you DO know.

A tribute to heroes!
I picked up this book simply because I was interested in pricing my comicbook collection. Imagine my surprise when I read the wonderful editorial on heroes (both real-world, and the four-color kind) as well as the moving tribute to those heroes of the 9/11 tragedy. I highly recomend this book to everyone!

New and Improved!
If you are looking for a great price guide to price out your comicbook collection, then this is the book for you! Fair, realistic pricing, and fine editorial content as well

An excellent upgrade to an excellent price guide
As always, the Team of Malloy, Wells, and Sodaro bring sanity and clarity to the multi-tiered world of comicbook prices. This guide has consistently ranked as one of the best price guides on the market. Malloy truly has a handle on what stuff is truly worth. This edition is especially relevant in the post 9/11 world, as it contains a pair of stirring tributes to "Heroes" (both the four-color and the real-world kind). I heartily recommend this book

the best
I may buy this because I collect comics and I need to know how much they are worth

A Great way to Price Your Old Comics
Written and assembled by the team of writers and editors who used to publish the magazine Comic Values Monthy (as well as Triton, and Toy Values Monthly). This guide offers sections on each of the major comicbook companies, as well as Golden Age Comics, smaller Color and B&W publishers. Very well put together, they have been issuing this guide since 1994.

Comics Values 2000 is a great help
I am new at selling comic books a task you can say was "left to me". I have a large inventory of underground comics and it was a great pleasure to find a section on the subject in this book. I refer to it every day.

Great Reading, Great Application
This book has been such a blessing to me as a wife. It presents numerous ways to strengthen your marriage without making you feel like you have to follow a certain formula, and, most importantly, without making you feel overwhelmed. It explains the importance of treating your spouse as you would treat a friend, how to handle conflicts, and how to really listen to your spouse. The ideas in the book can be put into effect immediately, with just the little things of everyday life.
The best aspect of this book is that it's not written in a condescending, clinical, tone. The authors share their own mistakes and mishaps through marriage, as well as stories that others have gone through. You can laugh with these stories, take their advice, and even be grateful for the person your spouse is. All said, it's a wonderfully uplifting and encouraging book.

Rock-Solid Marriage Review
This book contains superb practical advice. It is the Time Life Handyman book on marriage, and emphasizes fundamental common-sense ways to be a good spouse and make your partner feel loved and valued every day. It is a refreshing antidote to the childish culture of self-indulgence that populates our media, schools, and pop-psychology literature.

Rock-Solid Advice
Being married is hard and the authors know it. This is practical advice on how to put your marriage on the track to success. It is written from a Christian perspective, but is applicable for married people of any faith. Whether you are thinking of getting married or have been married for years, this book offers scenarios and thoughful discussion questions at the end of each chapter that is like having your own marriage counselor! It can strengthen weak marriages and make good marriages great. Get this book!

Current and concise
After using many different references for the first half of my internship, this is the book I most often reach for now. The information is as user friendly as the 5 Minute Consult (an improvement here), and more up to date. There are many, many helpful tables and figures, and the addition of a formulary in the back is welcome. While no book can provide all the answers, I find 90% of them in here. My only complaint is the coverage of emergency care could be tweaked. In critical care situations, when I need information regarding a particular emergency in a hurry, this is not the book I turn to first.

a brilliant practical manual, in depth yet reader friendly
A very handy tome of immense value in the stress situation for quick information as well as for in depth study to bone up on latest techniques and those possibly a bit rusty. I can strongly recommend this, it is excellent value. I would want a more updated model though and hope for a new edition soon--I hope the authors are reading this?

An excellent book for Veterianry students. Love it !!!
A book which explores the small animal Veterinary field, uses simple and clear explainations to many different issues in that field. As a student for Veterinary Medicine in the clinical stage, I open the book very often. the book is very readable and friendly for students which their first language is other than English (unlike many others we all know).

You must have it !!!

A Price Guide for the Rest of Us!
Now this is what I call a Price Guide. One that takes a realist look at what comicbooks are truly sellling for in today's marketplace.
I also recommend Malloy's American Games: Comprehensive Collector's Guide, and Robert J. Sodaro's Kiddie Meal Collectibles (on which Malloy is a contributor).

The Best Comicbook Price List on the Market
If you are looking for realistic, buying and/selling prices on your comicbook collection (or on comics you are wishing to purchase), then this is the price guide for you. Malloy has a solid handle on the pricing structure of the industry, and his prices are very much in line with what is going on in the marketplace. Rather than pricing comics as what he wishes they were priced, Malloy goes the extra mile to learn what they are being priced at across the country. Also, you might want to check out his board game prices in American Games: Comprehensive Collector's Guide, or his fast food toy prices in Kiddie Meal Collectibles.

See new book with updated material
As the original editor of this book, I am very gratified by the review already posted. I am writing now (February 2000) simply to differentiate this book from Guide to Cost Management, an all new, much less expensive, and--I believe--far better book published in January 2000. Handbook of Cost Management was originally published in the mid-1990s; since 1997 it has been edited by someone else. Although there have been many expensive loose-leaf updates to the original book, I believe that much of the book is still outdated. (The new book--Guide to Cost Management--is also listed on Amazon.com under my name; it was published in January 2000 by John Wiley & Sons with all new material.)

The best cost management book I've seen!
The most useful and comprehensive book I've found regarding cost management. Provides in-depth information on activity-based costing, abc software, investment justification, target costing, functional analysis, and performance measurement.

New Orleans Architecture Vol VIII : The University Section

Brought back great memories.
Growing up in this section of New Orleans, I was pleasantly surprised to see several homes of my childhood friends. No other city in the U.S. has such distinct and diverse neighborhood architecture. Another great volume in a GREAT series.

The best of the series
This volume in the N.O. Architecture series by the Friends of the Cabildo is, in my opinion, the best of the entire series. Perhaps it is because this is the section of the city in which I spend most of my time, a place to which I've become rather attached. Anyone who enjoys architecture will probably like this book, not just New Orleanians.

Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (1998)
Authors: Raymond J. Fonseca, Robert V. Walker, and Barbara G. Walker
Amazon base price: $345.00
Average review score:

THE trauma set to own
Don't bother with the 7-volume set by the same author. It covers too many subjects in not enough detail. THIS is THE trauma set to own for the practicing OMF surgeon and residents. There is hardly a question not answered within these large texts. Surgical anatomy is reviewed, the pictures are excellent, it is well written, and it is current. It is a book that you should acquire as one of your first titles while an OMF resident. Useful for ENT and Plastics, as well, but really covers the discipline of OMFS trauma nicely.

1991 Ed. Recommended by the Medical Library Association.
The Previous editon (1991) was recommended in "A Basic List of Recommended Books and Journals for Support of Clinical Dentistry in a Nondental Library" in Bulletin Of the Medical Library Association, July 1997.
