Lots of natural history and photos make this much more than just another kid's animal book. Its about a deer mouse pup adopted by a white-footed mouse family. If your kid likes ecology, nature, and/or mice: buy this!!!

I've picked up a lot of children's books about Monarch Butterflies but this is by far the best. The scientific facts are skillfully woven into the story. The words are almost poetic, and the color illustrations are lifelike and breathtaking. The children will learn what flowers Monarchs are attracted to, how they journey to Mexico, what happens when they get there, and how the circle of life continues as the Monarch's offspring makes its way back north.

This book serves it purpose well as an introduction to the NDE. The book is very well organized and well written. As a writing exercise, I would give this book very high marks.

However, I do have one serious problem with this book. The author goes to great pains to present his material in an objective fashion, but this comes off as nothing more than wishful thinking on his part. These experiences, by their very nature, are utterly subjective, and therefore beyond the scrutiny of science. At the end of the book, the author presents a hypothesis to explain NDE's which I find to be frankly ridiculous. It is a wish based on an assumption which is founded on whimsy. This is not science, this is good karma.

I read this book over ten years ago and have never forgotten it! It gave acounts from so many and made me feel as though I were sitting in on the interview. I have read many books on this subject, but I cant wait to read it again! Now if only I could just find it!

Dr. Ring was my advisor at school (Connecticut) and being ableto see him at work and pick his brain on a regular basis, I can saythat he is greatly underappreciated as a scholar and scientist (albeit a "social" scientist, with all of the stigma that such a title undeservedly carries). Heading Toward Omega and The Omega Project are tremendous contributions to the literature of the Near Death Experience in particular and Consciousness Studies in general. Although the dire predictions of global change in the later chapters of H.T.O. seem a bit goofy from our 1998 vantage point, Ring nevertheless forged new ground with this book that remains, I believe, the best "second" book to read on the subject (after Moody's Life After Life). It is intellectually challenging, thought-provoking, life-affirming and just a darn good read...on every page, no less. High praise, deserved high praise. Not to mention, you'll pick up a few dozen groovy vocabulary words along the way.

If your one of those moms looking for a book to give your 10-12 year old, this is the book. I'm 10 and this is definately one of my favorite books of all time. It's basically a story of a young girl who goes off to live with her uncle who is "totally obsessed" with history. Throughout her stay with her uncle, she "encounters" many characters from history, including: Peaceable Sherwood. This book describes a lot of events during the revolutionary war and makes them come to life. Elizabeth Marie Pope is a great author and I can't wait to read her other book.

When orphaned Peggy Grahame goes to live with her Uncle Enos in the old Grahame ancestral home, the past comes alive. The ghosts of her ancestors come and tell her about their lives in the Revolution, while actual current events mirror those of their pasts.

Barbara Grahame, the most frequent ghostly visitor, is an independent and intelligent young woman living in the American Revolution. Her interaction with the extraordinarily clever British officer, Peaceable Sherwood is very enjoyable to read...particularly as Peaceable is nemesis of Barbara's brother, Dick (a young captain fighting for American independence). At the same time, serving to frame the story, Peggy uncovers mysteries of the past, and is led to her own romance with a young man from England.

A very unusual and thoughtful Revolution story with possibly the best ghosts I've ever read about.

Peggy Grahame is an orphan who is sent to live with her cranky uncle in his old family estate, Rest-and-be-Thankful. She makes one friend on the trip,a British scholar studying in America. But when she gets to Rest-and-be-Thankful, her Uncle Enos says that her friend, Pat, can never enter the house again. Peggy can't figure out why Pat isn't allowed, and she is lonely without any friends. The plot thickens when ghosts from the Revolutionary War start visiting Peggy. She is visited by four ghosts in all, and each time she is visited she learns a new piece of a complicated history of the house.

It is an awesome book, with a happy ending. It is very well written, and you get really close to the characters. It is a little slow at the beginning, and sometimes the plot lags when you get to Peggy. Peggy's story isn't quite that interesting, but the ghosts's stories are great. Also, when you are reading it, keep in mind that this was written in 1958, so some of the ideas are a little outdated. But overall, this was a very interesting read. The Sherwood Ring is written for kids 9-13, but anyone will enjoy this book and want to add it to their collection.

This book is a unique study of a girl growing up in the 'slums' on North London within the sound of Bow Bells. Elizabeth writes of her own upbringing with clarity that you can smell. Her style jumps around from topic to topic and in some cases from decade to decade, but keeps you gripped through the narrative. She is a little full of her own pride as she describes her place in the world of London, but this rests gentle against the backdrop of honest memories. The last chapter is worth the whole book, and leaves the reader looking for the next volume.....

I have enjoyed Ms. Bevarly's other books, but this one seemed to fall a little short. While her other books had the characters interacting, this endeavor failed in that area. We were constantly reading what the characters were thinking and at times it got very repetative. I like to see the main characters do some verbal sparing. I think that reveals more about the character. The ending was a bit too contrived too. Everyone was mad one second and then hunky dory the next. I hope Ms. Bevarly's next offering raises the bar.

Bored at the Wemberly Masque even with four police cars entering the driveway, Lucinda Hollander searches for her beau Archie Conlon. To her surprise, Archie, in his Bozo the Clown wardrobe places a ring on Lucinda's finger. Before she can regain her equilibrium and remove the too small ring, Archie jumps through a window. The police arrest Lucinda for the murder of George Jacobs, though she insists she has never heard of the man. Rather than do the rationale thing and go with the cops, Lucinda jumps through the same window that her fiancé used as his exit.

Lucinda who has never worked in her life disguises herself as Lucy French, obtaining employment as a housekeeper to a wealthy Kentucky family. However, if her poor work habits don't unmask her, her growing feelings for Max "car guy" Hogan will for she is falling in love with the racing car driver.

Readers who enjoy a wild contemporary romantic suspense with the emphasis on laughter will clearly want to read THE RING ON HER FINGER. The story line never takes itself serious even when Lucy finds herself in trouble and on the lam. The secondary characters provide the fullness that enable fans to appreciate the antics of the lead female character and the bewilderment of the prime male hunk who feels as if he was hit by a vehicle at a 100 MPH upon meeting Lucy. Though their relationship takes a secondary seat to humor and the murder subplot, Elizabeth Bevarly provides a fun frolic for fans of the sub-genre.

This book is too big to be useful or take anywhere, it doesn't provide any useful information, and the folders in it for holding pictures or magazine clippings are too small for holding a normal sheet of paper and also too loose to hold anything smaller (they fall right out). I suggest that if you want a binder, buy an empty one to fill yourself, that's what I ended up doing!

I bounght and then returned this book, primarily because although the format (binder etc.) was excellent the content left much to be desired.
The information contained was relatively sparse, and several pages would have had to be xeroxed - for example the 'Guest List' was only one page with space for maybe 16 names.

Instead I bought the 'Easy Wedding Planner, Organizer & Keepsake' (same authors), removed the pages from the spiral binding and put them in my own ringbound folder, so I could punch and add my own paperwork. I would recommend doing the same; even though it takes some time, it's worth it!

I absolutely love this!! I was carrying around 6 different planners until I received this as a gift. It has everything a bride-to-be needs and more!! I highly recommend it, whether you have entered the "bridezilla" stage of your planning or not, it will save you time and many sleep deprived nights!!
