The Acupressure Warmup: For Fitness, Athletic Preparation,
The truly simple and amazing precedures explained in the book produce incredible results not only to relieve pain but to keep you from injury. I am in my 50's and play tennis four times a week. Prior to using the Acupressure warmup routine, I was prone to injury. I have been warming up with this method for five years now and have been pain and injury free, and it only takes 10 minutes! I have recommended this book to dozens of friends who have had similar success. My husband who travels a good deal, uses tennis balls on his back pressure points while driving or flying to relieve back pain. I highly recommend this book to young and old.

Awesome for back pain
I've had chronic back pain all my life and have tried many different approaches to find relief. \ I have found that the Acupressure Warmup techniques to be very effective in relieving my pain instantly. Because my pain is chronic I find myself stiff and sore after work and in the morning when I wake up. After applying the techniques I can go throughout the day with much pain and muscle spasms.

Excellent resource for helping to self-manage your pain!
This book is a useful resource not only for helping me to manage my own aches and pains, but I also recommend (and frequently lend) this book to my patients. As a physical therapist, I am always looking for ways to teach people to take control of their own pain and this book acts as a great adjunct to my own treatments. I currently work with chronic pain patients and several of them have borrowed my book and subsequently ordered their own copy as these techniques have given them excellent relief.

Way more interesting than the course
This book helped me pass my exam! The course is so boring and very dull, but this book uses everyday situations to explain the concepts. Marc Lieberman is a professor at my school and I wish I had him as a professor because all of the students who did have him said that his class is awesome. So if his class is awesome, his book has got to be awesome...right?

This book uses alot graphics and colors, which makes it more fun to read. This the exactly how I would want to be taught economics. There is also a little humor in the book too, which makes it even more fun. So for those students who are taking economics or are going economics, this book helps ALOT. It covers the basics very well.

Make sure you buy the most updated edition though. This book was just updated last year, so beware of those 1st edition books because they're old.

Superb textbook
Easy and fun to use. Excellent blend of academia and real-life examples. Charts, graphs, and illustrations were colorful and easy to understand. Also, authors Hall and Liberman provide readers access to their macroecon website for additional study. I used this text at the postgraduate level - great for undergrads, too.

Behind the glitter
Friedman's dramatic, richly detailed book is essential reading for those wanting to understand the Nobel physics and chemistry decisions in their first fifty years.

Behind the scenes good stuff
This is the 100th anniversary of the Nobel prizes, and it's a wonder it took this long for someone to take a good look at what went on behind the scenes in Stockholm for all these years. Friedman's book dishes dirt but does it with white gloves and a magnifying glass. The footnotes are just as much fun as the book itself. The book answers some of the questions about the wierdness associated with the Nobels. For one: What did they have against Einstein? The conspiratorial answer is here in the chapter - "Einstein Must Never Get a Nobel Prize." For another: Who got the money when they didn't award a prize?

This book is eminently readable from several professional angles. It has delicious Nobel trivia hidden on every page. It explains science so that I can understand most of it, even quantum theory. I wish there were photographs of the winners and the major players, and I wish the list of winners would have included descriptions of what they won for, but those are only slight criticisms.

The story of the intrigue and pettiness behind the Nobels is presented chronologically. Most important to me was that Friedman not only explains what happened - and he deserves extra credit for cheerfully explaining the tedious machinations behind Swedish scholarly politics - but presents the motivation, much of it a surprising pro-German bent, behind the events.

I am acquainted with Prof. Friedman, and only a fellow with a deep sense of professionalism and and an equally sharp sense of humor and irony could have pulled this off.

Hope for the psychotic child
This book is a must for psychoanalytical psychotherapists. Rosine LeFort clearly displays her unconditional love and genuine concern for these two very disturbed children. LeFort's work is truly brilliant and beyond her time. She is comfortable within herself and Nadia (psychotic patient) is aware of this, which is one of the reasons why she eventually allowed the Other to enter into her world. LeFort's research went beyond and endured the frustration and futility of Autism and made the reader more aware of how disturbing the Autistic position really is.

Virtuosity as essential to, and in service of, musicianship
Marc-Andre Hamelin is universally acknowledged to be 'primus inter pares' among pianists living today, and Robert Rimm has written a first-rate book which explains why this is so, placing Hamelin into the context and rich legacy of the composer-pianists.

The core of Rimm's evaluation consists of four chapters which compare, contrast and illuminate the lives, careers and aethetics of The Eight: Alkan and Sorabji; Busoni and Godowsky; Feinberg and Scriabin; Medtner and Rachmaninov. The major "find" here is Samuel Feinberg, about whom much less is known by many of us than any of the other Eight. Rimm leaves us wishing to hear much more of this composer's music and of his recorded performances.

In these chapters, Rimm manages to deconstruct several myths and misunderstandings about each of these provocative musicians, while calibrating, aligning and amplifying the essence of each. His observation of the correspondences, contrasts, parallels and congruent aesthetics of each of the eight is insightful, and leads to his core thesis: That pianistic virtuosity, as shared and practiced by them (and upon which their public fame largely exists, to the dismay of each), exists to serve the music, through their consumate musicianship, and is not an end to itself. Indeed, their virtuosity must be seen as the necessary precursor to their art; none was satisfied to stop at the "merely virtuosic", but instead recognized that virtuosity was the mandatory platform for the creation and recreation of great music.

These four core chapters lead to a fifth: "From Alkan to Hamelin", which examines Marc's career to date and his place in this distinguished lineage of composers and performers. [NB: I feel comfortable using Mr. Hamelin's first name, with respect, in writing about him, for I was fortunate last year to have met and briefly talked with him after a pair of recitals he gave at the Portland (OR) State University Piano Recital Series. These recitals included the music of Bach, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and, yes, Alkan's Concerto!... plus encores from his then-just released "Kaleidoscope" CD (Hyperion CDA67275), a direct successor to "The Composer-Pianists" CD (CDA67050) which is in turn the companion recording to this very book. Marc is a most cordial and approachable individual, totally without pretense, and unfazed by those who insist on referring to him as "a super-virtuoso". Our conversations were brief, following his generous performances and after he tolerated lines of autograph-seeking well-wishers -- I'm sure he'd not recognize me in a crowd, yet I left feeling like I'd met a new friend.]

Rimm's chapter on Hamelin (who is indeed his friend and collaborator in this book) examines Marc's own views of The Eight (and others), his championship of their art and music, and his own recognition of virtuosity as an element of musicianship itself. This chapter is perhaps the gem of the book: it is constructively analytical, not hyperventilating with hero-worship (difficult to do when faced with Marc's executant talents), and comfortably conversational. Marc offers his own insights, including a clear-eyed personal view of his own performance skills and technique, on concertizing and composing, and the push-pull demands of a varied and creative career.

The chapters on the pitfalls of criticism, the liabilities of virtuosity and the art of transcription are also strong, interweaving a fine counterpoint of notions and ideas again at the foundations of The Eight's (plus one's) aesthetics and lives. The weakest chapter is "The Erotic Muse" -- I suppose that, especially in light of Scriabin's world view of mysticism and sexuality, this is somewhat of an obligatory chapter. I'm no prude (nor is there anything the least bit titillating herein), but I found that this chapter could be ripped without loss from the book. Fortunately, after examining certain views of how (some) music(s) and sex are (somehow) linked or of "the same" human impulse, Rimm ultimately comes to the obvious conclusion that sex and music are really two different things altogether. I'll need to re-read this chapter in a few months to see what, if anything, I missed.

Along the way, we encounter other musicians, composers and pianists of note, including Liszt (of course), Prokofiev, Ives, Horowitz, Kapustin, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Earl Wild, Alistair Hinton, Radu Lupu, Zoltan Kocsis and Stephen Hough, who provides an enticing foreword plus complementary remarks in various chapters. Hough is, of course, a peer, compatriot and colleague of Hamelin's -- boy, a duo-recital &/or recording by these two would be almost too much of a good thing! Hyperion, are you paying attention?

Bonus points for the appendices: Complete Solo Piano Works for each of The Eight and for Hamelin (an emerging composer of note), plus a Discography for each who has left a recorded legacy (Alkan's the exception; he died just before Edison put cactus-needle to wax) ...and of course, Hamelin's own discography is fortunately a catalog-in-progress.

This is mandatory reading for all pianists and other musicians, professional and serious amatuers (like me!), and anyone else who wants to understand the fascinating hold that virtuoso musicians have over us all. Bravo, and thank you, Mr. Rimm!

A medical educator and physician reviews this book
There are many books on the market that try to give both the starting physician and the experienced physician guidance on "current therapy", but most of them, I think, spend way too much time on diagnosis and not nearly enough time on the details of treatment - which drugs to use first, second, third, and in what dosages, and the rationale for choosing certain drugs. This book, Drug Therapy: Decision Making Guide, however, is written on the principle that most diagnoses a physician makes are reasonably routine, so it saves your time by getting right to the point - how to treat, with plenty of detail. I especially appreciate the fact that the authors back up their preferences with CITATIONS from the current literature. This is a great book for medical students, interns and residents to learn from, giving them guidance solidly based in the literature for effectively using medicines. This edition, written in 1996, is starting to get a little old in some areas and it really is time for the authors to update it, but, even so, it's still a good guide and is still completely up-to-date in most of the areas that matter.

Mountains and a Burro.....
An Ear For Danger is a genuinely clever story from the Crimbusters series. It is not the best of the series but has a swift and intriguing plot, set in the well described Sierra Mountains - which, the auther takes time to note, literally means the Mountain Moutains. The plot centres on a burro (mule) named Blondie, and her mystifying connection with Jupiter Jones...

Solid Reference for Things IP
Although the large text font (and relatively large price) suggests ulterior motives by the publisher, IP Addressing is a decent reference for subnetting and network addressing.

The language is kept fairly high-level, and most of the explanations are clearly written--if a little terse--with a fair number of tables and charts making the book accessible for both novices and more advanced users alike.

Since there are scant few books out there that are specifically dedicated to IP administration, this book exists as a viable option for system admins and curious readers.

Great for Beginners
Wegner brings a clarity to the topic that I have long been looking for. A great read for those of you who are lost in the maze of TCPIP. Very clear and complete. Great section on routing protocols for beginners. When will Wegner write some more?
